True story. I grew up on the eastside. Erdman ave area, Gardenvillage area, all over. We used to say Eastside was more dangerous than the west. I was young and thought westside wasn't as tough. I moved to park heights in 2011 when my wife and I separated. I used to live on West Belvedere. Not far from PK HTS ave. They was straight savages out there. They gives no f&&s. Cats will kill their own family for money. I survived because I stayed to myself and I was a civilian. I dont live that life. My brother in law was from Annapolis and he was befriending everybody he met but I had to tell him chill on inviting all these cats in our house cuz cats be on some plotting stuff. I love my city, even though I live in PA now but Bmore is in my heart. It made me what I am today but if you not a street dude, stay up out there

I was the UPS man in Muphy homes in the late 80's early 90's. Never had a problem. I gave the resident's the same respect I gave the tenants of the downtown condominiums that didn't have a concierge. The people gave what they got as far as respect. Much love to MHP.

@@tonytucker6145 - Murphy Homes like any other project or bad neighbor. I delivered out Cherry Hill and Brooklyn , I did my job and had no issues with no one. I use to double back at night on that last Friday before every Xmas to make sure kids in Cherry Hill get their gifts. Mr. Tony know ones scared of MHP but black folks and MHP behaved as such because most of yall was scared too. At anytime, the white could have shut MHP down but you guys were a project, a project that fail as they knew MHP would do.
And the fact that most of you guys can't shaking MHP with you everywhere you go, proves it. Its tough dudes and neighborhoods throughout the city. I'm a product of several of them, but I didn't allow it to define me and I'm lucky, I was able and wanted to make a change. I understand surviving, but the real tough dudes are the ones who avoid what everyone else fell for but managed to make his legally and keep it.

The boasting is being able to survive. To know that a few of them can be on par or better than those who came from backgrounds 10x more advantaged in every way is where the pride is. In being able to survive, there is pride. And if you happen to be a proyd american, take your losses with your wins. Shit aint no different

I totally agree Markus. That's the vibe I got from this video. It's the glorification of criminality, living in deplorable circumstances, and the like, that sets many in our community back. Sure those situations can but to celebrate a culture of death, dysfunctionalism, and destruction is bs and it needs to stop. Too many youngsters are easily mislead by those messages. These things need to be cautionary tales so that they can be learned from and left behind.

Born in Brownsville, Blyn NYC& grew up in the Howard Houses pjs! Moved to Bmore, but never lived in the pjs, but haved been to them! My main hangout was Gilmore Homes pjs & they are in the process of being torn down. The area was dangerous ( shootings, drugs, etc.) But I still remember some good times along with the bad!! If nothing else, growing up in the hood taught survival, but it still was & is for some a stepping stone to something better!! One can become complacent living in the hood because it's all they know!! Things have gotten worse in what we who live there call Bmore; drugs, crime, poverty, corruption, & murder are the norm & it's sad because it doesn't really have to be this way!!

I'm going to keep my mouth closed on this because some of these people I don't even know from back in the day like 1978 - 82 or 87 - 95 or they weren't even born. Some of them are reiterating stories they "heard but didn't live"; have no clue as to "honor amongst thieves" or "loyalty to their drug dealing peers" , don't know "codes to live by" . Surviving in MHP wasn't a game it was a LIFESTYLE whether you had a drug addiction or if you were a dealer you were still "caught up" in the lifestyle! Age mattered not, your skills and your willingness to do whatever was necessary to obtain whatever you wanted (more drugs / more money/ more bodies/ open more cans of whoop ass or whatever it was is what mattered. Can you count money, can you run fast, can THINK fast on your feet? Off of your feet? Can you "sling"/ "pitch"? Even the "corner man/woman" was an important role to have; "Po-Po" or "5/O" coming. How are you going to be a big time drug dealer but never did time, the best of them has gotten caught N did their time. How is it you did not, but so many others around you did bits in Prison N you were a main supplier? Which side of the fence were you really on? Pain and suffering takes you places, your mom/dad/uncles did one thing - you did another thing but guess what? You were all the same; WE were all in the same basket! An interchangeable connection like the "French connection" but it was the "B-More MHP Connection"!! Back then, hustlers looked out for one another, had each other's backs for the most part. Looked out for another hustler's family when that hustler fell (was doing a bit); who does that today with this new generation of "selfish so called thugs who will slap your mother - set you up - give your sister a date rape drug? The predecessors taught us, we watched/ listened , learned via experience , we passed it along and it continued (predecessors are those living the lifestyle prior to you being introduced to it). I LOVED the lifestyle, I felt like I was made for it that is until it began to diminish my spirit / completely distort/ it stole all my hopes N dreams, it snatched family N friends from me. Even after surviving the horror of the lifestyle, it still me over 30 odd years to have a glimpse of reality and to recognize the life of INSANITY I had been such an intricate part of. Some of these kids are clowns, wanna be's, so lost they don't know who they are so they try to be "like you" or try to be "someone else / anyone else" and they die living a life of a false identity as opposed to striving to find out who they themselves really are. The game is not for "everyone"; if you're not made to handle it's consequences smdh you should get out NOW! Get out N live a good life, a better life, a different positive life!

I remember living at Lexington terrace projects white people was not allowed to walk through. I saw many who thought they was good to walk through and was shown differently. Also Ms. Goldy was a women who lived in 755 building that woman and Ms. Toni really helped me as a child. I felt hopeless, I honestly thought after standing by a girl who got shot in drive by that I was gonna die there, or be hooked on drugs like almost everyone else there. Thank God he have a plan for each and everyone of us.

More than 300 years ago, over 50 million Africans were abducted and sold into slavery. Many died on the way to America or the Caribbean.
Today, very few people know who they are related to, as families have been torn apart. When "slaves" had children, they were often sold on. I condemn this in the strongest possible terms and doubt that any reparation will ever be paid by the perpetrators.
Many surnames are an indication of the criminals who were in "possession" of this person.
Now cousins, uncles, and nephews shoot each other without knowing it. And who deserves it? The arms industry, the large corporations, the prison industry, and last but not least, the state and the elites created all this misery. That denies the poor decent housing and a good education. Not offering jobs and driving people further and further into poverty and gang crime. If you don't change that, it will never end. Even hip-hop stars like Jay Z don't change the situation of his brothers and sisters. It is very unfortunate and I am ashamed of the "whites" who caused this and are unwilling to change it but blame the black community for it. Haile Selassie and peace with you all
