- Michael Palin teams up with Dame Maggie Smith in this uproarious comedy where the laughs come fast and the upper class becomes furious! Life isn’t easy in 1947 Yorkshire, where strict post-war food rationing is putting the squeeze on the townspeople. But when a married working-class couple (Palin and Smith) discover that the town’s wealthy elite has been secretly fattening up an illegally owned pig for their own selfish gluttony at a feast to celebrate the marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten, they hatch an outlandish kidnapping scheme that gives a new meaning to the phrase bringing home the bacon! This classic from the golden age of British comedy won three BAFTA awards, including Best Actress for Dame Maggie Smith and Best Supporting Actor for Denholm Elliott.

An absolute classic - I watched this back in 1987 and I was 11 years old and I'll watch it again!
A good chunk of the Harry Potter cast is in this. Love this film. Handmade films are so underrated.
They did so many good films lots of them with python cast members as George Harrison created the company to finance life of Brian. This and a movie called time bandits funny films.
Just heard the very sad news of the passing of Dame Maggie Smith (Friday September 27th 2024) just 3 month short of her 90th birthday (December 28th 1934)
May she rest in peace
“It’s not pork it’s power” Made in the 80’s but has that great late 40’s early 50’s feel to it synonymous with Ealing. Michael Palin showing he had more strings to his bow than Python and Ripping Yarns and supported by a great British cast including Denholm Elliott and Maggie Smith.
A private function, a private function, a private function, a private function!!!!
A brilliant film
Would like to view the entire movie.
RIP Maggie Smith
PF still on top

It's a trailer! Where is the full movie?
Yes! It's a trailer! Imagine that! It says, "Official Trailer," and it's a trailer!
Where can this be seen ?
I remember disliking this film because of the pig's digestive issues. I'd forgotten Maggie was in it.
Anyone else here from king of the hill?
