- Is Rodin's monumental masterpiece a failure?
This video explains why there are two different versions of the same artwork, and why Rodin remained obsessed by the Gates until his death.
It shows how the artist managed to solve major aesthetic issues that faced modern artists at that time.
More info: canal-educatif....
He contemplated a composition of many major themes from the past, reworked them to become his own and then reinvented a completely new concept, which was in itself completed and refined through the ever evolving grace of his misfortune. After all those years, he certainly had walked through the gates of hell to create such a masterpiece. A true genius! This was absolutely the finest video. Well done!
What a treat this is. A project worthy of the great work of art it richly documents.... an appropriate summation of romantic ambitions.... the agony, ecstasy, striving, evolving spirit of the times.... each generation coping with the mysteries of passions felt, yearnings seeking fulfillment...
I love this work...
Thank you for sharing this with me. I look forward to further videos.
Bravo! Thank you for the opportunity to view and comment on. I'm truly impressed and look forward to more of these most welcomed and unique opportunities.
Thank you for the invitation and an opportunity to view the documentary. We learned a lot.
I must say, this was probably one of the most informational things I've seen in a long time. While the Doors themselves are rather gruesome, one cannot contest that Rodin was indeed a great artist.
Rodin was given to extreme theatrical gestures. It seems to me that his "second version" of the Gates of Hell may have been a reactionary statement to challenge the loss of the contract on the magnificent first version. Virtually all the figures missing from the door were displayed in monumental scale as freestanding masterpieces in the same exhibit.
Rodin was saying, "You tried to defame me by rejecting this composition, I have exceeded that rejection by the power of my creations."
Beautiful !
what a genius Rodin; the documentary is greatly richer with the paragraphs of the nice voice giving the explanations, in addition to the beautiful music.
congrats!!!
thanks for inviting, great doc!
Glorious. My UA-cam channel is after Dante. The Thinker. Through faith is the only way the open the door will open.
O.o allllright...

Ok. A game called Bayonetta has a character called Rodin who is a fallen angel working in a weapons store/bar called ‘The Gates Of Hell’ and the exit door is that exact statue.

Amazing work of art!
I never would have thought that Rodin made such a complex piece of sculpture/painting/architecture/story...
great song choice at end
what is the title of the music at 19:43
At last, a good video about Rodin's creative process!
Hi, got your message, heve been to the museum and seen it and was in awe
of the sculpture also as you probably know, Camille Cludel added some pieces (figures) as well. Yes I subscribed.
great work!
This Gate's replica is in Ueno, Tokyo Western Art Museum.
Great piece! Have you checked out Rodin Museum here in Philadelphia, PA. USA?
This is really wonderful. I certainly came out more educated on this topic after watch this. Very professional in quality and presentation.
chris...
Yes, that would be cool! We would love to have this video translated in different langages!
Rodin's Gates of Hell was clearly a counter sculpture to The Gates of Paradise by Lorenzo Ghiberti ...
I think every aspect of the work symbolizes something spiritually. The more you understand the Bible and spirituality, the more things like the missing hands of the muses at the top or the man wrapped up in his thoughts on the next level seem to have more significant meaning than just here is the author with his work or their hands were chopped off in an accident. The best thing about Rodin is the spiritual energy it exudes. Art is all about the personal interpretation, but to me, Rodin is very deep and very in tune with Biblical understanding.
Biblically what do the lack of hands represent?
if you are still willing to translate the video, it is easy now. Just go on the Amara website: there is a new page dedicated to the video, where everyone can add translations.
Thanks for sharing with me. I enjoyed watching it a lot. Wonderful presentation!
Formidable!!
Merci.
Un reportaje directo, profundo, detallado y profesional de una obra de la cual no tenia ni idea. Muchas gracias.
Enjoyed this video! Worth the half hour watch. If you're like me you'll learn quite a lot about sculpture in the 19th century, and it's actually pretty interesting!
The stripped door must be seen to contain some element of the expressive nature of Art Nouveau, in a quite abstracted form.
thanks for sharing it !
Beautiful,very ilustrative.
Excellent job and excellent choice of music.
Excellent Documentary and very good quality, really awesome... Rodin is awesome too. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing. This is a very good Documentary. The information is really well presented.
Now we know "language" takes a "u" in English. French people tends to add a "u" in French: that's the globalisation of mistakes. Sorry about that and sorry for the delay.
excellent video, thank you so much for sharing. I'm looking forward to seeing the doors of hell in person when I visit Paris in the near future. Very enlightening.
Nice use of on screen graphics and simple visual techniques, driven by strorytelling. Good work!

Excellent documentary. Thank your for sharing.
So are these stories written by the creator of these works? They all seem to have stories attached to the works, and the narrator explains a story before we even get to see the whole piece of artwork.
Thank you for having sent me this video .... Superb work and very interesting .... I will certainly suscribe to your channel.
This video is very interesting and educational. Thank you!

Studied Italian Reniassance. Interesting Rodan's reference. And no it was not a failure.
Merci beaucoup ami, je suis ravi de votre video.Adoro Rodin's, "Les portes de l'enfer" est magestuosa.Ahora en Espagne, à Madrid il ya une exposition avec les pensador.un abrazo.Isabel.
Sculpture cannot fail if it carries a social message of it s time. Through the counterpoint of a painting, a social critic or poet; or even the very material of the sculpture, singly or in multitude. If the sculptor misses any of this, there cannot be the paradigm shift, only the meditation upon this; an inevitable status of any work~in~progress
thank you for sharing this video with me--very intriguing. well done. keep it up!
Full Metal Alchemist?!?!
