Update: The beavers had this thing rebuilt within 3 days and within 3 weeks it was thicker and about a foot taller. This dam is new this year and the beavers just experienced their first big rain. The dam was completely washed away and the creek is now flowing like it was before them. This creek turns into a river every year.
creek bottom looked shallow when you walked up where the beavers had dammed it up and removed their pile of sticks breaking their dam, if you dig it out deeper where you walked up to in the shallow creek and put a overflow pipe into it hiding it from beavers would that help from turning into a river? and put a trapper cage out to catch bobcats size then take them beavers to a habitat rescue for animals maybe they can get them to new housing water way that they cant block up .
it was nice of you to leave a lot of their building material on the banks beside the old dam. It might have taken them beavers 4 days if they had to cut all new material during the rebuild ;)
If this is your property then the beavers did you a favor. A pond of this size isn't cheap to install and if it wasn't creating a problem ,it would make a nice place to stock fish and attract ducks to hunt.
Keep up the great work, you are one of the few who, IMHO, that realizes that the sticks hold back the mud, and the mud holds back the water. Getting rid of the sticks, removes the mud and the water washes all of it away. You accomplished more in 20 minutes than some people do in an hour. I like it when you pull out a stick at the bottom of the dam and the leak keeps getting bigger especially satisfying when the whole dam lets go.
Hell Yeah brother! Enjoyed every minute of this! Damn fine job you did! I'm a bit older now but that took me back to my teen aged years. I'd bust a small hole in the dam and set a trap. Next day was easy pickings and the pelts sold qiuckly! The local farmers picked up on it and paid me to come trap foxes and bobcats. Sold those pelts as well. Getting paid doing what I thought was just plain fun! Life was good!
This guy definitely understands Beaver dam engineering . He had it breached quicker than some videos I have watched with excavators or backhoes being used. Awesome
I've done this by hand too. Its much harder that it looks. The sticks are laid in such a way that they act like they are woven together. Its far more than just a pile of sticks. I too was impressed by how fast he had it flowing again.
Keep removing the dam, daily if necessary, the newer the dam the easier it is to pull apart. If you are lucky the beaver will leave, if not trap or kill them
I've seen videos where they use expensive backhoes, and all sorts of tools. This one dude wearing sneakers, socks, shorts and a tee shirt did it barehanded! So determined!
Helps that there were larger bits of wood in there. The larger they are the more you can disrupt the construction by taking them out. The smaller they are and the more mud, sticks and stones the beavers use to put it together, the longer it will take to pull it apart. If somehow the beavers managed to let the mud bake before a heavy rainfall it might become rock solid and far harder to break.
Also he's being pretty foolish considering the height and width of the dam. If enough of it failed at once at best he'd just be swept down stream - at worst he'd be impaled quickly on one of the branches he dislodged.
Beavers create meadows. Silt settles in still water. The dams also retain water in the high lands allowing more moisture later in the dry season. Dams that plug culverts are damaging to roads.
theres always pros, but flooding areas of people property that people want dry? not a pro. creating a massive stagnant mosquito breeding ground? not a pro.
I removed a beaver dam with my grandad. He wanted it gone because it blocked the water from what he regarded as his swimming hole. The beavers rebuilt it overnight. Day 2 repeat, etc. After a number of increasingly dramatic tear downs, including explosives, he called state game wardens. They trapped & moved the beavers when the water started to wash out a road upstream. The critters are really good engineers & their dams are really strong.
That was a great breach in such a short time. I don't think I've seen anybody tackle a dam that size without tools before, most people would have hired a backhoe to remove a dam of that size. Well done!
I would have used explosives, but for hand jobbing a beaver damn, nicely done. You do have to make it as wide as possible, to delay said beavers from building it again. They will.
My friend did the same thing, stood down stream while pulling twigs and mud from the damn, then it let go, the whole side came down at once, if it wasnt for a shallow bank and his moving off to the side it would have buried him. Dangerous to stand on that side my friend.
A beaver dam plow is what is needed there. Just hook it into the branches and use a tractor, quad bike, horse or what ever to pull it and it will loosen up the branches and make it easier to clean out . They have used them in Europe for centuries.
Kind of like disarming you advisary letting him survive unloading his firearm and leaving the ammo next to it... It will catch up to you... A lot of hard work for so little reward. Eh? Bill
Enjoyed watching your hard work and also wondering why you didn’t start at one end instead of the middle. That was a massive structure you damaged, I’m checking for a follow up. Thanks…
Manure Hook\Curved Tine Manure Fork\4-tine cultivator is the best tool for beaver dam removal but it's easier to remove long sticks with your hands before using any tools. A Halligan bar might be helpful at times.
I have to admit, I was watching you Pick-A-Part the dam and I was hoping you would do it thoroughly and efficiently so I could watch the wall of water Knock You Down.

That's how a real Man gets it done . 2 hands and a stick. Outstanding

Yes!
Best beaver dam opening I've ever seen. Very good hard working job!

Mrs Beaver: "Honey do you hear running water?"
Mr Beaver: "Hold my beer ..."
But shouldn't he be helping the Pevensie children escape?
Ha ha ha ha. Love it. I imagine they are in their den and the water is going down and they think am I imagining this.

No gloves, no tools. He was determined and actually did an impressive job.
Sure did😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👍👋🏼
Unless you've physically removed the BEAVER, don't worry, they'll have it all put back together by tomorrow morning!
Looks like they did not rebuild, they were afraid of his overwhelming manliness.
@@JulioMo 😂😂😂

It was exciting when you pulled that big log and whoooosh!
Man tears apart damn. Beaver put on hard hat and challenge accepted.
That’s a real man pitting himself against the beaver. He doesn’t even cheat with a pick-axe!
Dude when I realized you going at it with your hands, I gave you no chance. You proved me wrong well done that was great.
Зачёт тебе,один в ручную разобрал платину,молодец👍👍👍🧡
and a week later the beaver has repared it. hes on patrol now has purposely built guard towers with mini guns to catch him out doing it again. lol
Mark Pearson
They use flood lights too I take it!!! 😁
Somewhere there's a video posted on Beav-Tube with the title "See Goliath think he's so tough!" Can't you just see it?
Beaver be like... Hold my tree and watch this shizzle lol
When you toss the stuff a couple feet away, it's right there for the beaver to use again, hopeless.
bever sade damed human damage my dam
Dedicated guy, A+ for all his hard work.

The beaver put it all back together with Wally and Lumpys help!

Lot of wood collection for camp🔥. Thanks beaver, do it again and again.
huge Spirited Away vibes, when Chihiro tried to pull garbrage out of river spirit.
keep up the good work, man ♥

Thanks. It was fun. I did bring a 4 prong rake but after I decided to video it I used it and my wrist watch to hold my camera phone.
This is like a messed up game of Jenga, where you're trying to get the tower to collapse.
No tools. Just brute strength and patience. Good job.

Excelente trabajo..!! Bien hecho..desde Chile lo veo.
It's amazing how beavers can move around those big trees, industrial Lil critters aren't they.
Wow, du hast den Damm eigenhändig befreit. 👍RESPEKT! Sehr gut gemacht. Es macht Spaß dir zuzuschauen. Das Video gefällt mir. 🌼🌼🌼🌼
That looks like the most fun anyone could have. I would have loved to do that.
If I had a civil engineering business, I’d call it Beaver Civil Engineers.
Zach' s baver dam lad you did one hell of a job to do that on your own well done from Australia
Pretty awesome video those dams are though to tear apart I enjoyed this
Awesome!! So glad this was in my recommended :)
I think he's just getting started in the business here. Id bet he has improved his technique and is doing much better now
Wow Dude, you are amazing. Doing this with nothing but you bare hands and a stick. unbelievable.
The sad reality is that they'll have that rebuilt by morning.
Unless you trap the first.
I am sure he is well aware of that.
Anybody ever wonder about the downstream effects? Nice, tranquil creek turns into raging torrent.

Manually removing one that big takes a lot of work. Good job!
This was impressive, I've never seen someone remove a dam with just their hands. Really good.
He was supposed to get married the next day but he didn’t.
He got cold feet.
Probably the worst joke I've read...
Love it!
And even more
This is not zack's Beaver damn ,its the BEAVERS!!!
The perfect beaver dam, breached. It must have been built by an Oregon State Beaver?
way to go good hard work. I like the sound of water flowing
Yeah me too
cool video, thanks for sharing.
I appreciate you getting in there with your hands.
What an effort, Well done. The best dam removable I have ever seen.
Watch at 2x speed.

Beavers - “watch out fellas, here’s trouble!” ...... “yep!”......
You certainly aren't afraid of hard work! Great job!
Молодец парень!!! Вот только не зря-ли всё это? И интересно было бы узнать, за сколько дней бобры восстановили эту плотину.
Man: disassembles beaver dam.
Beaver: returns to find all necessary supplies conveniently located. 😁
am i the only one that wants to take all those sticks and build a massive burn pile?
beavers do not reuse the wood
Great Job Zach!!!
Thanks!
Hey Zach. Good job! Lots of water!
Dam that is a big ass Dam...
That’s some hard work, to be sure.
whoa...huge difference in water levels @7:50 and @23:30 ... good job!
I hope he also counts every stick he pulls out.
Great work! No garden rake, or shovel?!! That's hard work by hand, either way!
My 4 prong rake was repurposed to be used as a camera stand. Didn't plan on recording this when I went out.
Ooohh. Ok now maybe get a new rake, please and shovel
Real good job buddy. Not very many people know how to tare apart a dam the right way.
Thanks!
100 lbs of tnt aaaannnd... BOOM!!! No more damn beaver dam
Oh my gosh. I wonder if beaver come back to fill it up again before you take it out of the river?
Srraayyy Sonny keep your paws off my damn dam
I dont think Mr Beaver is going to appreciate this

One stick at time boy you got a full time job
Кто от Академика привет!!! Бобры нынче популярны стали :)))
Some kid running for his life downstream lol
I've worked beaver dams. There is tons of mud of remove behind the dam if you want to do any real damage to it. Best to use explosives of you can.
Holding back all that sediment is one reason beaver dams improve a watershed. The ponds also retain water, which helps charge the groundwater tables.
Zach needs a long-handled potato rake!
I didn't plan on recording it and repurposed my 4 prong rake into a camera phone stand.
So I was left with just my hands.
Awesome job for a hand clearing.
He was a busy little beaver !
I’m amazed they get new timber and build it again. You would think they would bring the old timber back and build it.
Nice socks. The dam never stood a chance.
I'd be a little skittish about my leg on the upstream side. That's got submarine defensive retaliation written all over it.
That was the scariest part. If you watch me when I step in the deep I'm pretty quick to get out lol.
Don’t know why but this is damm good.
Good job...hard labor

I recommend a Halegon (sp?) tool like firefighters use. Essentially a big pry bar with a clow head for levering stuff up/open.
