Not the Corolla, but the Volvo ex30 will be seriously in the shade here.
The Enyaq IV is the best of the VW sibs, so this should be another winner - & worth waiting for!
I'm sure people will want this in the UK
Yes, Skoda now has a solid market in the UK.
Will they bother making it with right side steering??
Absolutely beautiful. What a great job from VW Group. Love every aspect of this vehicle.
Battery chemistry: sounds like the base model (25K Euros) will have an LFP but the longer range model will be NMC. I'd be looking at the base model anyway so that's fine by me. I don't think we should buy NMC batteries for all the reasons you have outlined before. 166kW motor - a sub 7second 0-100Kms/hr.
Skoda is a trusted brand that makes quality cars.
Chinese and Tesla car sales in Europe will plummet once European carmakers offer competively priced EVs with a full back up service
Nope
We'll see.
"Once" is the keyword here.
Yup. Tesla are doomed long term in EV cars. They will instead sell their technology for OEM.
It has everything I require from a car. Turn signal and wiper stalks. Door handels. A screen by the steering wheel. Large boot. And it look great. I will get one.
And a socking great battery that will ensure your car is unpredictable in the cold and it’s value will plummet whilst the insurance skyrockets. So smart.
@@Hello_there_obi there is no specification for the the battery yet. So how do you know?
@@RonnyJakobsson lol if you really want to play *that* game, by your logic, the electric viking knows nothing 😂
And YOU said it has everything you want...how tf can you say that if you yourself don't know what battery it'll have?
Yes please !!! I'm excited to see how much this car will be when it launches in New Zealand
Sam, nobody is perfect and your work is helpful and very much welcome! I say this so you ignore negative comments and attacks. Thanks for what you do!
The Epiq actually looks better than 90% of the vehicles currently made.
Followed a Model S, and it's beautiful. Licence plate "BLIMEY."😊
Hopefully all countries follow the EU regarding proper buttons and indicator stalks.
id still take a corolla cross anyday lol.
Indeed. As a Brit I'm not normally a fan of EU meddling but this touchscreen nonsense has to stop. It may make more profit for the manufacturers through cheaper build costs but it's truly dangerous IMO.
Interested to see how Tesla reacts to it, goes against the whole design ethos for their interiors.
I hope you're only trolling for fun - because since when the unelected EU bureaucrats should start acting as an engine of progress? That is a doomsday scenario, to leave the industry in the hands of politicians who have no clue.
@@Macmonkey1000 As I understand Tesla has the needed non screen controls to comply.
@@Alarix246in this case they are correct, however
we trust Corollas .. Skoda looks great but the running gear and electrical system has no track record yet .. BYD needs a Skoda design and price ..
They already have if they want.
It looks good. Hopefully charging rates will be good too.
It’s a tiny bit longer than my fully electric 2019 BMW i3, which is a great length for parking and zooming around in the city (or the hwy).
So that'll be £30k by the time we see it, and large boot space.....i must rush out and order one?
Exactly, want the version with a few more extras - that will be £37,000 - cash or card sir.
This is starting to look like nuclear fusion, the 25K EV is always coming next year, every year is the same, next year....
Well the bolt&bolt euv existed at or around even under that price point with rebatez&incentives since around 2020 now.
And the base leaf is available for about that price.
Not to mention a base model 3 sr after all rebates and incentives in certain states last year was as low as 20k. 👍🏻😎
@@4literv6 Well, I'm in Europe, lets check the price of the cheapest Model 3 with incentives, Yeah, 39.990 EURs = 43.335 USD at current rate, no 25k anytime soon. I guess I have to wait for next year once again.
@@pbrighamDacia Spring?
@@miti4045 Starts at 21k EURs with a batterie of 28Kwh, yeah this probably has a 150km range, I'm not that desperate, do you know what gasoline car you can get for 21K? then people don't understand why EVs don't have more adoption? We need a proper EV for 25K and unfortunately those are not here yet.
@@pbrigham Spring was for like 12K in special sale. You can also buy a used EV?
together with the ID2 at the same price, this is getting interesting! Especially when we know battery prices are dropping at least 15% year by year
Looks great, almost a practical small car…then they go and fit a faux transmission tunnel.
If you ain’t Aussie or US, you often have to park in tight spaces and get out of the passenger door. Or it’s raining and you want to chill out in the passenger seat.
Skoda is not exist in many countries, so it can't destroy Corolla.
Looks nice!
When next year ? Beggining . Middle .end ?
I like the look of it and it looks as though it meets one of my main requirements, the boot will take my mobility scooter, something you’re probably dealing with at this time, Sam. I hope you won’t need to for long.
My 20 year old Toyota Yaris Verso continues almost without faults (except minor things linked to the aging of tiny bits of plastic mainly on switches) so my experience of Toyota’s traditional legendary reliability makes me lean emotionally towards them. On the other hand, I know that EVs are a whole new reality and all manufacturers are going to have to earn their reputations with their EVs so my Toyota ICE experience is almost irrelevant.
My needs are 95% city with mobility scooter and/or wheelchair, occasionally with up to three passengers. If it were possible to get insurance in the UK for less than the cost of a Maserati, I would import a Japanese Kei E Van, like the Honda N Van EV, but insurance would cost me almost as much as the car itself.
So I sit and wait as models like the Volvo EX30, Kia EV5 and the Skoda Epiq are announced and start to hit the roads. And I watch to see what insurance might cost. The Epiq looks nice, has a good specification and if it is comfortable, might be what I’m looking for.
I think you’re referring to the Yeti!! Very nice little car, but it doesn’t look large enough to convert to a compact camper like Wheelhome’s conversion on the Vauxhall Combo Life Electric.
In the UK you can buy a brand new, decent spec Skoda Enyaq for £10k less than a Model Y.
Finally VW through one its other brands is aiming to adoption. Looks good 😊, ship to USA please .
I have a Leaf, looking forward to such sized and ranged EV cars coming available.
Toyota is reliable. They have a history for being reliable. That's what youre payin for.
Looks good. A record of good tech support, parts supply, minimal complaints will make sales (or blackeyes will sink reputation). What would really get my attention would be DIY Repair Manuals and instructions for full evaluation of battery and other onboard diagnosis. IMhO: Making it easier for DIYer with electrical and mechanical knowledge would get huge attention, and show the world intent for economical, dependable, and fixable EVs.
Im waiting for the elroq, supposed to come out this year, and it's bigger.
And its got stalks! :)
The boot in this car is only 2/3 the capacity of the baojun cloud which is in a similar size class.
Its 1 thing that the boot is very spacious but how about the leg room at the back and can it fit 3 adults comfortably? Probably not since the length of a Toyota Corolla H/B is 4.37 meters which is 20 cm longer
Beautiful... in the same design trend as the ex30...
VW needs to rebrand this and sell as the Taos model in the U.S. The current Taos model is junk and this could revitalize that platform.
Very cool looking vehicle. A shame it won’t be available in the US.
Car looks great. But never get excited about any prototypes as what you get may well be not what you expect.
It has good ground clearance and short overhang so if they make a 4wd it might be ok in terrain
Again, the Yeti principle. Such a great car.
Only for people who get rid of their cars quickly, my stepdaughter had 2 Corollas over a period of over 45 years & no major repairs & still drives the 2nd one.
5 years from new and a Tesla is worth zero $.
@@Withnail1969who cares what it’s worth , all cars depreciate
@@jasoncarmichael4540 If you are about your finances, you care about what its worth. Some cars depreciate faster than others. For example, according to the Red Book Guide.... a BYD Atto 3 owner who bought brand new in 2022 has burned nearly $22k in depreciation. $11k p.a, gone forever. By way of comparison, a punter in a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has seen virtually no depreciation in market value at all....
@@Withnail1969BS. You’re obviously an ICE car dinosaur.
@@RodneyW Very Good 👍
if such a car comes to US then I would buy that EV. I have a toyota carolla 2018 and when I upgrade I would get this
Dream on. Biden is protecting the UAW, and Trump is protecting us from "foreigners".
Tesla has to do better on the price or they will be crushed.
Tesla is designing the factory to make the car and the car to be made by the factory. It will be less and no dealer markup and you get a FSD ready car No worries.
If they manage to stick to that price, it will still be without any "extras" which are the baseline when you look at brands like Tesla.
3:52 "maybe VW group is going to pull something off here" - hope you're aware that Škoda *IS* the VW group member? Sounds ambiguous.
Hopefully the instrument cluster will be larger 3:32 than an iPhone 4 on its release. Not a fan of the bar steering wheels but other than that if EV’s are your thing it’s a really nice car for the money.
Does anyone know if cars made in Europe can be legally imported to the U.S. if the model
Is not being sold in the US?
Looks quite high off the ground...like that.
With the negative of poorer handling/ride.
Would be nice to see this car next year.
looks similar to citreon ec3 and dacia spring.im waiting for ec3👍
When it is really €25.000, it will be a sales hit in the EU. More an more car companies are bringing good EV's in the price range.
Citroën, Renault, and now Skoda. Those brands deliver for real.
That Epiq is the same size as the Citroën ëC3, and the Citroën is even for sale this month, for sub €25.000 and with an LFP battery and 100kW charging..
But the Citroën has only 320km range where the Skoda has 400km?.
Better than all the bla bla bla that we hear for many years from Tesla. A lot of talk, no walk.
My experience is that the Czech government will tax it heavily out of reach of its citizens. The same cars made in Czech Republic are MUCH cheaper enywhere else, mainly in Germany.
This video makes all North Americans jealous
There's only one way to fight high prices... allow markets to compete.. the ole fashioned supply demand theory. Like housing, you build enough housing you stop investors from parking money in them that causes inflated pricing you allow auto makers to sell anything anywhere .. the consumer benefits
Hope they come to Canada
I hate the use of "destroy" in the title. Emotive, exaggerated and really rather silly. Calling Corolla purchasers "dumb idiots" is equally silly and, frankly, bloody rude. The downright arrogance of those pushing EV's is mind blowing. I'll tell you what's "dumb" and "idiotic" ... buying a car for $27,000 that can only go 250 miles before it needs filling up (weather/temperature permitting). Sometimes you are definitely worth listening to ... this time you weren't!
@@ev.whyking He has to do that. No views no money.
I would reply that anyone buying gasoline then burning it is the dumb one. Sub 10 cent electricity at night is the way to go.
I think skoda might do well in Europe in the EV segment. I suspect 25000 euros for the base model will likely still be expensive. I think the timing of this news is striking in the shadow of the Id2all. Wouldn't be surprised if the underlying platforms will be similar. Only one will be a compact hatchback type and skoda 8s likely aiming for the compact crossover/suv form factor. Designwise, it looks a bit like the new eC3, which comes at a similar price point. I don't think the skoda will beat Trsla by a longshore. I think the narrative would have been better if they had focussed more on what European consumers want in their EV. If the focus is Trsla, to me, it means skoda is trying too hard, which, to me, likely means a less good product on some vital parameters. Perhaps a red flag, maybe.
Ioniq, Lyriq, Epiq... what's next? Titaniq?
😂
It is a clever Škoda language. E at the beginning is electric, Q at the end is an SUV. The three petrol SUVs and ev SUVs are Kamiq, Karoq, Kodiaq; Epiq, Elroq, Enyaq. It is no coincidence that they rhyme. Effectively one syllable of a name conveys the information about the motor or engine, size, and shape, perhaps other traits.
Looking good.
Thank you! Cheers!
It’s BEAUTIFUL!!
Atto 3 size ?
I have a Skoda Enyaq. It would be a Tesla Model Y destroyer is it were sold in more places and more people were told about it. It does not have quite the same raw performance but who cares. Skoda are going to put out very good EVs.
I bought a Model Y last year, and awareness wasn't the reason for not buying an Enyaq. Those would be:
• Delivery times (9 months, I was told)
• Skoda price cuts lagging Tesla's
• Tesla's unsurpassed DC charging
• Tesla's future proof software including FSD.
I acknowledge that the Enyaq probably has a nicer interior and better corrosion resistance, but it wasn't enough to overcome the above reasons. My favourite feature with the Skoda is the option to choose between "B" and "D" mode, where Tesla only has B-mode, aka one-pedal-drive.
DC charging is not what it is made out to be owing to the charging curve. I have had my Enyaq for 15 months and have not yet needed to DC charge. Regarding delivery times that was a positive for me because it enabled me to save up some pennies and buy the car for cash much to the surpride of the dealer! Gooid luchk with Tesla FSD. Not licensed in the UK unlike the Ford Mustang.. @@virtual-viking
An announced price isn't necessarily near the actual price when it becomes available.
In the Netherlands this car will be between 35 and 40.000 euros. Mark my words
2026 = never. Price will be 33k and it will look completely different.
This is just meant to stop people buying a Tesla today…
Skoda Epiq has to compete with Tesla's model 2 next year. Is it a computer model, or does it exist already? 250 miles range for 25 thousand is epic, for a car that looks extremely practical.
At last - an electric Yeti!
Well almost.... The Yeti was well loved, and was - and still is - a popular car. Even used 5 and 6 year old ones are holding their value really well....
@@Brian-om2hh on my second Yeti. And yes about residual value. The Karoq was/is a poor replacement. This eV is what its evolution should look like. Two motors and you have a legend.
Just checked, and the Yeti has 416 L boot space, 1,760 L with back seats down. The Epiq is substantially more spacious (490 litres quoted), yet with a smaller length - 410cm to the Yeti's 422cm. That's an impressive amount of packaging, presumably facilitated by the absence of ICE. This for me is the exciting trend towards smaller EV's, now the SUV markup ploy of the majors has been busted. Transport based on transport needs, not 'aspirational ownership' like we have in the UK.
What we need is for many brands to license Tesla's Software including FSD and Supercharging integration so we can have real choice. That would make the Skoda Epiq a car I'd like to own. Looks great, the kind of car size I'd like to have as opposed to my Tesla Model 3 that I find a bit too big.
Corolla is unbeatable. My 2005 corolla has 300,000 miles.
the Chevy bolt EUV is about the same price , cargo space and 12 in longer, more range cheaper than a base Corolla after tax credit
This is a SUBcompact. The Corolla is a compact. Looking at the 2010 Toyota Matrix (similar style), about 3 extra cubic feet of cargo space and about 150 extra miles range. You're comparing an electric matchbox to a usable, RELIABLE car.
Didn't the Tesla Model Y electric SUV surpass the Toyota Corolla in sales already?
Ha!.... Not even in the same solar system.......!!!
Corollas are the standard hire company buy? Mention "Tesla" in an article or press release is just the now a common click bait technique. Here in NZ Tesla's are the best value as every other dealer in NZ puts huge markups on EVs while Tesla's are about the $NZ/USA exchange rate.
This little Skoda has come from the dear old Skoda Yeti estate car, which was actually the estate version of the Fabia!!
Pseudo-SUV more like.
It looks good.
Ha ha .
Some people buy Toyotas for priven reliability and service.
Skoda Epic looks awesome .VW group vehicles have solid build quality -but buyer beware -VW group drive train reliability and customer abandonment.
Look like the Jeep Compass/Patriot. If it has 7 vertical slots, VW might get sued by Stellantis for copying
Or Rivian
~$7 usd to go 300 miles vs $30 in a Corolla ........if you drive a lot this car will likely save you a lot of money
But you spent $40k on solar panels. So where is the savings.
@@markmiller8903 You can get 6kw of panels for 1k USD and get 9kw brand new for $2250. For 40k in panels you get 159kw and with say a modest 4 hours of sunlight a day make 637kw. Unless you have a 100,000 sqft house and a fleet of BEV you can get setup for 5k total with inverter, panels, and battery and install. It will pay for itself in a very very short time at the rates in most parts of the country.
For me,
1) I can get a new Toyota Corolla for a lot less than 25K
2) The Corolla really exists
3) I can recharge a Corolla in 4 minutes
4) Toyota quality is famous and dealerships exist to get it serviced (in the U.S.A)
5) I don't know the battery chemistry or the charging speed of this.
6) Corollas depreciate at a tiny rate and sometimes go up.
You can only fuel a Corolla in 4 minutes as long as there is fuel to put in it. That may not always be the case as the years roll by. Shell have begun a programme of closing filling stations Worldwide. Around 1000 are to go in the first phase.....
@@reginald7214 Teah, to me, if Toyota is building a true EV, AND THAT IS A BIG IF, then they are playing it right. Why build EVs that make no money for them. They could wait till they have giga presses, vertical integration, top batteries, and do it right, making a car that makes money for them.
@@Brian-om2hhYes, and more and more cars offer reverse power where someone can just help you out and charge you up. In the future, it will be ICE which is harder to "charge".
If it's built in Spain (i.e. NOT China) I'm all in.
I think this Epiq will sell like hot cakes.
Is it coming to the US?
I was looking up Honda Accords for my granddaughter and saw a 2001 Honda Accord that had 415,000 miles on it and they were selling it.
Great Looking CARS will sell well in Europe
They'd sell well in North America, if they ever come.
Why do so many people buy Toyota Corollas? Simply: Reputation for reliability from car magazines as well as actual customers. In order to win over Toyota fans Skoda and in fact all EV brands will have to do a huge amount of work to get to Toyota's level of workmanship and reliability. They can do it, but we are still in the infancy of the EV revolution so it may still take a decade or so more.
Skoda Epic = BYD Dolphin's Clone 😁🙊🙈🙀
Ultra slim climate vents are NOT a positive - especially for extremely hot or cold climates. BYD understand this.
My Enyaq is a great car - The VAG software however; absolute garbage! So is the old school legacy policy of trying to charge for switching on already fitted upgrades that should be included on a car of its price like auto dipping lights! Oh yeah, and not upgrading the software of the 60kWh model to the latest level or V2X capability. Its better looking IMO, but Its going to be Tesla next for me at this price.
Here we go again with this guys never ending hatred of Toyota
I can’t wait until they make a 15000 dollar SUV that charges in 3 minutes and has a range of 350 miles. Oh sorry, my Kia does that already.
When is somebody going to make a cheap electric MPV that seats 5 people comfortably?
why tesla doesn't come up with one in the same price range?
It is not about the price, the question is how reliable is it and how long will it last? Maybe the Corolla buyer isn't necessarily and idiot.
I assume it's just another ID platform car from VW. As always, that €25,000 headline will buy the version that is deliberately shit to upsell people to the one costing 5k more. Anyhow, Toyota Corollas are about €35,000 and this car looks more likely to compete with the Yaris / Yaris Cross.
Can you always find out if each car you review will have vehicle to load, home and grid capability.
I for one will not be buying any EV without this feature.
😂😂🤣🤣Let´s see after two years. Corolla 500 000 and Skoda Epic 50 000. So epic !
Im getting the Skoda and Scout confused.
Tesla is the best car company ever! No gas stations, No oil changes, No smog check, No corrupt dealership, No catalytic converter and fast as fuck!
Is it 25k $ or 💶 🇪🇺
This is exactly what we need - smallish EV’s with good range at a cheaper price. Tesla Model 2 will change everything in this market sector, so other makers are getting their announcements in early, even if they won’t be here for 2 years in reality.
Towing?
Climate change sucks. We're the same temperature as always. Cold. Snow.
Look at the globe.
Tesla had better bring out their Model 2 PDQ.
Reuters reported Tesla is eying a June 2025 kickoff for production of a new mass-market compact crossover. No dealer markups. Which car do you think will sell better?
@@danharold3087 Hi Dan, let’s see. Tesla haven’t always met their announced dates for bringing new products to market and they are looking increasingly late to this particular party. Margins will be much smaller than on their current models and if they don’t compromise on lack of buttons and stalks they are going to be awarded lower safety ratings. I’m sure it will sell well though, just on the strength of the brand.
@@philiptaylor7902 We really need some unbiased scientific testing on the controls issue. Tesla knows how to build with or w/o stalks. Perhaps what we need is choice.
As far as I know Tesla has not provided a date to be missed. It is far more important for Tesla to deliver a Tesla at this price point, or below, than it is to meet a date or be first. CyberTruck sales will prove or disprove this. So far it is looking good considering they are still selling the $20K over founder edition. I expect that to end soon.
However there looks to be a lot new in this car as was the CT. One part chassi casting. Another non steel body. Zonal construction. etc. Tesla could trip on any of these.
Do we really care how long a car lasts. After 7 years you cannot get any money for a car.
if you have a corolla, you can drive it for 20 years without a payment.
