Just watched a UA-cam video of Charlie Parr playing 817 Oakland Avenue with a normal capo on the 2nd fret and a partial capo on the fourth fret, now that would make a very interesting lesson. Keep the lessons flowing 👍
haha, i dont own a partial capo. Maybe i'll pay my 8yo to stand next to me the entire lesson and hold down the two frets! ;) i'll check the tune out. honestly i'm not at all familiar with parr's material. but the few requests i've gotten i've enjoyed.
@@MikesMusicMethod
Just found another video where he just plays it with a normal capo on the 2nd fret, this man is a legend, really popular here in Scotland 👍
Thanks much. I love the song. I never heard this song before nor heard of Charlie Parr. I downloaded the tab and donated some money for your time and effort. Cheers, from Wisconsin.
thanks, Will. Much appreciated, man. Where in WI? And yeah, honestly I'm learning a lot from this channel. tons of requests and recommendations of artists I havent heard of myself, Parr included!
Beloit, WI. it's right on the Wisconsin-Illinoise Stateline border, 15 min North of Rockford Illinois, and 45 min South of Madison, Wisconsin. Have a great day! Keep up the great work.@@MikesMusicMethod
So sweet! Thank you Mike
My pleasure!
Just recently found your lessons, and am thrilled! Measure by measure even my relatively low skill level can get a grip on it. 👍 I am determined to become a Travis picker.
My target tune is _Poor Howard_ by LeadBelly. Alonzo Garbonzo (Dennis Castanares) does a great version here on YT, which started my Travis picking quest.
Rob, thanks for the awesome note. Jump on one of the Thursday weekly zoom meetings and come chat with us! Yeah...check out my Travis Picking playlist. The first several are in order, and once you get to the 10th or so video you'll be in good shape! I'll check out the tune you mentioned. Good luck and God bless. Stay in touch and lmk how else I can help you on the journey.
@@MikesMusicMethod Thank you Mike! I'll start on those 10 videos right away. I find your positive and caring reply truly inspiring. I think you'll enjoy Alonzo/Dennis' music. I went to see him in person a few weeks ago, and his right hand technique just blew me way. He played my 2 favs; _Poor Howard_ and _People Annoy Me_ , and made it look so easy.
Amazing!! Could you do Over The Red Cedar too?:)
thanks, don't know that one!
hello! I know this is maybe slightly outside of your usual stuff, but i really think you should check out Madison Cunningham. I think her riffs are amazing, so unlike anything else out there atm. I'd absolutely kill for a break down of All I've Ever Known
I love the first two tracks on that Reveal record but then feel like the whole thing falls apart. Great voice and guitar playing, also great live from the video I've seen. I can look at All I've ever Known...consider sponsoring it bc you're right. It's not exactly the style this channel is aimed at
@@MikesMusicMethod oh no! I'd give it another try, a few songs grated me at first but it's come to be on of my all time faves now. And you're right, she's incredible live. I will consider it! Thanks alot
At this point I pretty much rely on you for new music recommendations. Thanks Mike! Any chance you can cover Pale November Dew by The Dead Tongues? I’ll try to put it on the queue with a donation when I get my next meager college student paycheck :)
hey! glad i can offer up some goodies. I wanna get to some Fionn Regan stuff as well. His first record is great. I'll check out this tune, i dont know the Dead Tongues. What are you studying in school? And you want a cover of this tune? or a tutorial and tab?
@@MikesMusicMethodI just listened to Fionn Regan for the first time because of your recommendation! Something I needed but didn’t know I needed for sure. The Underwood Typewriter is such a nice track!
I’m majoring in computer science with a minor in theology/religious studies. If my schedule will permit, I’m trying to concentrate on database programming.
And as for the song, a tutorial would be nice, but I think your voice would lend itself nicely to a cover as well! It’s in Open D and I think I have the basic shapes down, but the hammer-ons combined with the picking are proving a bit daunting to get into by myself! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you
Charlie Parr creates such interesting guitar scores. Seems like such a weird and talented guy. I still can't figure out how he did Rocky Raccoon on the 12 string.
As a side note, isn't travis picking addictive?? I keep heading off to try other styles and instruments, but I always end up right back at my acoustic, travis picking til my heart's content.
haha, yup. I cant stop travis picking either. what else do you play? and yeah, Parr seems like an interesting dude. I only know a few of his songs.
@@MikesMusicMethod Tried to make use of my electric guitar, but it usually feels like there's something missing. A band, for instance. Acoustic just seems to be a more complete instrument on its own . I've also been learning to play the accordion I found in my grandfather's storage unit. Whoever designed the accordion was probably not fully human.
Mike, new web site looks good,
thanks, man! how ya doing?
@@MikesMusicMethod doing good, still working on windy and warm, i think a couple more days and ill have it down. i should probably look what to play next. and mr gold mr mud, man, i can play it perfect at 85% speed but at 90% its terrible (approximate values for speed)
I am still at largo, one day Allegro ?
why are black people so tall? because their knee grows. ::silent room, uncomfortable coughs:: One of my favorite jokes back in like 7th grade, and probably still today. Maybe we can come up with one for "allegro"
Hi Mike! I would be so so happy, if you made a tutorial for "Demon host" from Timber Timbre. I swear to God, I pay you back as soon as my bank account is showing more than four figures!! It will happen one day ;) Greetings from Germany
send me an email, i'm on my phone and this will get lost in the youtube comments. in the meantime, here's my covering it a while back on my old channel: ua-cam.com/video/pgTSvSpi-h0/v-deo.html
