If you liked this then You MUST WATCH ' MANHUNTER'... The original Hannibal Lechter movie about the detective who CAUGHT Lechter being asked to come out of retirement to catch another serial Killer. Stars William Petersen and Brian Cox as Dr. Lechter.. INCREDIBLE visuals and GREAT soundtrack with an extra creepy performance by Tom Noonan as "The tooth Fairy"...

@@yourthaiguy I'd recommend watching BOTH Manhunter and Red Dragon. Both based on the same book but with different directors and essentially making them very different movies. Manhunter was made by Michael Mann, creator of Miami Vice in the mid 80's, while Red Dragon came much later and directed by Brett Ratner, and feels much more like SotL.

    - Only two other movies have won the Top Five Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Foster), Best Director (Jonathan Demme), and Best Screenplay (Ted Tally) like Silence did...It Happened One Night (1934) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). It was the first horror film to win Best Picture.
    - Anthony Hopkins based the voice for Lecter on the voice of Douglas Rain, the voice of the HAL 9000 computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the cadences of writer Truman Capote (In Cold Blood, Breakfast At Tiffany's). It was commonly thought for a long time, that he based the voice on Katherine Hepburn, the screen legend who played Hopkin's mother in the film The Lion In Winter, but Hopkins refuted this.
    - Jodie Foster was so terrified of Anthony Hopkins that they never spoke as Jodie and Tony, only Clarice and Lecter during filming. However, during the pandemic, the two talked as themselves during a Variety Actors On Actors video where they shared memories of filming. Hopkins also shared that he was intimidated by Foster because she had just won her first Oscar. The video is charming and worth a watch.
    - Hopkins would play Lecter two more times in Hannibal (directed by Ridley Scott with Julianne Moore as Clarice) and Red Dragon (directed by Brett Ratner). Both are based on novels by Thomas Harris. Hannibal was a direct sequel and Red Dragon was a prequel. Red Dragon had been filmed previously in the 1980s as Manhunter and Brian Cox played Lector (spelled Lektor in the credits).
    - This was Foster's second Oscar for Best Actress, the first was for The Accused a few years previously.

Thanks for the great reaction! Brilliant movie, i still think about Lecter's explanation of the butterfly symbology going from a cacoon and changing into something beautiful like a butterfly, which suggested an explanation for his transwxualism. Buffalo Bill loathed his identity and seemed to want to change into a woman by cross dressing with womans skin and clothes. But in the end scene he actually resembles a moth with his night vision googles and can then see in the dark like moths can. He truly loved and cared for his moths vs killing and dismemebering the women he captured, makes me wonder what he was really trying to identify with...

I prefer psychological horror movies rather than the common jump scare movies. Jump scares are a cheap way to make an audience on edge. It takes great writing and acting to get the viewer on the edge of their seat without resorting to that. This movie will forever be a classic.

Such a great movie with such little twists and such. "Hannibal" the sequel is great, too, but not as great as this one was. Hopkins returns, but Starling is played by, gah! cant recall, someone else! ALL the "Hannibal" books by Thomas Harris are exquisitely written! He takes his time to write his novels, and it shows! Gems, every one of them!

Jack Crawford made a mistake that almost cost Clarice her life. Although the entomologists had said Buffalo Bill's moths had been bred from eggs imported from Asia, Crawford was tracing the route of a package of caterpillars imported from Suriname -- a country in South America. So while Crawford and his men were breaking into a house in Calumet City, Illinois, Clarice was in Buffalo Bill's house in southern Ohio, alone.

Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are something else when it comes to acting! Not a horror, but Contact (1997) is great if you haven't watched it and want to see more of Foster. As for horrors, The Ring 1 and 2 (2002 and 2005), The Conjuring 1 and 2 (2013 and 2016), Candyman 1 and 2 (1992 and 1995) are popular good ones. I'm also a big fan of the Japanese horror Dark Water (2002). It starts very slow but become increasingly more disturbing as it progresses, leading up to a great ending.

If you enjoyed this, I'd highly recommend the TV series "Millennium" from the late 90's. Also an investigative saga centering on psychological cases, but inspired by prophetic aspects of the coming of the year 2000. Many of the episodes are cut from the same cloth as this movie. Others have a supernatural slant. The main character is an ex-FBI profiler played by the incredible Lance Henriksen. They made three seasons and one crossover episode with "The X-Files".

Your reviews are great. I like that you’re not skittish and are fully invested in the movie. Funny to see you kinda cheering for Lecter. Though he’s creepy and scary, he made for such a fascinating character, and of course, the acting was amazing, Love watching Hopkins in anything. I guess because he’s on Clarice’s side, we kinda hope for him to act somewhat righteously. Anyway, I’ve seen a lot of your videos lately, and they are always good. The exact wording is "appearing on screen for little more than 16 minutes" which reasonable people take as how long he's in the movie for, and by my DVD copy that translates to 34 minutes 54 seconds including voice time as he enters then exits each of the ten scenes he is in.
What makes the figure believable to be fair, other than how unfair it is to Hopkins by having reputable sites blindly repeat it without checking, is that Hannibal is completely absent for extended periods of the movie twice, once for almost 20 minutes and another for over 25 minutes. Also his first appearance isn't until almost 12 minutes in.
Here's the breakdown from my DVD giving start - end timestamps = duration (running total):
      11:55 - 18:38 = 6:43 (6:43) "May I see your credentials?"
      26:54 - 30:20 = 3:26 (10:09) "Your bleeding has stopped."
      50:03 - 55:20 = 5:17 (15:26) "Quid pro quo"
      57:17 - 58:20 = 1:03 (16:29) "His first name is Louis"
      58:49 - 1:02:10 = 3:21 (19:50) "Where will it tickle you?"
      1:04:03 - 1:10:45 = 6:42 (26:32) "Good evening, Clarice."
      1:11:23 - 1:15:10 = 3:47 (30:19) "Mind the drawings please."
      1:16:52 - 1:19:31 = 2:39 (32:58) "Talk to him!"
      1:21:13 - 1:21:33 = 0:20 (33:18) "Pulse 84."
      1:47:26 - 1:49:02 = 1:36 (34:54) "I'm having an old friend for dinner."

Lecter is such an amazing character. I love that he's in jail for killing "innocent" people, simply because they are innocent of murder. That doesn't automatically make them good people, so it's unfair to say that he kills indiscriminately. He demonstrates psychotic behavior, but to what extent is he truly "crazy" or "evil"? And how awesome is it that he can mess with our heads just by watching him on screen? The books are much better imo, but please continue with Red Dragon and Hannibal (prequel and sequel). Juliane Moore plays Clarice in Hannibal, but Anthony Hopkins is in all three. If you're looking for something a little scarier you should watch John Carpenter's The Thing if you haven't seen it. One of my favorite horror classics.

Great reaction! Would ❤ to see you react to Hannibal the show. So well-written and acted, and gorgeous.

This is the movie I took my first date to see way back in the day. She enjoyed it. I was too nervous to even remember it.

You should watch Devil's Advocate for Halloween- It's another one you'll want to go in blind for.
I don't get why I never see anyone reacting to it- It's got Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves in it, it was popular back in its day, and nothing in it has aged particularly badly- Is there a copyright problem or something?

Not really a horror movie. It’s more a psychological thriller. It won nearly every major Oscar that year. Both Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins won best actors. I remember the packed theater and the reactions like it was yesterday. The collective groan on the Miggs scene. Some guy asked the audience if anyone wanted his popcorn cuz he said he couldn’t eat it now. Everyone got a good laugh. lol.

Lambs are scarier than ducks. Otherwise they movie would have been called _The Silence of the Ducks_

Bad Moon (1996) is an awesome and terrifing werewolf movie, where the hero of the story is germán shepard name Thor.
