I have dump envy! I would love to see the dump visit. My mum used to complain that dad and i always brought back more than we took to the dump way back when i was a kid. thanks for sharing it brought up lovely memories.
Congratulations on winning such a FUN grant! I've been a fan of your assemblages for quite some time and can't wait to see what comes out of this. I'm just outside of Portland and would love to attend the exhibit. Happy digging!
Cool, I'd love to see a vid of you collecting and scavenging for your materials.Do you just grab or dig through piles and take only what you know you can work with?
Very Cool! Quite jealous :) I saw the bottom green felt keys as grass... and the metal ring as a head and small keys as possible hair :) Love what you came up with! Can't wait to see all your work!! Thanks for sharing!
There is a similar art grant available to artists in San Francisco...Portland has used their "artist gleaning program" as a model. Estate sales are good, too! I particularly like a weekend flea market that we have here in this area...cheap prices!
I plan to make a gleaning video while actually in the "bay" area itself...that area where the trash is off-loaded, etc. I dig through the piles (with leather gloves, hard hat, protective glasses) and take everything that has potential for some of my projects. I also grab stuff that some of the artists might be able to use.
Since you already have the piano piece in the bottom area, I think it would look better to use something different in the upper area. I love your work! Keep it up!
I'll probably leave it as it is at this point, but I may make changes down the road, depending upon the other kinds of "stuff" that I find at the dump. Thanks for your comments.
Do you have any detailed instructions on the method you use to wrap the cigar boxes with ink dyed dictionary paper? Specifically how to wrap the corners.
I wrap the boxes with the dictionary pages...the corners are done rather haphazardly (I like the crude look)...using whatever kind of paste of glue that you like. After that glue has all dried, I then go back and dye the paper with alcohol ink...let it dry, and then I use a small sander on the paper to do my aging. The corners can be heavily sanded, depending upon your preference.
absolutely fabulous project. you will undoubtedly have fun.
Absolutely LOVE your work! Thank you for taking the time to do the videos. Julie

I plan to do an "in the dump" video !!
Neat junk, id put old aged music sheets behind that larger metal piece and old photos on the keys.....
I love your videos! Do you use clear silicone to glue the round metal piece?
Sheree Pechin Yes...the clear silicone is often my glue of choice...it held the heavy metal piece in place.
