LONESOME DOVE! On Location with Tommy Lee Jones! Robert Duvall! Barry Corbin! Plus, Charlie Sheen!

- LONESOME DOVE is THE Classic Western. Period! It stands the test of time, can be watched over and over and over again and always seems fresh and exciting. The Pulitzer Prize winning novel needed the scope of a 4-night canvas instead of a 2 hour movie. Those four nights of western adventure with Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones and others in the all star cast turned LONESOME DOVE into a giant success. Everything about the production worked! The cast, the script, the direction, cinematography, music, costumes, period detail brought every moment to life. Veteran actor Barry Corbin made an indelible impression as the wandering Roscoe Brown. Barry has appeared in over 300 films and TV shows, including 110 episodes as one of the stars of NORTHERN EXPOSURE. He can do it all...and does! As a storyteller, he's one of the best. His memories of working on LONESOME DOVE are both thoughtful and hysterical. Not only has he worked multiple times with Tommy Lee Jones as an actor, Barry's been directed by the Oscar and Emmy winner, too, and shares stories of what it was like. He even had time to share some of the adventures he had during his time on ANGER MANAGEMENT with Charlie Sheen. On January 12, 2014, the always entertaining Barry Corbin was one of our first guests at A WORD ON WESTERNS' Tribute to LONESOME DOVE, taped in the Autry Museum restaurant! Thanks, Barry. This is the full interview done that day. Thanks again, Barry. We want more stories!!

Mr. Corbin, such a memorable actor. Thank you. My beautiful daughter who passed away in 2012 was a huge Fan of Lonesome Dove. Every time I see the DVD It brings back beautiful memories.
@kitakitzFarm I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m glad you enjoyed Mr. Corbin and Lonesome Dove with your daughter and are enjoying the memories.
Robert Duvall, and Tommy Lee Jones played the best parts of their career in Lonesome Dove.
I love Lonesome Dove. I’ve watched it a dozen times. Great performance by Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall and all the rest of the cast. Loved the interview with Mr Barry. Thanks Rob...
Thanks, Carol.
I loved this man in Northern Exposure.
I've never seen Barry Corbin give a bad acting job. Loved him in War Games. Lonesome Dove is a real classic, great cast and well acted acted and directed. Thanks, Rob.
NEED MORE OF THIS!
Thanks, Ron.
Urban Cowboy.
That's the one that put him on the map.
Northern Exposure
Barry Corbin is a great actor and has added his great talent to so many movies and shows . Lonesome Dove was one of the greatest westerns ever.
Ck out his participation in Northern Exposure... I've been a fan, for years.
" sure I can find texas Peach, but how do I find July?" Love that line.
WOW!! I have absolutely loved Mr. Corbin in every single thing I've seen him in!! What a wonderful man!!!
Thanks, Ricky. Hope to have Barry as a return guest. He's hysterical...and loaded with talent.
I could listen to Barry tell stories for 14 hours.
Barry Corbin was my favorite in Northern Exposure ! Quality work, thank you..
"Uncle Bob" summed up Tommy Lee perfectly: "he's a good guy, he's real smart, and he's got the social graces of a badger!" PERFECT!
Barry Corbin: One of my favorite actors who never fails to give a great performance. I liked him in the movie SHORT TIME, in WAR GAMES, and in an episode of COLUMBO. He could play heavies, light comedy, drama, and inspirational roles - he is a jack of all acting roles and a master of all of them too. I understand at 82 he still rides horses daily!
Barry is an underated legend
Here,here!!
I love Barrys line from War Games “I’d piss on a spark plug if I thought it do any good”
Lonesome Dove is my #1 favorite miniseries, and I don't expect anything will ever knock it from that position.
Agree. The Sacketts is #2 for me.
Absolutely without question Lonesome Dove is the best miniseries ever.
@@moofdoggmike Broken Trail comes in 2nd for me.
Probably watched it more than 50 times, myself.
@@furbabydaddy5604 amen, 50+ and counting... “it’s been quite a party...”
What a great story teller and funny guy! I could listen to him for 14 hours! Love Lonesome Dove and everyone in it!♥️
Barry Corbin is a true American treasure.
To this day, though, I still see him as Maurice, his character from Northern Exposure, despite the hundreds of other parts he's played on TV and in movies.
My wife and I were regular viewers of NORTHERN EXPOSURE and loved it. Haven't seen it since it went off the air. Gotta binge on them now. I'll bet they hold up quite well.
Barry Cirbinhas een i several of my favorite movies, Conagher, Crossfire Trail, War Games, and Lonesome Dove, and s great TV show, Northern Exposure. We very are very fortunate to have you bringing all these great western actirs and actresses, and their stories, Mr. Word. Keep them coming!!
Will do, Tom. Thanks.
Lonesome Dove! Love it! Taped it on my old vcr when it was on.
The greatest western ever made. Thanks Barry!
You bet
Thanks for another great talk. Barry Corbin is an authentic westerner.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mr. Munny.
They are passing from the scene. Even Forty Worth is changing because edify the foreign invasion, I mean the one from California and other places.
*RW you truly live a blessed life. Thanks for continuing to share with all of us, these wonderful interviews of my favorite actors.*
I loved Barry in Northern Exposure.
loved Barry in the very well written tv show Northern Exposure as well. great character actor.
Yeah....every time I see Him....Maurice comes up in my minds eye.....guy is a riot.....facial expressions that fit everything he says or does....that character ...Roscoe...in Lonesome Dove was so dumb and stupid in the novel....the
Series never really captured that.....probably directors choice...
Character actors are the most fun.
Another great actor you may not know you know. Awesome.
I’ve always loved Barry Corbin. One of the funniest actors around, and he’s a Texan.
He’s a Lubbock, Texan.
Barry's personality is just like I thought it would be. He is another great story teller. A funny, insightful interview, Rob.
Thanks, dave.
Barry is totally delightful. I've always enjoyed his acting.
What a treat to see and hear the dear workings of what it takes to make a great show.
Thanks, David. We agree!
Barry is a great actor & Lonsome Dove was a great western!
Always priceless little gems Rob !
You are doing something extremely special, nothing can ever replace these amazingly talented people Rob,
you are preserving their memories forever !
Thank you so much Rob !
Thanks, q.
Bless you Barry Corbin. You are fantastic in anything. I can't see you without thinking about the wonderful show Northern Exposure. Thank you!
Mr Corbin is a legend.
I have always enjoyed his work in tv and movies, he seems to add that special originality to every role he has portrayed.
Please have Barry Corbin back. He is always good. Nice interview. Thank you.
This is a great channel. I thoroughly enjoy western movies and I always will. Watched them all my life starting on Saturday mornings. Thank you for the interviews of these wonderful and treasured actors. They were and are very talented. Barry Corbin would be a director’s first choice. He’s a very gifted actor.
Glad you like them!
@@AWordonWesterns Yes I do. I would love to actually have a conversation with them myself. I know it’s not possible but these actors are very talented and I respect talent. Thank you again 😊
Cool. Barry Corbin does a couple of minutes of standup. I bet he is fun to listen to.
Thanks.
Thank you so much...every one,a gem.💎💎💎 I couldn’t tell you the first thing I saw Barry,in,but he had me with his smile and his talk.Bravo,Rob...you always give us the best.
I love Barry Corbin's accent. Everything I've ever seen him in he sounds the same so it must be his natural speech. He's one of those guys that's been in so much stuff you forget how much. I had forgotten about anger management. I thought he was perfect for the part in the ranch. When he was doing the closer I had forgotten about so many of the western themed shows. I was watching a Tom Selleck show recently and heard Corbin's voice and knew immediately who it was. Wonderful body of work he's done.
What a awesome actor and a great story teller lol
Hope we can get back to more of your events Rob.
Barry Corbin ! What a ' piece of work" ! Barry is an American Treasure.
Such a good movie one of my favorites
I loved him on Northern Exposure playing former astronaut Maurice Minnifield. Good times.
He was so popular in Roslyn, Wa where "Northern Exposure" was filmed, it was said he could easily have been elected mayor.
Hee hee. Barry's story about his dad. Thank you, another great one. I really look forward to these. Be well sir.
Glad you enjoyed it
"You can't stop what's coming. It ain't all waitin' on you; that's vanity,"
Barry Corbin was in my favorite TV series of all time, Northern Exposure". He was so good in that role.
Great video. Love Barry Corbin and his stories! Always entertaining!
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
Lonesome Dove holds permanent memory space on my dvr.
I always look forward to A Word on Westerns on Sunday mornings! It can truly make your day!👍😊
Thanks, slick.
That was fun to watch👍
Barry brings it on! Thanks, Mark.
Barry never got the credit he deserves. He was awesome in Northern Exposure!! I hope he shows up on the new four 6s spinoff of Yellowstone.
That was great Rob.
The first time I remember seeing Barry was in Six Pack with Kenny Rogers
My wife and I have always enjoyed Barry Corbin...from Northern Exposure several years ago, to a recent binge of The Closer.
I Love Barry Corbin. He did a good job on this one.
What a treasure and a phenomenal personality! Barry Corbin was great in Western genre and in Northern Exposure.
You've done it again, Rob. We thoroughly enjoy the stories from these greats in the entertainment industry. Your efforts are deeply and sincerely appreciated. Bless you!
Thank you, C. I'm gonna keep 'em comin'!
Wow, what a great interview. I bet he would make a top notch after dinner speaker. Now that I see the normal him, it just makes his acting roles even more impressive.
The greatest accolade I can give is, I thought that bumbling, simple, dumb sheriff was real! Now I see what an intelligent and accomplished actor he truly is. My hats off to you sir!
I’m a real fan of Mr. Corbin’s-from Northern Exposure to The Closer. He’s an absolute delight!
Absolutely love Barry Corbin!
Loved him on"The Ranch"
That was great. Boy Barry sure can tell a story. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks Rob for bringing all these great actors to the stage once again
♥️👍😊
Glad I can do it, Shelly. Thanks.
Barry Corbin reminds me of Ben Johnson
Barry Corben always adds value to every project he acts in. The only thing that stays the same is his unmistakable voice. If he does Shakespeare like an Englishmen that I would like to see and hear.
It's incredible!
If you come from Arkansas, Oklahoma, or East Texas that never goes away. That does not keep one from learning what I call NBC English. Funny thing, though, is that people from other places never get it right. Nor they really know the people. Glen Campbell when he was acting in t
True Grit was asked to read some lines but demurred. The director was from Southern California. Glen told him that if anyone living in that time and place had uttered those words to there other character that there would be no back and forth. The other gun would at least haul off and hit him and maybe with a board if that was handy.
I loved Barrys character in LD hes a gas!!!
Imo, Barry had one of the most profound lines in the history of film in "Wargames:"
"Just unplug the goddamn thing!"
Funny, Dale. Thanks.
I'd piss on a spark plug if I thought it'd do any good- from Wargames
I loved watching Barry Cobin and Sam Elliott on The Ranch too.
He's definitely an original.
Thanks, Randy. Barry is so entertaining and always filled with surprises...on screen and off.
Rest in Peace Wilford Brimley. (9/27/34- 8/1/20)
Well, not enough can be said about the movies talked about during this episode, but one of my all time favorite movies is "Urban Cowboy" and Mr. Corbin played a huge part in that movie as Uncle Bob. I will always love him for Uncle Bob alone.
I love this guy!
Me, too!!
Good video. I like Barry Corbin.
So do I!
Having grown up in the days of horse operas (Durango Kid, Roy & Gene, Whip Wilson, and many more) I was a regular for Saturday matinees of double features. Wonderful time to have been a boy. Thank you for the memories. ~ from Texas
Thanks, Richard. Do you remember his Dad as a Texas Senator?
A great raconteur! He's been in my three favorite series: "Lonesome Dove", "Northern Exposure", and "The Thorn Birds"! Also loved that scene with Tommy Lee Jones at the end of "No Country for Old Men".
And for comedy, don't forget Barry as a rich man in Any Which Way You Can. So many roles, always good.
My two favourties roles for Barry were in Conagher & Lonesome Dove. Priceless.
Love Barry and his acting!
WINNING!!!!!!! That's how I feel about another outstanding guest on your show Word, I'm so glad I subscribed to your channel.
I am so glad, too, John. You're getting the Full Western Spectrum!
GREAT interview Rob, as always! He was great in Lonesome Dove and Conagher as well, I watch Conagher twice a year! Much obliged for your constant posting of these, they're very interesting! Enjoy your Sunday!
Mr. Corbin is a great actor. I think no one else could have done better in Lonesome Dove or Monte Walsh, unless it was Arthur Hunnicut.
Great show! Great guest!
I enjoyed watching him as Maurice in Northern Exposure . It doesnt surprise me that He has some great stories as well.
Agreed, Ron. Thanks.
What a very talented man. May not be a headliner, and yet its so often his character that pulls the whole story together.
This was great. I love Barry. He had such an impact on that short part in No Country For Old Men. That part just made you want to know more about that old guy living out there the way he did. Lonesome Dove is a favorite, and so is Conagher. If Barry’s in a film we will be sure to watch.
Another great video, Rob. Thank you so much.
Absolutely loved this talk... I’m now going to binge-watch my (store bought) copy of Lonesome Dove! 😀👍
It's so good!
Excellent interview 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always loved him in everything he did. Thank you as always for these❤️👍‼️
Our pleasure, Mark.
Another great interview. Barry Corbin is always fantastic in any role he takes.
Someone once asked me what the best western I’ve ever seen was i immediately said “ lonesome dove “
Ya can't go wrong with an answer like that, sean. Thanks.
You sure have some of the finest people around on your show, I can’t wait for another one! Thank you 😊
Rob..."And that's the way it suits you"
Another good one rob . Barry turns up in the strangest places on screen with john Travolta urban cowboy sitting next to Harry Dean Stanton in dead and buried
Barry is a treasure!
Love that series watched it last weekend ! Great cast !
The best!
He was a great actor!!
Thanks, Charlotte. And still is.
Hey Rob, enjoyed watching and listening to Barry Corbin. That man has been in so many movies I have lost count. It’s easy to see why he has been a character actor, he is a character in real life. Thanks again from Down Under.
Thanks, Bob. We'll get Barry back whenever this virus makes it possible to return to the Autry for more shows.
This UA-cam channel is amazing. You're doing such a great work finding and inviting all these actors. There are no channel like this and I must say that this is one of my favourite channels on UA-cam. I learn new stuff in every video. So thanks from Sweden for the amazing content!
Wow, Sweden! Thanks, Ruthless. I'll keep 'em coming and you spread the word to your friends for A WORD ON WESTERNS!
@@AWordonWesterns I try to. But they dont get my fascination with westerns. haha
I have a friend in Fort Worth who has met him a couple of times . My first knowledge of who he was was when he was on northern exposure and loved him in that . Thinking to myself he'd make a great cowboy lol I'm a little slow. According to heresy he has property in Fort Worth and also did a great documentary on Fort Worth
I have a friend who grew up...still lives in Tucson. Used to see Lee Marvin regularly in a local hardware store they both frequented. Lee driving his pickup truck. Always nodded or said Hello..was very good at speaking to kids there with their Dad's on a Sat morning for bike parts et al.
Yep, Barry's a real cowboy! Lives in Fort Worth.
Best western ever
One of my favorite favorites
