Tony, thank you for exposing yourself in this format, and being who you are [ beautiful soul ) Your powerful vibe is inspiring to me and I feel the same way about this wonderful fellowship.
I met Tony Hopkins at the World Convention of San Diego in 1995. I was in a room of hundreds and felt alone. Then Tony approached and introduced himself. I felt at home once again. Saturday I celebrated twenty eight years sober.
Being an academy award winner and in the limelight I wouldn’t have thought someone would allow this to be on UA-cam but then I thought how many people he could help to achieve sobriety. What a great AA message !! My last drink was Christmas of 2010 and am so grateful that I am a member. Thanks Tony, I hope someday I meet you at a meeting.
Good job David. 2 suggestions that have worked well for me. Stay connected, via zoom meetings (for now), phone calls and the book, daily. I have found the #1 reason for people going out is drifting away from the herd. They stopped going to meetings. I've heard it many times from those who come back with arrows in their ass. Your mind will start telling you it's ok to drink. And secondly, there is nothing going on in your life that a drink will fix. Most likely it will make it worse. Good luck my brother..

It's been way too long since I have been at a meeting. After 27 years of sobriety, I find that I forget how important these meetings are. I have always been a fan of Mr. Hopkins, and I am so grateful that he spoke at that this meeting. His humility is inspiring in itself! He's one of the biggest film stars in the world and he opens himself up to strangers. It's easy to imagine how many people in HIS position with EXACTLY his problem would never dream of standing in front of their "lessers" and saying "I'm not a Hollywood star, I'm an EFFing drunk just like all of you!" That takes courage a lot of people don't have.
My dearest Mr. Hopkins, I have been your fan all my life. This is my first time listening to an AA speech. I'm yet to attend a meeting. You're better than I could have imagined, really entertaining and inspiring.

Thank you so much Mr. Hopkins, you broke your anonymity and that is yours to do. It has helped a lot of people. When I came in around 1983 Betty Ford and Joan Kennedy showed me the way up in Dallas, Texas. If those two women could admit they had a drinking problem then maybe I could too. Thank you for helping me keep sober today. FYI IN the spirit of the big book...if you are out of town and need a GOOD MEETING. I HAD A RESENTMENT AT A SHIT MEETING AFTER A RELAPSE AND I DIDNT WANT TO DRINK. WELL I DIDNT. I GOT ONLINE AND I HAD MY MEETING. THANK YOU TO MY HIGHER POWER FOR KEEPING ME SOBER TODAY. AT LEAST FOR THIS MINUTE. LOVE YOU ALL
"Allergy of the body and obsession of the mind" is the first thing that really stuck with me in the early days of sobriety. It is something from AA that applies to so many things in this world; alcohol, drugs, sex, porn, etc and no matter how much we consume, its never enough.
Found AA things on UA-cam as we trudge our roads to happy destiny amid COVID happenings globally. I am so grateful to be a sober 18 Year member. A Brit living in CA since 1981 and so glad I discovered AA on UA-cam. A meeting a day keeps the alcohol away!
This is absolutely awesome and a special treat indeed! I just celebrated 8 years thank you so much AA and Anthony!! Definitely joining on Facebook !wow!! 👏❤️👏👏❤️
Wow. I thought I would have nothing in common with him when he said he only drank for 15 years but like with so many great AA speakers I heard years ago, he has told a lot of my story. I'm at home and yet I can smell that AA coffee. My last meeting was in Phoenix several years ago. I had a great home group for 5 years in Portland, Or but divorce, moving to another state, back surgery, and becoming an empty nester was too much for me to bear. Now it seems my extended family and friends keep dying , my 30 year career has been killed by Covid, I'm still quarantining almost a year later, and two days ago my boyfriend of 5 years has finally moved out. I heard that loud voice once on 8-17-05 and had I stuck with it, I would now have over 15 years. I love that there are meetings online because I didn't like the meetings here in Phoenix mainly because people don't get called on to share, they just share. And share.....Thank you for bringing it back to basics for me and reminding me of the AA magic I once had when I lived in Portland.
What an amazing share!!! Thank you so much Tony for opening up your heart to us. I’ve always admired you for your incredible acting skills, now I have an even more admiration for you. I’m proud to be clean and sober 3 months and 17 days.
@@p1nesap 2 weeks sober today. It is funny how I've made excuses not to stop my entire drinking career lol and now it is so easy to just say no. Well it has only been 2 weeks. I imagine it will get more difficult with time but I'm ready to face it! Good luck to you as well!
I tried sobriety and I was miserable.I just drink beers.Gonna crack another Ice cold Bud on my back porch and relax.Being an Alcoholic and having drinking problems are totally different things.Cheers...Congratulations on your chips.Hard as hell I'm sure.
Alcoholism may be the most misunderstood fatal condition known to mankind. I also believe the same to be true about AA itself. The “steps” are a design for living that would benefit anyone, not just the alcoholic. What most people fail to realize, is that people in AA represent every walk of life from Airline Pilots to Zoologists. Glad you enjoyed Tony’s talk!

Thanks for sharing this video. It has confirmed my willingness today to stay on the path of recovery. If someone of Tonys status, who can have anything he wants in life needs AA, then a commoner such as I surely needs it too 🙏🏻

It is amazing. the feeling like an 'alien' in childhood is another common thing. I felt the same way also. To this day I struggle with feeling different. This disease does not discriminate--it hits all walks of life.
Thank you for helping me keep sober today.
FYI
IN the spirit of the big book...if you are out of town and need a GOOD MEETING. PLEASE GO TO THE LIBRARY WITH YOUR HEADPONES
MAKE AN EFFORT TO WALK TO A MEETING. LISTEN ONLINE.
PRINCIPLES BEFORE PERSONALITIES.
LOVE YOU ALL
Happy birthday AA ...June 10, 1935 😃😎
June 10th 1935 is when AA started?
"Allergy of the body and obsession of the mind" is the first thing that really stuck with me in the early days of sobriety. It is something from AA that applies to so many things in this world; alcohol, drugs, sex, porn, etc and no matter how much we consume, its never enough.
What a great story. Speaker meetings have always been my favorite
WE all have so much in common, at the end of he day!
Thanks for your pitch Mr Hopkins!! I love the broad range of friends with bill.
Beautiful testimony. Thank you Tony for helping me stay sober today!! ❤️❤️❤️
This is such a fantastic speech.
Thank you Tony for sharing your experience, strength & hope. The program does work if you work it ONE DAY AT A TIME ❤️
Thank you Sir Anthony Hopkins. This disease is no respect or of person
This is absolutely awesome and a special treat indeed! I just celebrated 8 years thank you so much AA and Anthony!! Definitely joining on Facebook !wow!! 👏❤️👏👏❤️
Been trying hard to quit. Self medication got the better of me before proper treatment took hold. Now I take meds and drink every night...sigh
I'm so glad that so many people with public influence decide to break their anonymity. This program is such a blessing.
The steps save us. The traditions save the fellowship.
I am grateful for EVERYONE'S recovery from ANY substance (or other) abuse💃⚘✔💖
Thank you Sir! 29 years clean and sober. Husband also. We met in rehab in 1989!
Why don't we boast and brag .
niall441 you’re a complete and total Skell. Stop trolling these people and get the fuck off.
niall441 because if you slip and drink again it makes it harder for you to overcome your ego to admit your mistake.
6 years sober and I have volunteered at the recovery center located in Dr Bob's childhood home in St Johnsbury Vermont and I am grateful for recovery.
Hello pretty peggy.
What an amazing share!!! Thank you so much Tony for opening up your heart to us. I’ve always admired you for your incredible acting skills, now I have an even more admiration for you.
I’m proud to be clean and sober 3 months and 17 days.
What a wonderful person
Oh, God Tony. Hilarious and heart breaking. I’ve never heard anyone describe their school days like you did. It’s exactly how I felt. Thank you. 🍃🌷🍃
The Pacific group love love this. Thanks Tony
Wonderful share. With thanks Tony H!
6 days sober. I'm looking into AA and planning to attend some online meetings on my days off. Wish me luck!
Good luck man. I'm about the same. You might be about 2 weeks now.
@@p1nesap 2 weeks sober today. It is funny how I've made excuses not to stop my entire drinking career lol and now it is so easy to just say no. Well it has only been 2 weeks. I imagine it will get more difficult with time but I'm ready to face it! Good luck to you as well!
Thank you Tony a fellow friend of Bill’s
I appreciate your service❤️
Thank you Anthony H.
I tried sobriety and I was miserable.I just drink beers.Gonna crack another Ice cold Bud on my back porch and relax.Being an Alcoholic and having drinking problems are totally different things.Cheers...Congratulations on your chips.Hard as hell I'm sure.
absolutely awesome blessed to live a day at a time a remarkable story and spread the message amen..
I’m not even an alcoholic & Loved Hearing his funny perspective on a very serious condition.
I want to Specially appreciate you for being a big fan. I want you to send me a direct message via hangouts using my personal email or you can as well add me up on WhatsApp through my mobile number that will be indicated below. the part he talks about getting on with your life was fantastic.
Thanks for sharing this video. It has confirmed my willingness today to stay on the path of recovery. If someone of Tonys status, who can have anything he wants in life needs AA, then a commoner such as I surely needs it too 🙏🏻
Tradition Eleven states "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films".

29 years baby ...!!!!!😎 Surely would have been dead ......starting new sponsorship with John
A sponsor might be a bigger Nut than you are,
I've been to the place where this meeting is held in California. I'm 20 and have been sober for 7 months now, and I've never felt better in my life
Your share was exactly what I needed today...thank you soooo much..in a time of no face to face meetings, you have been my meeting !
I surely hope these were taped in open meetings, and that the poster has a sponsor who signed off on this project. The publishing of this material falls into the area of ‘press-radio-film’, no? Regards.
u rock been looking for meeting because of virus been clean and sober 14 yrs thank u from indiana
This was outstanding. I needed to hear this.
Tony, thanks for sharing your story. Very inspiring. I have 30 days sober and I have come home.
