And also again so true...right band at wrong time. Like Transvision Vamp, Shakespear's Sister and Fuzzbox before them in the early/mid 90's they appeared in the wrong era, it was all either boybands, Britpop or corporate rock like Bon Jovi and punk girl bands were on the way out. Few years later though...boom! Girl bands (not Grrrrl bands tho) were everywhere...Spice Girls...B*Witched...All Saints...but they were all, "Hi, we're so sweet and R n B..." Shampoo were tougher than that lot!
@stuartshame I've always thought they were just kind of the right band at the wrong time. People had areally hard time trying to position them as either 'pop' or 'indie' and their audience in this country was pretty niche. It's a shame but I reckon they might do a lot better if they were releasing now..
@stuartshame re: their success in general - I'm not sure how much they were let down by their record company, the first two albums got a pretty decent amount of promotion especially considering they came up through the NME etc first.
@stuartshame The fact that Absolute Shampoo is completely unavailable now is such a crime. So many people that like them have never even heard it. Just thinking about what else must be rattling around the archives makes me weep :-(
@marilynshampoo The second - or middle - album from Shampoo is in my view the best, but "Absolute Shampoo" rocks because it is so different from the first two...accoustic and electro rather than all out pop punk But still fabulous and shows that Shampoo did it themselves and weren't controlled. Even Halliwell admitted she nicked "Girl Power" from them!.
I agree with all your comments 100%! When "Trouble" came out I thought, "Oh what's this, it's quite good" but then the b sides...wow! "School Is Boring" is an anthem! And then "We Are Shampoo"...wow! It just irks that Jacqui and Carrie are 100 times better than GaGa or N-Dubz or whatever is out there now and yet they sank so quickly.
@marilynshampoo Thank heavens! Someone agrees with me! Wasn't this the first track off of "Shampoo or Nothing" in Japan in '95? I cannot believe that the bods at Food/EMI decided against releasing it over here or anywhere else for that matter? It was a Japan only release. Shampoo were so fab and wonderful but they were let down and mishandled by their record company. Shame the brill "Absolute Shampoo" faded fast as well...
Why oh why wasn't this released in the UK as the second single from "Shampoo Or Nothing"/"Girl Power" rather than the awful "I Know What Boys Like" which is the worst track on that LP!? The mind boggles... This is such a great song and better video!
They are supposed to be creepy, they don't want to go to heablben all they want is...warpaint. All war is scary, you can be a model and be the winner of most beautifu magazinel cover, well you go to war,the smiles, the laughter and knowledge of cosmetic for beauty is erased and replaced by frowns, snarls and knowledge of using weapons is now set. Just the transition is creepy really, but damn right at the same time. Take xare
man I cant believe I never heard this one. im an old dude so I didnt grow up listening to them, just discovered last year. not a big fan of the super pop stuff, I mean I like some of it like "viva mega babes" it was cute. but this stuff really rocks. im seeing in the comments this album wasnt released in the UK? I cant find it anywhere in the U.S. or U.K. if anyone knows where I can buy it I would appreciate it. Last I saw the two of them posed for a magazine story updating with their current lives. sounds like theyre both married and happy. both look the same, some aging of course. so glad they got to experience that time though. they should've been much bigger than they were but maybe that a good thing. they burned out bright and went on to live normal lives.
The album is called Girl Power, it was their second album and did have a standard UK release. I'm not sure how available it is now though but I'm pretty sure you could pick it up on ebay at least. They had a third album called Absolute Shampoo which didn't get a UK release sadly and was, I believe a digital release only elsewhere. Hope that helps!
@@marilynshampoo hey thanks so much for the reply. ill see if I can source "absolute shampoo" from somewhere. im good at finding stuff like that. thank you for sharing these vids on your channel.

If you like the less poppy songs you check out Bouffant Headbutt, Blisters and Bruises and some of the early bsides.
