I was towed by Phil once at Thunder Mountain Bike Park and he is to say the least a DH racer with the grace of a dirt jumper, he could spot lines and gather pop from seemingly nowhere, he had the ability to float thru the trail on both dirt and in the air. I don't think he realizes how skilled he actually is.
Survivng the riding is key. I'm at almost 40 Whistler park days this season, and the number of riders who we've lost to injury this season has dropped our numbers significantly. It's not an easy sport, that's for sure.
It gave me chills in a good way when you tire tapped that tree and the guy behind you started laughing. That whole run was awesome and you mentioned it but the guy in front of you has such a sick riding style.
I really like this video, thank you. Anyone can ride the smooth man-made sections of any trail centre, but the more natural sections, and steep rocky bits, really do look like a massive challenge to your skills.
Dude Phil! I love your videos! This has to be one of the coolest ones yet. I’ve seen all these trails so many times, but watching your perspective makes them even better! Also, what is up with the cliffhanger?? Haha hope you are good and can’t wait for the next one.
Great video Phil. You really make these trails look easy lol. What pressures do you run in your suspension and tires? Do you have a video about your suspension setup on this bike?
was gonna say there had to be a fall somewhere in all of that. Now the big hitters in the first leg were.. Blake Sampson, Brendon Fairclough and did I see Gee Atherton??
Are you formatting your cards between shoots? If not that would be my first guess as to why they got corrupted. Format and start each shoot with a fresh card.
I format religiously (every shoot starts with formatting), and import my footage the moment I get back to my room. I was going through the footage on my card as I imported it, so something must have happened when I was importing the footage to my extennal hard drive. Maybe I accidentally rattled the cable lose without noticing it 🤷🏼♂️ either way, it's a good learning lesson to double check they the footage actually imports before formatting the card.
So all I see is that you guys are mostly mountain goats and part bike riders, because that stuff is way past gnar! Plus anyway if you can hang with pros you ain’t too shabby yourself. I do have one question, so the bikes you ride look like they are on the small side. Are they?
How do you go that fast without your tires sliding out? I mean there is an obvious difference in skill level but I have great tires and I've tried several different PSI settings but once I go to push it a little harder my tires will start sliding out, ruining all confidence.
Flats is what I ride. I always stand by the idea of mastering flats before clipping in. Also it's easier to bail if something is goes wrong. That could save you from potential injuries which is important as you are starting out.
After the “GoPro effect” I just discovered the “Phil effect”, make everything smoother and easier than real life 😅 nice video 🔥
That transition just made it look like those guys disappeared 16:11
No editing, they just used the wizarding skills a dissaperated right in front of me!😂
@@SkillsWithPhil That's why that part of the trail is scary...Ghosts!
That was the coolest transition I've ever seen
Reminds me Initial D :D
WTF glitch in the matrix
Phil, you made these look easy! To everyone watching: they're a lot scarier than they look here!
Phil smashing DH lines on his enduro bike like it was nothing!

Dirt Merchant is much bigger than I expected it to be. I watched a ton of videos, and the step up still made me nervous as I came into it.
I would have hit 7 trees within the first minute 🌲
They look pretty damn scary here...
Imagine having Brendan Fairclough, ( or any of those riders ), as your tow-in on a run !! I'll just break my legs with a hammer and save time.
More like my collarbone but that’s just me lol
Confidence , skills with Phil and plenty of riding its what it takes . Great video 🤘
So true dude!

Attack the trail. Don't be along for the ride.
Knew that but needed the reminder/mental note.
Great riding as always!
What a Fantastic Vid! and doing a couple of laps with the Bren Dog must have been amazing!
Brendog, Blake Samson, Ben Deakins.
I'm legit jealous :D
Awesome riding!
"Warm up lap" killin me smalls. Phil - your content is awesome, keep up the good work.
Sick video got some gnarly rock rolls for sure! Thanks for putting me in the video🤘
Ayeee a shred with Deaks and The Dog !! Love the colab 3 of my favourite riders Phil Brendog and Deaks!!
Riding with Brendan and Blake 👍 that’s one hell of a pair of teachers right there
3:38 over and over again. "Drools profusely".
I really like this video, thank you. Anyone can ride the smooth man-made sections of any trail centre, but the more natural sections, and steep rocky bits, really do look like a massive challenge to your skills.
Hanging with heavyweights bro🤘
You have some major skills! It's cool to see GMBN guys on here too
The ride is good for sure but the edit on this video is amazing!! Good job!!
I think the guy at 15:29 said “are you Phil?” Lol
omg the Brendog follow-cam is soooooo good
Great video! I think the scariest part is how easy videos make this look and then you go try it in person before realizing you are in over your head
Phil should one hundred percent make mercy with safety third on it
Sweet riding. You make that look easy.
rad! absolutely sending it! i can only dream of going there and riding like you XD
I am glad you are making videos again! Missed watching!
Blake in tha house!!! Awesome vid mate! 👊😀
Here comes Phil with Skills! You're the best! :)

Hang around the British dudes for a few hours and suddenly you start saying "proper" a lot. :) Love it.
I've been saying propper for a long time, though my use of legend, and quality has certainty increased.
Unbelievable.... Such an awesome video!
After watching this video is has truly shown me how much smaller the Go Pro makes jumps and downhill sections look. Nice work !
It really is. I'm fully aware of the GoPro effect, and it still catches me off guard sometimes.
Talk about heavy hitters, damn. What a crew.

was gonna say there had to be a fall somewhere in all of that. Now the big hitters in the first leg were.. Blake Sampson, Brendon Fairclough and did I see Gee Atherton??
Yeah, that was Gee, lot's of UK accents!
Unless part 2 and 3 are "How to send Whistler on crutches" I'm going to assume he was okay after that fall at the end. ;-)
GT my fav brand = subbed
Your vids are the best Phil
Great video and wonderful, cool music. Top stuff as usual, well done Phil. Ciao Gaetano
Thanks GR!
I cant get enough Whistler, hope to some day get chance to ride there 🤙 Great vid like always 💎💎
those jumps are terrifying
Still laughing, cause I saw Blake from GMBN the other day, saying something like: “These guys are too much for a warm-up!“ 😂😂😂
Suffered several sprains watching this.

So sick!
Fair cluff 😉🤘🏼
proper vid!!
Just insane!
his brakes are like🔥
You should do the new jump line at thunder mountain
12:08 jesse melamed did it at ews( not sure but on one of his video he hits a feature that really looks like this one)
That trail was in the EWS so Thera a good chance
Is it just me or is every square foot of whistler awesome?
So all I see is that you guys are mostly mountain goats and part bike riders, because that stuff is way past gnar! Plus anyway if you can hang with pros you ain’t too shabby yourself. I do have one question, so the bikes you ride look like they are on the small side. Are they?
0:13 that dude is wearing a #GMBN jersey
That's Blake Samson, one of the hosts 😉
@@SkillsWithPhil Hi, love your vids keep up the good work and thanks so much for replying
10:21 sounded like he had a brittish accent and said ”oi fokin mitten”
Great vid.
Crash at the end 😳
I noticed that following better riders really accelerates your progression.
6:11 They just disappeared !
You make scary shit seem so effortless even when you're "stiff: haha, its fucking crazy!
THE CLIFFHANGER!
Was he riding with Blake Sampson from gmbn?
This guys facial hair is definitely the scariest feature on the mountain
oi think i saw blake samson nice!
Sure did. You'll see more of him in one of the next videos!
How do you go that fast without your tires sliding out? I mean there is an obvious difference in skill level but I have great tires and I've tried several different PSI settings but once I go to push it a little harder my tires will start sliding out, ruining all confidence.
Good stuff as always though I wish you were able to make the ews.
Part one of three that's what I like to here
Are you riding with blake from GMBN?
Even with the GoPro effect this looks scary!
Hi. What body protector do you use? Greetings from Slovakia.
More please.
Was that Blake Samson from GMBN on the red bike?
Can u do technical trails on a hardtail?
That GT tho
16:12 ??? Where do the two people go
I saw the first 10 seconds of the video and my thought was, yeah I could probably make it a foot without dying.
How are there not 50 ambulances on standby?
At the end of the video 18:30. Is there a name for that drop? I know it’s on Ride Don’t Slide but didn’t see the name of that particular feature.
Me to!
Phil, I am surprised that GT does not have a downhill bike in its lineup. Weird.
They do, I just like trail/enduro bikes more. They're more versatile.
@@SkillsWithPhil ok that makes sense. I really liked the footage with Eric. Sweet.
you're the best
Just wow, great content, I can only imagine what was in the corrupt files.
The footage from the rest of the week more than made up for it. 👍
"Is that Phil Kmetz?!?!?!"
When were you in Whistler because i just got back from Whistler 2 days ago
me and 2 of my other buddies have every once in awhile file corruption issues with our hero 7. I guess you too :\
wtf lmao.
Kid: ayy you got a flat.
Phil: we're going anyway.
Can you do some Squamish runs. Sauerkraut!
Yeah, Remy's video of this trail was insane.
16:11 where does the people in front of him go?
Next video: Crabapple Hits!
go exactly to 16 minutes and watch the hip jump. the riders dissapear in thin air like ghost
Phil: this is junkie
Phil +5 seconds: goes off the track to add more junkiness
LUV UR VIDS PHIL
0:38 what trail?
Some serious GoPro effect
last 9 seconds, LOL
Great
6:12 please tell me how they disappeared? i’m lost
16:12... I watched it over a few times but still have the same question lol
:) awesome!
Bro I love u so freaking much
HOOLIGANS!!!!!
Did my man just disappear at 16:12
yo! skills do you ride clipless? or flats? what do you recommend?
Flats is what I ride. I always stand by the idea of mastering flats before clipping in. Also it's easier to bail if something is goes wrong. That could save you from potential injuries which is important as you are starting out.
@@SkillsWithPhil thanks man !!
