This is certainly one of the best T&J cartoons EVER. The music is fantastic and that's all that the toon really needs for audio rather than dialogue, it's beautifully done.
@@VictorGonzalez-xs9oc But they don't really have the same magic as the classics and likely done by people who just take established ideas and twist them into their own manner
It was also used in animated cartoon shorts such as The Opry House (1929) with Mickey Mouse and Rhapsody Rabbit (1946) with Bugs Bunny. But of course, it's most famous in the 1988 film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit during a piano duel between Donald Duck and Daffy Duck.

@Christiansback2024 yeah. Whenever Jerry is distracted, it takes seconds to react afterward. That happened in The 3 Stooges. Moe hits Larry with the eye poke, and it takes a few seconds for him to react
@@scoutart1508 I'm unclear on the details, but unless I'm remembering wrong, apparently Rhapsody Rabbit was a bit further along in the production process than Cat Concerto was when Hanna and Barbera accidentally found out about it, and as a result they rushed production on Cat Concerto in order to finish theirs first. But even though they finished first and submitted it for Oscar consideration before Friz Freleng could finish Rhapsody Rabbit, it wasn't actually released to theaters until the following spring. Freleng was pissed about being beaten to the draw, but. as far as I'm aware, he, Hanna and Barbera never accused the other of ripping them off --- they all agreed it was just an amazing coincidence.
For those who don't know, at 4:47, the music transitions into the popular song "Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe," which was written for the Judy Garland musical "The Harvey Girls" from 1946, and won the Oscar for best original song.
Among Tom and Jerry's best shorts definitely deserved the Oscar win. While they would win 3 more Oscars afterwards this was their last short in the 4 year Oscar win streak.
Im 25 yo and i still watch T&J every time i feel depressed, it just has that nostalgic feeling to it, the music the animation, the houses the decor , like everything is so cozy and heart warming,
The most impressive part of this cartoon to me is not only were they able to create a fairly balanced and engaging battle with such a limited premise, but they did it with seamless transitions and no breaks in the music. It looks effortless here, but writing a continuous scene like this for 7 minutes straight without making it boring, repetitive, or gimmicky takes some considerable talent, let alone the effort put into animating it.
This is one of the best UA-cam channels I've seen. The classic cartoons bring back so many childhood memories. Whoever is uploading them, keep them coming.
Dire que c'est par eux que j'ai découvert la musique classique et que je l'ai adoré depuis lors. Revoir ça 25 ans plus tard me procure une très agréable nostalgie.
Man, what a classic throwback. I watched this countless times as a child and because of it, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 is my favorite piece of classical music. It has moments where it can be bold for one minute and then springy and uplifting in the next. What a musical.
Who didn't love Tom and Jerry?! 😊 The episode has music it definitely up my alley!! Next to is :"is you is ,is you ain't my baby". That song always makes me laugh 🤣😂
"Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" is a song written by Louis Jordan and Billy Austin. The song's first recording, by Jordan, was made on October 4, 1943.
I'll admit that I've always enjoyed Rhapsody Rabbit a bit more as a child because I saw that one more often on TV, but honestly, this short is also a masterpiece. I love the classical music centered Tom and Jerry shorts, such as Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl and Johann Mouse. My favorite gag in this one is Jerry trying to cut Tom's finger with a pair of scissors. Also the bit where Jerry starts gleefully playing "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" much to Tom's annoyance. The ending is classic where Jerry keeps trolling Tom.
When you think every frame was drawn by hand by hand, using no computers and the genius of the storyboard writers together with the ideas of how to put it all to the music, no wonder it won an Oscar. The beginning when Tom walks pompously onto the stage in the manner of a great maestro cracks me up 😂
Tom and Jerry has been my favorite and always will be! For a hilarious cat that’s been dealing with lots of pain from Jerry by being outsmarted, Tom really knew a lot about the piano.🎹
they gave Jerry the spotlight at the end but Tom deserves credit for sticking to the performance no matter what. even while they were fighting he still kept playing the piano and kept the consert going.
In a world that seems to be getting totally out of hand, it's great sit down and watch some normality in the form of a Tom & Jerry cartoon directed by the best director ever. Fred Quimby.
Oncore. Super pianist. So talented. The timing in the cartoon is excellent. I've not seen this timeless piece of T&J for decades. Childhood memories. Adored Tom and Jerry, as well as Tweetie and Sylvester the Cat.
I actually always liked the Bugs version more, but to be honest, I saw that one more often. I thought the piano gags with Bugs were a bit more creative as Tom is for the most part, playing the piano straight--Jerry is the one providing most of the comedy here. Both are really good though.
@@jamircox8458 Agreed. To be fair, I grew up watching and knowing about Tom and Jerry's cartoon. I didn't really know about Bugs Bunny's version until much later.

3:20 the delay gets me every single time 😂
It's not the only time Jerry gets hit and the delayed reaction of being knocked out
I recall a similar gag occurring in “The Mouse Comes to Dinner” where Tom whacks Jerry with a spoon as he’s noisily slurping upon the cheese spread.
Ouch

This strategy is way smarter than putting all the shorts behind a paywall on Max.
Most of the shorts not all sadly because of the controversy regarding Mammy Two Shoes for example.
The slapstick is so perfectly timed to the piano piece. This is a true masterpiece of comedic timing.
