Throngs of protesters lined Irvine streets, peacefully yelling their sentiments after President Joe Biden landed at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, on Friday, October 14, 2022, to speak at Irvine Valley College, Community College, on behalf of lowering costs for Americans via the Inflation Reduction Act he sponsored and signed into law recently.
Diverse groups were represented, including pro- and anti-Trump, pro- and anti-Biden, mid-term 2022 and 2024 election exhortations, support for Social Security increases, reproductive rights, and other hot-button issues.
There was also a large contingent of Iranian regime-change supporters, some of whom caravaned from San Diego, whose themes encompassed pro-Iranian-democracy and equal rights for Persian women in particular.
They vocally invoked the memories of recent young Iranian martyrs all along the streets around the IVC campus.
Mahsa Amini, 22, was murdered by Iranian Islamic zealots last month while in police custody for alleged insufficient hijab coverage of her head. (The hijab is a government-mandated Islamic fundamentalist modesty/chastity head covering, required to be publicly worn by women.)
Sixteen-year-old Abolfazi Adinezadeh - last week, and 16-year-old Nika Shakarami - last month, were also cited in today's protests as representing Iranian youth who lost their lives during the escalating ongoing anti-clerical/government protests in Iran while advocating for Persian freedom/democracy.
In his speech today, President Biden thanked them for their support and for "speaking out" peacefully.
The scene was remarkable, in part, because of the voluntary peacefulness of the diverse demonstrators' factions represented in close proximity to each other on campus and lining the area streets - a real testament to America's protection of rights to nonviolent public assembly and protest.
Democracy was alive and thriving in Irvine, California today.

In 1979 they installed Ayatollah Khomeini when they overthrew the Shah in Iran.
Interesting how that came full circle. A family friend of ours was Captain of Beverly Hills Police Dept when the US installed the Shah's mother at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The LA and Beverly Hills police department were under siege by the Iranian students at UCLA. The Iranian students threw molotav cocktails and injured many officers because they wanted to get to her and kill her.
Now, they are protesting for the freedom OF Iranians for what they protested FOR in the US and Iran over 40 years ago. Make up your minds.
