    HI!
    Although regretfully I no longer have an aquarium, I still watch, for the sheer delight of it, your instructive videos.
    Keep up the good work!
    Ciao from Italy.

    What a great video! I’ve heard all of these things before, but it’s great to hear a reminder of all of them in a list like this.

    Thanks for this video, Jason. I think the conditions are good for my bristlenose plecos. Every time I turn around, there are more babies. My husband and I have just spent 3 days giving some of the larger ones away or trading for other fish.

    Always useful information presented in a down to earth, easy to grasp and understand way. Really appreciate all that you do to break topics down and educate hobbyists for maximum success in whatever they are trying to do.

    On the subject of species only tanks some fish feel safer and more secure if a shoal of small dither fish are in the tank like ember tetras. To counter the small enough to eat problem. Use a twist of the fry box system. Either use a couple of larger fry boxes with dithers, or make a wider shallow tank that will perform the same purpose, up to about twenty percent the size of the surface area of the breeding tank secured to have some of that tank sub surface a clear base so problems solved. It worked for me with small to medium sized catfish and cichlids.

    11. Make sure you have a male and a female in the tank 😁
    There are hobbyist who got excited seeing their american cichlid spawning eggs and asked will they hatch meanwhile they only have females in the tank

    I recently found a very small pygmy cory in my aquarium. There was an illness in the tank in December that I thought killed off all, but one of my corys.

    Great video! Is it possible to control/slow down breeding if you only want the occasional smaller spawn? For example with kribensis.

      @PrimeTimeAquatics  Рік тому +1

      You could either remove the female or add fish that will eat the fry.

    When I had Guppies, they used to breed like mad. Now that I keep just White Clouds, supposedly they are easy to breed, but never seem them do it.

    I had 4 platys, now i have 3. One is a pointy tail red tail wag tail - I dont know, its red and black with a pointy weird tail - no fish likes that one and they chase it away. I have 3 right now, 1 died. The one that died kept getting chased by the other normal platys, and one platy was locked onto it all the time - if it moved, the other moved - and that fish died. It didn't act like it was upset or stressed, but it died one day randomly. Now the two normal platys are stuck together like the other were. I dont see any difference in these fish at all, to say ones a male and ones a female. I'm actually confused by these fish. Yesterday, all three of them were dancing and following each other in a circle, real close together in a clump. Then after about 10 minutes of this dancing, the normal platys chased the pointy tail away and back to normal. Are all the fish I have male? LOL I dont know...

      I had a similar problem with platys being very aggressive toward each other. Annoying because everyone claims they are great for a community tank but I find someone is always being chased especially the males stressing each other out

    I have a question for you. Where I live the osmozed water are also ozoned. This is ok for fish thanks ?

      Ozone treated water is usually safe - the ozone breaks down rapidly.

    What are the best water parameters for breeding Bolivan Rams and GBR please ?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  Рік тому

      Bolivian check this out: ua-cam.com/video/yh66CXYsEH0/v-deo.html
      GBR water should be 82-83, soft with a pH closer to 6.5.

    What about snails? I have a white cloud tank. Supposed to be easy to breed. But I've only gotten TWO fry that have grown. There are a LOT of snails in there, and a couple Amano shrimp. Could that be the issue??

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  Рік тому +1

      White clouds will sometimes eat fry, but I doubt the snails or shrimp are doing anything.

    Jason, I have a professor question for you regarding #1. If you just left a tank on its own, but fed and maintained it, do you think/or know if natural selection would even out the population gender curve or even begin favoring females over males? What I mean is would the males eventually compete to death or age out and the female population would grow at a higher rate?
    Also, apologies for not being on the livestreams the past few months. I've been busy irl and trying to minimize my social media interactions. Still watch yours and Joanna's stuff though.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  Рік тому +2

      Good question - it depends on the type of fish. For more aggressive fish the males will wipe each other out, but for many less aggressive fish they just do a lot of showing off.

    Hi, can you make a video on how to stop breading fish? lol. I've only got 2 x 20 gallon tanks and the platies and corydoras keeps on breading and I do not have a grow out tank and this causes "over population" while I'm waiting for them to get to a size before I can give them away for free. I want to enjoy my 2 fish tanks and do not want to start a bussiness lol

    • @danielwcheng6381
      @danielwcheng6381 Рік тому

      Congrats, you have a great set up where your fish are breeding like mad...that is a hazard for live breeders such as platies, guppies, and swordtails. I have a similar situation with red swordtails. For me I grow them out to about 1/2" then just give them to my LFS for free. Swords are so common I don't get paid for them, rather I get good will and discounts for what ever I buy and it's all on a hand shake. But I always ask him if he can use/sell them, so it's not a regular drop off. I personally think conscious breeding of fish, requires a plan for the future of the offspring.

    I never kept my tanks with a lot of fish, I had fishtanks by the age of 8. As my late husband used to say, there's not enough bed for everyone, meaning not to keep the tanks crowded.
