You know, the last bit you said about him with this Buddhist look, this is what I saw in him in one and only. Also the original novel reflected that quality of the character. This was this quality in his OAO character that really touched me. I think from what I have seen in him as a person, he is reaching into that sense of compassion within himself. A very kind and generous person which is also reflected in his looks. Apparently, ZSC’s character really moved him deeply. So he definitely carries some of that as a person.

I've just discovered this actor recently, so really appreciate this video (I think you have decided not to do any more, but, for what is worth, I really enjoy them.) I really, really like him, he's a good actor and has a certain bearing. Don't quite seems like Buddha to me, but he certainly has a calm, gentle, beautiful demeanour which is extremely attractive. He can also look quite sour.. Lol. His singing is lovely, but his speaking voice is amazing, really beautiful. Quite an interesting character, and lucky to be so talented. I'm glad he can enjoy his own private life, and kudos to him for managing this difficult balance. So enjoying watching his dramas now. Thank you. Edited to add: I forgot to mention his smile. Many actors have beautiful smiles, but Ren Jialun's is truly shining.
Ahahahaha now that you’ve compared Jialun to Budda, I will never be able to get that out of my head. And yes, I completely agree that he looks very gentle/warm/peaceful and has the kind of “merciful” Budda eyes😂 This could very well be 相由心生 seeing just how grounded and chill he is in real life.
Can’t wait! I became a fan of his when watching “under the power”. I must confess that my initial reaction was that he wasn’t handsome enough to be ML...maybe more like a secretary /assistant to the lead (Cen Fu’s role) but boy was I wrong! As the drama progressed, he was more handsome with his sly crooked smile! I also love whenever Jin Xia complements him, and he says “you just found out ?” 😏
I became a fan of his after “Under the power” too. But I’ve already liked him after seeing the trailer and have no problem seeing him as the ML. Mind you, I’ve never watch any of his or Seven Tan’s series before. But I do agree that majority like you and me, fell for his charms and see him more and more handsome as the series progresses. 9:22 I also love that theme song! Back then I heard it and was very surprised at how good his vocal techniques are (I did some vocal training myself). Usually I just can’t stand those theme songs sang by actors/actresses in China. They tend to do such a poor job. Jialun really did 200% better than most of the other actors out there. You could immediately tell that he was professionally trained and pretty talented at singing.

I never knew that there is something like C-Dramas. Yt recommended me a strange video with a lot of people and someone in a pool (the taming scene in the blue whisper) three weeks ago. At first I was fascinated from the girl - Dilireba. Two episodes into the drama I couldn’t take my eyes from Ren Jialun. I haven’t seen something else with him - yet. In this drama he is absolutely mesmerizing. His eyes, his expressions. He even can’t play his best card in the blue whisper: Chang Yi rarely smiles. I would guess he is captivating in his other dramas too. There must be a reason why he is getting a lot of jobs although he is married (seems to be a big no go for actors in china).

The Chinese culture is so different from mine, and I find it fascinating. His acting is good too in my opinion, his gaze, his facial expression tell the audience the emotions of the character. I liked this format. You are such a great narrator! I had zero interest in Chinese opera but I watched all you made on it cause you made it so interesting and engaging. Without overwhelming us with pictures, clips, music that would, in the end, take away from the story telling.
I started watching this series of yours just yesterday and honestly, we need more of this pure, unbiased and factual commentary on an actor regardless of their background. Decided to comment down on this video even though I've already watched your videos on Qin Hao (whom I've recently just discovered bc of Tomb of the sea) and Hu Ge as it is about an actor who doesn't come from a film school background and was once an idol cause as you're aware of, idol turned actors aren't very well received and are often stigmatized as liuliangs in the industry so it was refreshing to see such a well-intended and unprejudiced commentary of an actor from that kind of background. An actor, who's also an idol turned actor, that I would like to see being included in this series in the future is Zhang Yixing/Lay Zhang. I've just recently finished going through his filmography and even though he hasn't been in a lot of stuff (compared to a regular actor), the improvement in his acting in just a span of 5 years is something that I think is worth talking about, especially when you take into consideration that he is also working as an idol, dancer, singer, and music producer. His most recent performance in the drama Empress of the Ming got him quite a bit of critical recognition as an actor and he was even praised by a well-known history professor for his portrayal of the Ming Emperor Yingzhong, Zhu Qizhen. He has two highly anticipated dramas this year that are going to air soon, Daylight Entertainment's Challenges at Midlife and Tencent's Crime Crackdown so I can't wait to hear your thoughts on them.
Maybe a recommendation for future videos, do a combo of actors/actresses that everyone knows and actors/actors that you think are underrated or that you think more people should check out....maybe recommend some of their dramas at the end of the video?

I also started to follow his work after Under the Power. I saw him in Detective Dee and the Destiny of White Snake. I wasn’t that impressed. I didn’t even think he was handsome. In fact I couldn’t even remember him. But in Under the Power, his performance was so good that I started to see that he is actually good-looking.
That was because in the previous dramas he was so thin and the makeup was also not very attractive. He began to gain weight in Under the power and by the time finishing the drama he was freaked out on his weight haha. He was so afraid of getting fat. what a nice series! i haven't watched a lot of his works but always feel that he's very noticeable. i don't find him traditionally attractive, but i'm not sure if its his eyes, lips or general facial expression, but he has "something". he has a youthful face but his presence feels grounded and intelligent, electrifying even at times. i don't know what to call this in English, perhaps, it's just his particular temperament that's been honed by so much life experiences that make him different from people his age.

Wow...am one of those people that become a fan of him, actually not only Allen. I loved the actresss too Seven, even I learned her name and Allen after Under The Power. I didnt know them before UTP, and when the drama ended, I fell in a hole until these days am not able to get out. Then I started to search about them and realised that they arent new in the industry, both have a trayectory, both havent connectios, both are quiet in their personal lives. He is married and I respect him more because he is in this industry due to his own talent. I had zero interest in Chinese opera but I watched all you made on it cause you made it so interesting and engaging. Without overwhelming us with pictures, clips, music that would, in the end, take away from the story telling.
I started watching this series of yours just yesterday and honestly, we need more of this pure, unbiased and factual commentary on an actor regardless of their background. Decided to comment down on this video even though I've already watched your videos on Qin Hao (whom I've recently just discovered bc of Tomb of the sea) and Hu Ge as it is about an actor who doesn't come from a film school background and was once an idol cause as you're aware of, idol turned actors aren't very well received and are often stigmatized as liuliangs in the industry so it was refreshing to see such a well-intended and unprejudiced commentary of an actor from that kind of background. An actor, who's also an idol turned actor, that I would like to see being included in this series in the future is Zhang Yixing/Lay Zhang. I've just recently finished going through his filmography and even though he hasn't been in a lot of stuff (compared to a regular actor), the improvement in his acting in just a span of 5 years is something that I think is worth talking about, especially when you take into consideration that he is also working as an idol, dancer, singer, and music producer. His most recent performance in the drama Empress of the Ming got him quite a bit of critical recognition as an actor and he was even praised by a well-known history professor for his portrayal of the Ming Emperor Yingzhong, Zhu Qizhen. He has two highly anticipated dramas this year that are going to air soon, Daylight Entertainment's Challenges at Midlife and Tencent's Crime Crackdown so I can't wait to hear your thoughts on them.
Maybe a recommendation for future videos, do a combo of actors/actresses that everyone knows and actors/actors that you think are underrated or that you think more people should check out....maybe recommend some of their dramas at the end of the video?

I also started to follow his work after Under the Power. I saw him in Detective Dee and the Destiny of White Snake. I wasn’t that impressed. I didn’t even think he was handsome. In fact I couldn’t even remember him. But in Under the Power, his performance was so good that I started to see that he is actually good-looking.
That was because in the previous dramas he was so thin and the makeup was also not very attractive. He began to gain weight in Under the power and by the time finishing the drama he was freaked out on his weight haha. He was so afraid of getting fat. Seven Tan commented on that once in their interview

I completely agree with your assessment just not with the last comment on the Budha. haha I think he is a very good looking and extremely talented actor, given he had no formal acting education, but he needs the right script and the environment to shine (i.e. Under the Power vs. Autumn Cicada are just heaven and earth apart...).

what a nice series! i haven't watched a lot of his works but always feel that he's very noticeable. i don't find him traditionally attractive, but i'm not sure if its his eyes, lips or general facial expression, but he has "something". he has a youthful face but his presence feels grounded and intelligent, electrifying even at times. i don't know what to call this in English, perhaps, it's just his particular temperament that's been honed by so much life experiences that make him different from people his age.

Enjoyed yr very clear concise summarised description of his life history, his challenges, his career, his passion. Cldnt imagine Allen to dance and sing but I am beginning to 'accept' that after watching a variety of videos of his dancing and love his singing. He is definitely a man of substance, talented, a very determined, down to earth n humble person. Your video helps me learn a little bit more about him, so thank you for that. I consider him handsome, and he has one of the most softest and captivating eyes ever. I don’t see him as a Buddha though lol. I liked that he is so grounded, honest and such a hard working guy. I saw in one interview, that he chose to leave korean and go back to China is because of the schedule of the offers were at the same time and he cannot let go of the drama because he was offered the main role. Wow...am one of those people that become a fan of him, actually not only Allen. I loved the actresss too Seven, even I learned her name and Allen after Under The Power. I didnt know them before UTP, and when the drama ended, I fell in a hole until these days am not able to get out.
Then I started to search about them and realised that they arent new in the industry, both have a trayectory, both havent connectios, both are quiet in their personal lives. He is married and I respect him more because he is in this industry due to his own talent.
