- SKETCHIN' & SKATIN' - Caricature Art of Hector Lopez - You probably don't know who Hector Lopez is, but perhaps you have seen his art. He is an illustrator, cartoonist and the Official Oklahoma City Thunder Caricature Artist. By day he loves to spend time on his skateboard. But when the Thunder plays at home you can always find Hector in the hallway of Section 302 of the Chesapeake Arena doing what he does best, sketching caricatures of Thunder Fans; a skill he calls "Fast Food Art." With a quick glance and a confident stroke of the pen, Hector effortlessly captures the essence of his subjects' in less than three minutes. "When people ask me if drawing caricatures is my profession, I say it's more like my anti-profession; because I arrived at it by being unprofessional and doodling all the time." Join, Gallery as we spend time with this one-of-a-kind artist for a little Sketchin' & Skatin'.
Lopez,he is one of the Maestros.
Much respect!
❤️
Hector applied and was turned down several times at Disney Land. He kept practicing and was finally hired for several years. He moved to Oklahoma for the cheap cost of living and one day answered a Craigs List ad for a temp job with the OKC Thunder. After the first year he was hired on permanently as the resident artist.
Thank you so much for the documentary video it bring so much joy to my broken heart at this time of grieving.
One of my biggest inspirations, love you bro and I'm sure gonna miss seeing your posts .
Briefly in the year 2008 I crossed paths with Hector. He had worked at Universal prior to me arriving and had noticed how talented and creative he was. Did not get a chance to work with him but I did walk into him a few times and probably exchanged a few words. Shortly after he left for Oklahoma, and continued to follow his art career via social media. Although I did no really know him personally I was heart broken when I heard of the news. To this day I still don't know the details as he seemed to be healthy and a very active guy. We need more people like him in this world and from I gather it seemed he was also a patriot and loved this country. Thanks for making this documentary.
AWESOME video! We bring our high school students come every year to a Thunder game and we love seeing Hector! It's a tradition that they stop and get their portraits done! Hector is a great part of the Thunder experience!!!

An extraordinarily well done piece of short documentary. I love finding rare gems like these in the slag heap of UA-cam. Mr Lopez modestly refers to what he does as "Fast Food Art", implying that what he does in three minutes is somehow less valuable than work done by other artists over a longer period of time. With all due respect, I must disagree.
First, both Mr Lopez caricature and illustration work testify to his artistic prowess. Are there *air quotes* better artists? Sure. But he's living the life. He's producing art that's meaningful to him, and he's supporting his family. That makes him a successful artist in anyone's book.
Second, take any self-described "fine artist", put them in a noisy environment with crowds of people watching them, put 180 seconds on the clock and tell them to draw someone's likeness. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred they wont be able to do it.
Mr Lopez is not some scrub on the bottom-most rung of the art ladder, flipping the equivalent of 3-minute art "burgers" for the peasants. Quite the contrary. Mr Lopez is the art equivalent of a professional athlete; performing at the top of his game under pressure that would send most artists to the showers.
Lastly Mr.Lopez gives his caricatures to the fans for free. When they see them, they smile and laugh. They take them home as cherished souvenirs, and show them to their friends, families, and co-workers. And he's doing that *fifteen* times/hour. His three minute masterpieces are bringing a lot more joy into the world than the piece of "fine art" that gets sold in a gallery and ends up collecting dust in some rich person's sitting room.
"Fast Food art" indeed. I'll take fast food over caviar every day of the week, and guys like Hector Lopez serve it up fresh.
Could have not said it better myself...
Mr. Lopez...very talented human person, indeed....!!

Hector: I see that you use the Crayola markers for the fast sketches...what are you using for the gray areas? Graphite stick? Just curious! Thanks...

How did you get the opportunity to work as a caricature artist at the NBA Arena ?
heres the direct link! Thanks Boots!
Has he any youtube channel?
And how do you make a living drawing for free at the NBA Arena?
As a professional caricature artist you are sometimes hired by company's or sports events and they pay you a generous hourly rate to draw caricatures for guest. The guest don't pay anything as its already paid for by the Sports organization or company. You must be able to draw a minimum of 12 to 14 faces with a general likeness of the person in a live setting in order to be considered. You also have the opportunity to make tips on top of everything if the company allows it.
But he is Sergio Aguero!!!
Bro, why are you working for free?
