They don’t hunt on land because their stealth factor is taken away and they use so much energy moving on land. They will go after pets near the waters edge, as that’s a free meal. This gator probably climbed this lady’s fence in mating season, where the males will look for females or sometimes, get kicked out of the lake by bigger males.
