As someone who who has watched many stories about this type of stuff happen the person with the gun is usually not an idiot so if they're in a public place and they start screaming you really think they're just going to start shooting them? No they're going to run for their vehicle and get out of there and not waste time. Whatever that gun can do to you is nothing compared to what human trafficking can be like. If these people would just stop being scared of guns and actually bought them and own them (that's why America has the second amendment right) and she would have had a gun to defend herself. Law abiding citizens with guns saves lives, so the more guns we can get into their hands the better.
