All I have to say is thanks god i live in San Francisco, where apartments are as expensive but you get old world charms-hardwood floors, crown moldings, massive walk-in closets and quite often spectacular views. NYC is a great place with amazing culture and life, but for the price the apartments suck.

I don’t understand people willing to spend $2K+ to live with roommates in a non-luxury place. There are plenty of sub-$3K studios in older buildings. None of these offer larger kitchens or living spaces that would make living in a shard space worth it.

Exactly this. I live with my partner in a studio for under $2700 in an old walk-up and it honestly is really nice. Honestly, I think the older buildings are nicer since they give a more traditional New York feel that these luxury buildings lack, especially the furnishing, molding, masonry, and quiet.

The salaries must be pretty high to afford these ridiculous high prices. Rents thru out the country has gone thru the roof. That’s why we have so many homeless people/families. Something has got to give sooner than later.

For me, while having a washer/dryer in the unit is wonderful, the difference between having laundry in the building vs having to schlep it to an outside laundromat is enormous. I would definitely rate in-building laundry higher than none at all.

You work for 40yrs to have $1M in your retirement, meanwhile some people are putting just $10K in crypto from just few months ago and now they are multimillionaires..

With so many employers now allowing staff to work remotely, I don't know why anyone would pay these prices for rental properties. At $5k/month, you would pay over $60k a year just for rent. In order to even qualify for the unit, your household income would have to be $200k or more. I recently moved back to Chicago, where the real estate is not yet that expensive. If I ever returned to NYC, I would avoid Manhattan and look at either Brooklyn, Queens or even Jersey City as places where you could get more value for the money. Roosevelt Island is technically Manhattan, but once you get off the mother ship, the rents are substantially cheaper. It's shocking to think that even a studio in Gramercy would go for $4300/month without even in-unit laundry.

Based on rent price, this requires 40X salary meaning you need $200k+ salary to even qualify. So yea, not for poor people lol. Crazy.

The third place at 21st and 2nd Ave was ok. I liked the updates compared to the unit on the lower floor. But a 6th floor walk up is brutal. Great reviews!

You neglected to mention that the A/C units were installed at the top of the windows in the one apartment. How are the tenants supposed to easily turn the units on & off unless they’re 6” feet tall?

Good grief! Who can afford this kind of rent? We live in California and don’t pay half what these are.

As someone I met recently said, “Good gravy!” These places are really something else! Not in a good way!
I like the juxtaposition of the brick wall inside the apartment and the brick wall immediately outside the window! At least it’s a great neighborhood with a real neighborhood vibe. At least that’s how I remember it.
