As a devout Tea drinker I was so envious watching you talk about Orange Pekoe. I only drank that tea for many years until it became unavailable here in South Africa. If it is sold here it is so expensive that it is unaffordable to the majority of heavy tea drinkers here. Thanks for a great video.
@@OurLordandSaviorSigmar I'd say the black tea is considerably lighter and with floral notes, when compared to more full-bodied black teas from India and Sri Lanka for instance. The green tea can be quite "vegetable tasting" and with some bite since the leaves are steamed to stop the oxidation process like typical Japanese green teas.
If it is literally broken tea leaves, then it is usually considered a bad tea. Full leaves are always preferred for good teas. That's why Chinese teas are one of the most respected teas in the world. Most farms don't let their leaves break.
to think that the method they use for powering the machines is 100 years old and studied today for energy-efficient systems tells us a lot about the state of our technological development and environmental concerns. Super interesting.
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic, all of it (factory, plantation, owner, reporter, documentation etc.). Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all involved people.
It's great to see where my favorite green tea comes from. My parents are from Sao Miguel, and settled here, where the Azorean community reigns supreme! I'm thankful there are local markets that sell the Goreanna brand!
That's because they originally had a guy from China training them at the beginning. It's part of the history which you learn about if you visit - we went a few years ago!
Wow , Claudia in that opening shot, i thought you were in China! Wouldn't expect a bunch of Portuguese to know anything about tea but there you go! You look charming as always and I hope you enjoyed your tea.
Im kinda shocked at the way the leaves are being harvested 😨 it’s like u go to a salon for a haircut expecting the person to use scissors but they only use men’s hair clippers
Tea made the old fashioned way- check Pristine pure water- check Mineral rich volcanic soil- check Zero pollution- check I can confirm their tea tastes delicious.
Tea leaf plucking, it is not cutting everything on the top. this shows their workmanship and quality, adding tea buds stem will degrade the flavour. but water energy & power management is great.
Leaf plucking is actually a very deep and complex subject. Buds actually in feature in many very high quality teas, for example white teas like silver needle. The inclusion of stems in the picking can also boost the aroma compounds in the tea and is particularly noticeable in Taiwanese oolongs.
That was absolutely fascinating. I had no idea one of the Azores grew tea. Can you tell me who their market is? Is the tea sold all over, or is most of it consumed by the Portuguese? Very interesting. Thank you.
@@ricoli87 what you're talking about? In the year 2011 Gorreana matched sales in Portugal continental to Azores. That's thanks to being available in all the stores in the Próvida (Celeiro, etc) natural products chain of stores, and being distributed in the large area supermarket chains like Auchan. At least from 2009 you can easily find Gorreana in Pingo Doce, from 2012 on in Lidl. Not to mention well known herbalist stores scattered in all mainland cities and tourist souvenir establishments all over Portugal Continental. To get my Gorreana it's just a 5 min drive away to Auchan or Pingo Doce.
in my country Indonesia, tea young leaves are hand picked and choosen, there is good one and a bad one, not using machine that will take every top shoot
Maybe you can go into why the caffeine is different in each tea next time. I didn’t know all tea was made from the same plant…how can the caffeine levels be different? Just because of the oxidation process??
Caffeine levels are very hard to determine. Generally the Indian (Assam) variety has more caffeine than the Chinese variety and the smaller and younger the leaf the more caffeine. Don’t confuse this with a small broken leaf grade after processing. The age of the plant and the methods of cultivation all play a part in caffeine levels. To say that black tea has more caffeine than white or green tea would be false as a grade of white tea consisting of only small leaf buds is likely to have more. Also if I may add, Tea per 1kg has more caffeine than coffee but we generally only use 2-3g per cup making it less.
The successor of the tea factory did not introduce the origin of the tea making process and the origin of the original tea varieties, nor why a tea factory was built here, but I think the tea seeds and tea making process came from Great China
Actually when the Portuguese found Japan 🇯🇵 they adopted the techniques of the Japanese to grow tea . It’s actually Chinese in origin that’s why the name Camilla chinensus

How's Azores tea different from other teas in terms of taste?

You can find it on any supermarket in the Azores... Not so common in mainland Portugal though. In the UK? Not a chance :)
