    I'd also like to add on the topic of PTSD. For these kids and young adults their PTSD will be SO MUCH WORSE than that of a soldier overseas. They did a study on British soldiers in Northern Ireland during the height of the troubles. When you experience violence in a foreign land, with foreign people, you get to come home. What they found that was when your PTSD happens at home, with your people in your own home, you don't get to go home.

    • @westington1
      @westington1 6 місяців тому +19

      I grew up in Derry in N.Ireland and, after variously terrible ways of expressing trauma when I was younger, became a psychotherapist in my early 30’s.
      The amount of trauma in my family and wider community is very prevalent. It doesn’t just exist within the generations that lived through it, the tentacles spread out like a disease.
      There was already existing trauma from the occupation in Ireland anyway, and then more pronounced again in the Irish trapped in the apartheid state of the north.
      Basically yeh, that study is very accurate and visible still; Scars take a long time to heal in communities. It’s generational trauma

      the disconnection is real. i feel like some of the people experiencing PTSD in their daily life have their struggles downplayed. i had my own personal PTSD pop up way later in mid life and took me for a twirl. the ptsd hits different when its triggered by people who have always loved you.

      I'm a combat vet but I don't have a ptsd diagnosis. I did do route clearance (finding IEDS) though and promise you the terror of being blown up is far worse than living in the projects. I deployed with plenty of men from the worst ghettos in America, not one would tell you being home was more traumatic. Those are the opinions I value. Not some schmuck who has never seen either situations study.

    This is the video of these streets I was hoping to one day see. Man, I know ppl who have been in a situation before, and if ppl knew they'd never see my friends hearts. All the news and police wanna portray is that anyone from this area be violent and monsters...but we all know that aint it; you show it how it needed to be shown. When you brought those nuggies back, I couldn't have smiled bigger. I wanna know what the sauce be... lol. But you know all the words to their songs, and you showed a side that nobody else be showing... and that's what is human man. We're all people, and we're all one bad situation away from having the same ptsd. Those fireworks were dope, and the freestyles and all...those beats were the only fires that I saw killing anything. Dope shit.
