I need to do mine. It's been a year, but only like 2000 miles.
I do believe it's one year or 15 to 20000 miles something like that. I say twice a year is overkill let alone four times. Unless you're constantly on the dirt road.
AEM's own website shows 50K mi or based on your driving environment.
You should NOT use K&N Power Kleen on this filter. This is a synthetic filter and only K&N Synthetic cleaner or AEM Dryflow cleaner should be used. That spray could damage you filter over time. Degreasers should be avoided at all cost
Good to know. Thanks.
they AEM dry flow cleaner as sodium laurel sulfate as the active ingredient for degreaser - same as DAWN soap.
OMG, you say to be gentle with the water hose... and then you go and spray it really hard from up close, haha Also, you are using K&N cleaner... is that what we are meant to use? If we don't have K&N how is this vid useful?
Do you prefer Aem than KN? The performance results is better?
I prefer the AEM. It is a dry filter so you don’t have to spray an oil on the filter. There have been complaints and issues of people using K&N and the oil getting sucked into the engine. It may be due to misuse of the oil. Applying too much etc. so far after using both. I prefer the AEM dry filter.
I haven't cleaned mine yet been in my truck for almost 3 years guess I better after this saying twice a year
So what the biggest advantage of using an AEM over a stock filter?
That you can clean it and reuse it.
More airflow as it gathers dust
spending more money. 3 oe 'paper' filters for 1 dry filter. so, at a minimum, it will take you 3 yrs to to get your roi back (plus the cost of cleaner). but what about when the dry filter is drying?? yep, handy to keep an oe 'paper' filter on hand so you can drive if necessary. It sounds nice about not clogging up a landfill w/air filters...but have you really seen what ppl throw away?? your 'paper' air filter is tiny in comparison, super-tiny.
So no oil
Correct. No oil.
In my testing a clean oem paper filter had less restriction than the aem dry
I couldn’t find your video. All the test I’ve seen say AEM flows better than a normal filter with only a tiny hit to how much it filters, better than K&N.
That seams like TOO much water pressure or velocity, hitting the filter media... & maybe a not so harsh cleaner, for the DRY filter element
Nah, the DRYFLOW AEM filters are hydrophobic and water just passes easily through the filter material as you can clearly see in the video, the water doesn't pool up inside the filter even for a moment, it just passes through, this also means it dries quickly too
@@TheUchihasparkyOn a DRY FILTER ELEMENT.. If water flows through with ease, so will fine dirt & dust... That's why K&N & other types of cleanable air filters use an oil to catch the fine dirt & dust.. I had this DRY cleanable element on, a Chevy truck & @ 1500 miles i noticed, FINE DIRT build up from the A/F clean side, all the way to the Throttle Body, that's not good... So now I'am using a factory type replaceable element now, for that truck.... Only good thing out of using a Dry re-clean-able element now, is knowing it's not as good as an OEM factory type air filter.... Oh i use, K&N on 2 other trucks, & 1 motorcycle, & all other vehicles get, factory type air filters...
Do only cleaning not use a oil? Damn... Its the same as kn
It appears the same, but from what I read the reason this one doesnt need oil is that the filter is made with small enough holes to allow air but block the dust/debris. The KN is made a little looser, with not such a tight mesh, so the oil fills in the mesh and helps grab dust and dirt from going through the filter. But no oil goes on the AEM and from the tests, it appears that the AEM is a far superior product. I recommend them.
why not sun dry it?
I was told leaving it in the direct sun can be damaging to the filter.
Wash with warm soapy water, Then lightly rinse with water is all you need, let dry, good to go. 👍
Thanks. Generally I just use the hose but next time I’ll try the wash sink with warm water. Take care.
Where do you get that spray?
It was some K&N air filter cleaner. I think you can get it at Autozone or similar auto parts stores. Of course you could get it off amazon. Hope this helps.
It does, thank you! 😁
Just use detergent. I'm srs
Amazon sell AEM filter cleaner for that filter.
Thanks!
