  • Many people who came in contact with this pre-teen singer found it hard to believe that such a big voice could come out of someone so small. She went on to win numerous awards and top the music charts all before she graduated high school. Then, she completely disappeared. Let’s find out what happened to American ‘90s R&B/Pop singer Tracie Spencer.

Stevie Wonder is a musical genius, in addition to Prince. How would any true Artist walk away from doing what they love? It's in their blood, not in Tracie's blood. James "Jimmy Jam" Harris & Terry Lewis have also never quit their careers - because they love what they do. Janet has been in the game, solidified with her 3rd LP, "CONTROL" & has outlasted many artists including Tracie

@@treswann6822 the industry is not kind to ALL artists. A lot of artist lose their passion for music when they can't create the content they want..Sometimes it's about what's in the best interest for the artist. Not the Record labels. A lot of these companies do not push for other artists like the people you are mentioning. Who wants to leave when they're considered washed up? Then they start getting they have a point to prove by staying.. Jimmy jam and Terry are mostly producers that's steady income for them for a lifetime. Even though Janet holds her own she is still Michael Jackson's sister. Yes Stevie wonder is a legend but his career slowed down as well. Nobody stays on top forever. Save a private person do not care about being on top that care about their peace and well being. The goal should always be retirement

@@jboogiethebeat the point I was expressing was taken outta context, initially: There was & always be room for great music. Her husband co-produced her 3rd album. It didn't accomplish what I anticipated nor did meet many listeners' standards. Darkchild handled Brandy & Monica, Timbaland was the sonic vision for Aaliyah & Missy, BABYFACE was consumed with Toni, soundtracks, etc...Jam & Lewis were pushing Angel, Mint Condition, Mary J. Boyz II Men, etc...so, Tim & Bob, Dre & Vidal, James Poyser would have been a million times better than 2 wanna be SOUL producers. Mariah was delivering since 1990, not just because she can sing but writing & production. Tracie's parents produce?

Tracie and Shanice had the late 80’s and early 90’s young R&B on lock. They were both on Family Matters. “Hide and Seek,” “This House,” “Love Me,” and “Tender Kisses” were jams. Third album “Tracie” was a slept on banger. “If You Wanna Get Down,” “Feelin’ You,” “All About You,” “Still in My Heart,” “No Matter,” and “Nothing Broken But My Heart” were hitters. Tracie also sang Backing vocals on Eve’s “Satisfaction,” Kanye and Jay-Z “Never Let Me Down,” and Twista and Kanye “Slow Jamz.” She did her thing. Tracie and Aaliyah resemble.

Her third album should’ve gained more attention than it got. “Still in My Heart” is one of my favorites. I think she was an act that suffered from image transition. There was a significant amount of years between her 2nd and 3rd albums and I think by the time she came back out, there was already a new wave of r&b girls (Brandy, Aaliyah, Mya, Monica) dominating the game. Very unfortunate because she’s very talented. Also fun fact: she sings the hook on Eve’s “Satisfaction” song. I never knew that till recent.

@ J Taylor - I think you're dead on. Tracie had the goods. I was onto her from 'Star Search.' I recognized the image transition problem, in much the same way this was a setback for another contemporary of Tracie's - Shanice Wilson. Another powerhouse of a singer whose image seemed to change with every album. Their marketing departments were conflicted as to how to present them to the public.

What’s unique about Tracie is how she was able to successfully transition between decades. Her first hit was in 88’ her second was in 90’ She was was able to adjust her style and music to compete with other women artist of the 90’s. Her innovation kept her relevant well into the late 90’s. I’m glad she was able to transition later on in life to become a wife and a mother. She is truly a legend.

That same thing happened to Karyn White choosing Jam & Lewis over the duo who delivered her biggest "SUPER WOMAN" smash

I would only guess there was a slight possibility. Aaliyah sang with her uncle's wife, Gladys Knight at a young age, then there's the fact that R.K. handled Aaliyah's debut. Tracie's 2nd album was released on August 1990, Aaliyah's 1st was released on May of 94 so...Aaliyah didn't put forth any material that targeted the white demographic like Tracie. I only like 2 songs by Tracie. For tracie's 3rd outing I think it was not wise for her to use the white producers/husband for the bulk of it. They were overrated - Soulshock? You can't shock what you don't have lol
