It sickens me how disabled people are harassed at church for not having jobs or for taking medicine. I can't wait for Jesus to return and judge these false prophets.
@David Anewman I could work but there is no way for me to earn ENOUGH based on my actual abilities. I'd end up homeless etc. And I feel since the kind of work ANYONE can do is so undervalued this leads to the "disabled" sometimes having to NOT work just to have enough to meet basic needs. Because there is no real supplemental support. SSI will remove its supports as soon as you make minimum wage, which is many times all a mentally disabled person can aspire to--IF the employer will still kinda consider the persons limitations, WHICH they usually don't since a plethora of Non disabled people are clamoring for those jobs at the same time. So for me, the issue is to consider the need to raise the minimum wage for ALL to protect those who can not compete with those of higher cognitive ability to earn a livable wage. Then maybe more of those at a lower cognitive level can join the workforce and participate Of course I am still not talking about those with an IQ of under 65 or so.
I'm kind of new to going to churches, so I have yet to witness such a situation. Can someone give me an example of such a story? Them being harassed sounds so antithetical to what unconditional love Jesus is supposed to represent? Is it because people are judging that these people must have done something wrong? Like how Job's friends were judgmental to him?
“You undermine the possibility of loving in spite of poverty...and affliction” The amount of times that we face this dilemma is very telling of the imbalance, the misconception of the gospel of truth, of Christ and indeed the suffering of Christ, in which we as Christians are meant to share in. I do believe that God’s mercy and kindness will serve to redirect all who have been duped into this false understanding and by His grace, our joy will be made whole again and again regardless of our circumstances. Just like Paul said, I have been rich and I have been poor - yet his love for Christ never wavered because it was never centred around him being endowed with riches. Material wealth has its place, and intrinsically its place is for the edification of the kingdom of heaven and not our egos as temporary earthly beings. Shalom 🙏🏽
I just want to share how encouraged I am by this video. I love how Pastor John looks into the camera and leans in while speaking. It's as if he is right there in the room with whoever is watching the video. You can see the love and care of Jesus through Him. Here in Colombia, South America my husband and I feel so alone sometimes and the only churches within 50 or more miles all preach the prosperity gospel. We are not official missionaries but we want to reach these people for Jesus...they are truly poor, for being poor spiritually is much worse than being poor financially.

Our focus has shifted from holiness and sanctification to wealth. Our intimacy with the Lord is measured by the no of jets or the size of our mansions. This is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus and the apostles concentrated on spreading the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven, healing and caring for the needy. So I’ve determined there is a better prosperity gospel that actually works. Take the 10% tithe, put it in savings instead, use another 5% towards accountable secular charities where the money actually gets to the needs instead of bloated church building funds and paying salaries of hucksters. Compound interest is the true miracle.

It seems like we are all on the same team and some people believe this and some people believe that and some are going to hell and some are going to heaven. Is is really that hard? God sent his son to show us the way. Pretty simple. Did he say "go around wringing your hands and try to be perfect?" No. He said that He loves us. If God loves you and God loves me, then who has the more perfect love? you, or me? God is love and God loves us all. Whether we say "prosperity" or "paucity" or "love" or "hate". His love is surrounding it all.
The church I attend to is called "the great comission", and ironically the gospel it preaches is the prosperity gospel. You should give because money is seeds and you reap what you sow, you shouldn't take medicine because faith heals you (I remember I was healed of a strong headache and sight problems I face from time to time, and it was the first time I got healed without medicine was by praying, so idk if this is actually a false teaching), you should think positively and the funkiest one: don't ask people how they are, proclaim victory out of your mouth. Because of the continuous emphasis on the material blessings God gives, my mom had started feeling depressed because she felt stuck that no matter what she did she wouldnt get wealthier and was wondering how bad people can be rich but she wouldn't. It's funny, over a year attending to this church and she didn't know how to deal with depression because the church spent so many services explaining how to give to receive wealth, and not once to deal with the lows of life. I feel bad for some of my brothers in this church because some are so humble, but they've been blinded by the wolf that is the leading pastor and his false and hypocritical teachings, that they have lost focus from God Himself, and focus only on the material blessings he can give.

As you appear to make an assumption, even a judgement, that I follow the prosperity gospel, I don't...I never have and am not tempted to.. But those who judge according to appearance are judging after the flesh. Trying to build theology after things they are seeing with their natural eye when they don't even know that person... The Gospel of the GRACE of God... that's exactly it. The prosperity gospel denies grace, it suggests the poor and sick brought it upon themselves which is contrary to the teaching and example,e of Christ.

I read an article, I think it was titled "Poverty of the Prosperity Gospel" 3 years ago and that was when I got to know about John Piper and I have always looked out for his articles. This message is so crucial now, with notable Ministers like Benny Hinn now seemingly saying the same thing and how he has been attacked and misinterpreted by Mike Murdock and others like Bishop George Bloomer.
I would like too add something also. What when you value money over justice honesty and integrity When what you have is more important than how you treat people. You have lost the true essence of the gospel.
I have suffered because I had no ambition to acquire money and I gave too much away. I always buy things for others when I have nothing. So if you want to bless me cashapp me $tutsirai I will not spend a dime of what you give... I will invest all of it and earn interest on it. When the interest pays I will give 25% to Gods people and I will reinvest 75% to ensure compound growth so my work for the lord never stops. This I promise I will do.
I allow myself to ask: how do you help: collect clothing and food and distribute it to the homeless? Drive the older members of your community to the store and the doctor? Read your blind neighbour the newspaper? Or do you give money? How is that money used? We have the right to know ( and duty to ask ) , what happens to the money we give.
Jesus said that we ask anything in his name and it will be given, so that our joy may be full. Obviously, Jesus wants us to be happy. But it you ask those things for your own selfish life and motives then you are wrong. He will still give it if you ask in faith for the sake of his promise. But it will lead you into a great temptation.
What a fantastic explanation of the corruption of the prosperity stuff. I'm a Roman Catholic from Ireland, seeing this conflict in the U.S. as a visitor. Mr Piper is erudite, charismatic and respectful. I sought one video here to explain this "prosperity" stuff, and Mr Piper aced it. As poor as a church mouse is a saying that people remember. Poverty is a curse as in Deuteronomy 28:15. We have to rightly divide the word of truth. .2 Timothy 2:15 .Getting the balance right. God will bless the works of our hands because God is a good God and He never changes. Love of money is the root of all evil. But money is needed for living.As Gods children in his family we have to act as a family towards each member of the family. We are blessed with every spiritual blessings and learn to be content with our abundance. The prosperity gospel that is preached is only serving the preachers that are preaching it. But in truth we are rich in Christ Jesus. The man doing drugs is no longer doing drugs because Jesus has redeemed him from every curse Galatians 3:13. So now the money now in spent on his family instead of drugs,drink,smoking and obesity. We have better health because of our new life in Christ Jesus.
Re. point 1. One's undying desire and hunger for God doesn't negate the basic reality that money is in fact needed to buy food, sustain one's life, pay bills and so forth. Re. Point 2. Suffering in that context doesn't mean that we are to enjoy poverty. Are we not supposed to seek to better ourselves or to seek to be financial well-off or; is being well-off a curse or bad thing? Even those that are financial well-off in Christ may still stuffer in many aways that may not have anything to do with their finances or health. Re. point 3. And my final address as theses point are all weak. You can still be well off and spread the gospel in the highways and the byways. Money doesn't prevent one from sharing the gospel or from keeping Christ as their center however, it can help in spreading the gospel and even extend it further in some seriously tangible ways. Paul saying that he counts his life of no value, didn't mean he was broke either. Lastly, if a Christian had a million dollars and decided to zero his bank account to spread the gospel as far and as effectively as he could, what would be the results of that? Well, I can say that that he jolly well may have stored for himself great riches in heaven, but Jesus even said that this sacrifice would given back to him, pressed down, shaken together and running over, would be poured back into his lap! Let's not fear being blessed in the area of wealth and pray for wisdom and discipline on how to manage money so as to be a blessing to others whilst seeking deeper levels of intimacy with Christ.
And one other thing if all that really mattered in this life was God knowing him and having a relationship with him rich or poor would be irrelevant in this life ,But we know through scripture its not that way because they obsess about rich and poor non stop. So i am sorry but this life very sadly does come down to having money as far as the quality of life you will have and opens up more doors in life for you,
I like to point out to people that the term "the great commission" does *not* occur anywhere in Scripture. It does not even appear in the section headings Steven Langton introduced into the Vulgate. This strongly suggests that the term is not Biblical at all. But as for the "five ways": there is an even more direct way to show the Prosperity Gospel is not a Christian Gospel at all: In Mat 25:31-46, Christ *clearly* identifies with the poor and humble, *not* the rich who, if they fail at almsgiving go straight into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!

I want to hear this guy's testimony on how he suffered and got persecuted and how poor he is. These people who are against what they call "Prosperity Gospel" always want others to suffer, and stay poor and be persecuted. But not they or their family themselves. I want to hear this guy tell his kids, if he has kids, my son-my daughter, God wants you to suffer and be sick all the time and be poor for His name sake..In Jesus name. Those of you who are against what you called "Prosperity Gospel" would tell that to your kids? Hogwash. No you would not. You want the best for your kids. So don't be a hypocrite and be honest with yourselves. There is no "prosperity gospel"..the only gospel is the "Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross"...Jesus Christ is the Gospel. But wherever the Gospel went..prosperity followed, healing existed, and overcoming sin reigned. So, don't be a hypocrite and judge Christian believers who desire that for themselves.
I think the point is that it doesnt matter. You are complete in Him Who gives you strength. He has a good plan for you. His love and blessings aren't always the ones we see as a blessings and good life. He had a good plan for Pauls life: and Paul suffered a lot, he had miracles and he had sorrow. But he didn't care any of that, he kept his eyes on the price and the price is Jesus Himself and the treasure was gospel and that was all he cared about. And that is our goal too. If you are reading Bible / searching for teachings, trying to justify yourself a life with health and wealth, you are missing the Christ. God heals, He wants us to ask. But Bible really clears out that it has to be His will and our motives has to be right. There are many of believers who look out only to be healed cause someone told them that it's always Gods plan to heal. And they really do have faith but they don't get better. Being healthy becomes their main goal and they get lost. They being told that it is their lack of faith. That hurts people. Bible says that faith isn't the only needed "power" to get answers. But God wants you to trust Him. What if Paul lost his focus while his journey and when facing bad things as a result of preaching gospel? He trusted Lord. Lord didn't heal him when he prayed for his troubles with his body. God gave Him answer: He is all Paul needs. And Paul settled with that.
Prosperity is a good doctrine and I love it. I don't have to be poor to justify my humility in Christ. Prosperity is one of the things promised to us by God and every Christian is entitled to it. I also believe that even though it's very biblical it's half of the truth. There are many other things expected of us like Losing, dying, sacrificing and suffering. Read your Bible guys. Don't let anyone tell you that Prosperity is a bad thing. It's clearly not. Ask these anti-prosperity preachers how much they earn from their ministries and also where they live. The Blessings of the Lord maketh rich and adds no sorrow.
but prosperity gospel is not the true gospel, why does God continue to bless these pastors and churches with wealth, riches, private jets and enlarged ministries? while the so called true believers are blessed with suffering, persecution and maybe very short lives? how can we be sure which is the true gospel? fieldday07 I’ve had the same thought, I don’t understand how they still are reaping what they are preaching but I’ve realised they have a lot of criteria for “prospering well” too.
The sad truth is that because people love to hear them. They are being told that if they give, God would bless them more. So of course they receive lot of donations, their books are being sold because the books are basically teaching how to use God for getting healthy and wealthy. It is good sell. How does many of non christian become wealthy and have a good life? They don't even have God in their lifes (speaking of non christians) Look at Pauls, Peters life in Bible. All the apostoles. They did suffer a lot. They died "early" cause they were killed. Early church had great joy in Christ but they were also killed because of faith. They did suffer a lot. They had everything in Christ and God did provide them. Not in the modern way, but in Gods way.
Prosperity is Gods will! So John endorses poverty and suffering. What is his yearly salary net worth and asset allocation and the value of his property portfolio?. I heard he is a multi millionaire.
Christ died so we should not concern ourselves with sin if so, that’s saying he died in vain, and the Bible said nothing about choosing prosperity means ur not choosing God.. God is already in us and he wants us to prosper... and nobody has to live in poverty to prove their love for God... the hermetic principles (universal laws) will always work no matter what.. Jesus was the name of a slave ship and that book isn’t the book that was written for Gods people.. it was written to make the oppressors feel they have patriarchal power over the slaves and women as if no one was equal or loved by God but them.. some folks are plain ignorant..Constantly speaking of how we are made in the image of God when he was not talking about humans at all. He spoke of spirits first and humans later when he needed someone to til the ground. Only the ignorant that never researched for themselves believes Jesus is the only way to God or that he was God... he only activated the God in himself like the rest of the world that’s able to seek our Godhead and activate by discipleship (discipline) 12 faculties... all just hidden mysteries that’s quite easy to decode if chosen by the true living God... @David Anewman I could work but there is no way for me to earn ENOUGH based on my actual abilities. I'd end up homeless etc. And I feel since the kind of work ANYONE can do is so undervalued this leads to the "disabled" sometimes having to NOT work just to have enough to meet basic needs. Because there is no real supplemental support. SSI will remove its supports as soon as you make minimum wage, which is many times all a mentally disabled person can aspire to--IF the employer will still kinda consider the persons limitations, WHICH they usually don't since a plethora of Non disabled people are clamoring for those jobs at the same time. So for me, the issue is to consider the need to raise the minimum wage for ALL to protect those who can not compete with those of higher cognitive ability to earn a livable wage. Then maybe more of those at a lower cognitive level can join the workforce and participate Of course I am still not talking about those with an IQ of under 65 or so.
I'm kind of new to going to churches, so I have yet to witness such a situation. Can someone give me an example of such a story? Them being harassed sounds so antithetical to what unconditional love Jesus is supposed to represent? Is it because people are judging that these people must have done something wrong? The amount of times that we face this dilemma is very telling of the imbalance, the misconception of the gospel of truth, of Christ and indeed the suffering of Christ, in which we as Christians are meant to share in.
I do believe that God’s mercy and kindness will serve to redirect all who have been duped into this false understanding and by His grace, our joy will be made whole again and again regardless of our circumstances. Just like Paul said, I have been rich and I have been poor - yet his love for Christ never wavered because it was never centred around him being endowed with riches. Material wealth has its place, and intrinsically its place is for the edification of the kingdom of heaven and not our egos as temporary earthly beings.

I just want to share how encouraged I am by this video. I love how Pastor John looks into the camera and leans in while speaking. It's as if he is right there in the room with whoever is watching the video. You can see the love and care of Jesus through Him. Here in Colombia, South America my husband and I feel so alone sometimes and the only churches within 50 or more miles all preach the prosperity gospel. We are not official missionaries but we want to reach these people for Jesus...they are truly poor, for being poor spiritually is much worse than being poor financially.
I pray God uses you and your husband for His purposes and liberates the people of Colombia where you reside.

Our focus has shifted from holiness and sanctification to wealth. Our intimacy with the Lord is measured by the no of jets or the size of our mansions. This is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So I’ve determined there is a better prosperity gospel that actually works. Take the 10% tithe, put it in savings instead, use another 5% towards accountable secular charities where the money actually gets to the needs instead of bloated church building funds and paying salaries of hucksters. It seems like we are all on the same team and some people believe this and some people believe that and some are going to hell and some are going to heaven. Is is really that hard? God sent his son to show us the way. Pretty simple. Did he say "go around wringing your hands and try to be perfect?" No. He said that He loves us. If God loves you and God loves me, then who has the more perfect love? you, or me? God is love and God loves us all. Whether we say "prosperity" or "paucity" or "love" or "hate". His love is surrounding it all.

The church I attend to is called "the great comission", and ironically the gospel it preaches is the prosperity gospel. You should give because money is seeds and you reap what you sow, you shouldn't take medicine because faith heals you (I remember I was healed of a strong headache and sight problems I face from time to time, and it was the first time I got healed without medicine was by praying, so idk if this is actually a false teaching), you should think positively and the funkiest one: don't ask people how they are, proclaim victory out of your mouth. Because of the continuous emphasis on the material blessings God gives, my mom had started feeling depressed because she felt stuck that no matter what she did she wouldnt get wealthier and was wondering how bad people can be rich but she wouldn't. It's funny, over a year attending to this church and she didn't know how to deal with depression because the church spent so many services explaining how to give to receive wealth, and not once to deal with the lows of life. I feel bad for some of my brothers in this church because some are so humble, but they've been blinded by the wolf that is the leading pastor and his false and hypocritical teachings, that they have lost focus from God Himself, and focus only on the material blessings he can give.

But those who judge according to appearance are judging after the flesh. Trying to build theology after things they are seeing with their natural eye when they don't even know that person... I read an article, I think it was titled "Poverty of the Prosperity Gospel" 3 years ago and that was when I got to know about John Piper and I have always looked out for his articles.
This message is so crucial now, with notable Ministers like Benny Hinn now seemingly saying the same thing and how he has been attacked and misinterpreted by Mike Murdock and others like Bishop George Bloomer.

As poor as a church mouse is a saying that people remember. Poverty is a curse as in Deuteronomy 28:15. We have to rightly divide the word of truth. .2 Timothy 2:15 .Getting the balance right. God will bless the works of our hands because God is a good God and He never changes. Love of money is the root of all evil. But money is needed for living.As Gods children in his family we have to act as a family towards each member of the family. We are blessed with every spiritual blessings and learn to be content with our abundance. The prosperity gospel that is preached is only serving the preachers that are preaching it. But in truth we are rich in Christ Jesus. The man doing drugs is no longer doing drugs because Jesus has redeemed him from every curse Galatians 3:13. So now the money now in spent on his family instead of drugs,drink,smoking and
obesity. We have better health because of our new life in Christ Jesus.
Re. point 1. One's undying desire and hunger for God doesn't negate the basic reality that money is in fact needed to buy food, sustain one's life, pay bills and so forth.
Re. Point 2. Suffering in that context doesn't mean that we are to enjoy poverty. Are we not supposed to seek to better ourselves or to seek to be financial well-off or; is being well-off a curse or bad thing? Even those that are financial well-off in Christ may still stuffer in many aways that may not have anything to do with their finances or health.
Re. point 3. And my final address as theses point are all weak. You can still be well off and spread the gospel in the highways and the byways. Money doesn't prevent one from sharing the gospel or from keeping Christ as their center however, it can help in spreading the gospel and even extend it further in some seriously tangible ways. Paul saying that he counts his life of no value, didn't mean he was broke either.
Lastly, if a Christian had a million dollars and decided to zero his bank account to spread the gospel as far and as effectively as he could, what would be the results of that? Well, I can say that that he jolly well may have stored for himself great riches in heaven, but Jesus even said that this sacrifice would given back to him, pressed down, shaken together and running over, would be poured back into his lap! I like to point out to people that the term "the great commission" does *not* occur anywhere in Scripture. It does not even appear in the section headings Steven Langton introduced into the Vulgate. This strongly suggests that the term is not Biblical at all.
But as for the "five ways": there is an even more direct way to show the Prosperity Gospel is not a Christian Gospel at all: In Mat 25:31-46, Christ *clearly* identifies with the poor and humble, *not* the rich who, if they fail at almsgiving go straight into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!

I want to hear this guy's testimony on how he suffered and got persecuted and how poor he is. These people who are against what they call "Prosperity Gospel" always want others to suffer, and stay poor and be persecuted. But not they or their family themselves. I want to hear this guy tell his kids, if he has kids, my son-my daughter, God wants you to suffer and be sick all the time and be poor for His name sake..In Jesus name. Those of you who are against what you called "Prosperity Gospel" would tell that to your kids? Hogwash. No you would not. You want the best for your kids. So don't be a hypocrite and be honest with yourselves. There is no "prosperity gospel"..the only gospel is the "Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross"...Jesus Christ is the Gospel. But wherever the Gospel went..prosperity followed, healing existed, and overcoming sin reigned. So, don't be a hypocrite and judge Christian believers who desire that for themselves.
I think the point is that it doesnt matter. You are complete in Him Who gives you strength. He has a good plan for you. His love and blessings aren't always the ones we see as a blessings and good life. He had a good plan for Pauls life: and Paul suffered a lot, he had miracles and he had sorrow. But he didn't care any of that, he kept his eyes on the price and the price is Jesus Himself and the treasure was gospel and that was all he cared about. And that is our goal too. If you are reading Bible / searching for teachings, trying to justify yourself a life with health and wealth, you are missing the Christ. God heals, He wants us to ask. But Bible really clears out that it has to be His will and our motives has to be right. There are many of believers who look out only to be healed cause someone told them that it's always Gods plan to heal. And they really do have faith but they don't get better. Being healthy becomes their main goal and they get lost. They being told that it is their lack of faith. That hurts people. Bible says that faith isn't the only needed "power" to get answers. But God wants you to trust Him. What if Paul lost his focus while his journey and when facing bad things as a result of preaching gospel? He trusted Lord. Lord didn't heal him when he prayed for his troubles with his body. God gave Him answer: He is all Paul needs. And Paul settled with that.

Prosperity is a good doctrine and I love it. I don't have to be poor to justify my humility in Christ. Prosperity is one of the things promised to us by God and every Christian is entitled to it. I also believe that even though it's very biblical it's half of the truth. There are many other things expected of us like Losing, dying, sacrificing and suffering. Read your Bible guys. Don't let anyone tell you that Prosperity is a bad thing. It's clearly not. Ask these anti-prosperity preachers how much they earn from their ministries and also where they live. The Blessings of the Lord maketh rich and adds no sorrow.

The sad truth is that because people love to hear them. They are being told that if they give, God would bless them more. So of course they receive lot of donations, their books are being sold because the books are basically teaching how to use God for getting healthy and wealthy. It is good sell. How does many of non christian become wealthy and have a good life? They don't even have God in their lifes (speaking of non christians)
Look at Pauls, Peters life in Bible. All the apostoles. They did suffer a lot. They died "early" cause they were killed. Early church had great joy in Christ but they were also killed because of faith. They did suffer a lot. They had everything in Christ and God did provide them. Not in the modern way, but in Gods way.

Christ died so we should not concern ourselves with sin if so, that’s saying he died in vain, and the Bible said nothing about choosing prosperity means ur not choosing God.. God is already in us and he wants us to prosper... and nobody has to live in poverty to prove their love for God... the hermetic principles (universal laws) will always work no matter what.. Jesus was the name of a slave ship and that book isn’t the book that was written for Gods people.. it was written to make the oppressors feel they have patriarchal power over the slaves and women as if no one was equal or loved by God but them.. some folks are plain ignorant..Constantly speaking of how we are made in the image of God when he was not talking about humans at all. He spoke of spirits first and humans later when he needed someone to til the ground.
