I am shocked to read such offensive comments (fortunately not a lot). Your video really helped me, and I'm grateful to you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for making a video trying to help others learn. Your audio is very low, though. Even at max volume on my Laptop, Windows, and UA-cam, I couldn't make out what you were saying.
Sorry about that. My older videos suffered from poor audio, that's for sure. You might check out my more recent videos on this. MeshMixer Advanced is a playlist with more current videos and workflows. You can also checkout my website that categorizes the videos much better. Will hopefully be a better resource in the future. Lastly, I have moved on to using BlueSkyPlan for model closing. It's a free software that charges for some functions, but this is not one. Much faster at cleaning up the models, basing them, and getting them printed.
Baron, thank you so much for all your videos. I have jumped into this with both feet a few weeks ago! It has been a steep learning curve but I am finally getting a handle on printing and doing my own aligners with Blue sky. Still not ready for prime time, but close. I couldnt have done it without your generosity. I have had a couple of print failures when I based models. I couldnt figure out why. When I looked at the model in PreForm I noticed that the first layer was NOT a complete layer. I use "page up" to see each layer. I havent figured out why, but I am going to keep playing with it. I find when I "make model solid" I lose some detail around the tooth margins. Thanks again.
+emccallum1012 try never to "make solid". That decreases detail significantly. Are you using "Select Base" in PreForm to orient your models for printing?
When I import into Preform I would get an integrity error. So it must be something I am doing in MM that no one else does!! Yes, I am selecting the base in Preform and it appears to be completely flat on the platform. However, when I "page up" to see each print layer, the first print layer is not a complete horseshoe, it is just two small pads. The second layer is a complete horseshoe. So, I think the model has a gap on the build platform and fails to adhere. That is just my opinion. It may have something to do with how I extrude or plane cut in MM. I read in your bio that you waterski, if you are ever in SC let me know and I can hook you up with some skiing that you will not forget! Thanks for the reply. ernest
+Ernest Mccallum you have a non-flat surface. Are you "closing the model" in BSP? I grew up on a boat in the summer. But honestly don't know if I've water-skiied in the last decade. Sad since I own a ski boat. Blew up the engine on the first ride 3yrs ago. Now I just pay to store it... 🤦
The ones from BSP are printing fine, and I am closing them. The couple that did not print properly were straight from my scanner (CS3600). I am testing scans to set up models for Essix retainers. So I am going from an exported .stl to MM. Maybe my Plane cuts are off and I didnt notice. Just so you know, a week ago I was having trouble moving the model in MM!! How are you setting up arches for retainers now? Vertical with added platform? Do you label them? I added a couple of letters with MM on a test model, and it worked ok. I appreciate your time and I promise I wont bug you anymore until after the holidays! Get back skiing!
+Ernest Mccallum if you haven't, watch the first video in this playlist. And the third (about errors) and the last (alternative to distal plane cut). ua-cam.com/video/kUFIXWcCky4/v-deo.html
"Horrible" is a bit harsh. But I get ya. lol Thanks for not being a thankless troll like some of the others. If you check my more current videos, you will see much more up to date and efficient videos. Hope that helps. And don't worry, I recently invested in a much nicer mic ;-)
Yeah. Sorry. On some devices, like my phone, it's fine. But others, no so good. Fortunately, it's an old video and I've made many updated videos that cover the same process with more efficient and effective techniques.
+Faye Huminski you understand that I made this video to help. I did it for free. And you certainly didn't pay anything to view it. Why exactly you would make a comment like that baffles me.
Hey 'Baron', don't take it personal. Take it as constructive criticism. If you want to be helpful, review your work before making it public, so it's useful. Just Fix It and quit whining about it, for God's sake man.
+Faye Huminski nah. I listened to it on my phone as soon as you posted that. At 80% volume, I could hear it just fine. Yes, it's quieter than most of my videos, but if you don't like it, just keep on moving. 2000 other people of watch the video and not one single person decided to attack it, calling it "Useless" A few thumbs up suggested it was actually helpful to a few. And no thumbs down indicates to me that you're the only troll out there that would criticize someone for helping out FOR FREE. Pointing out the fact that the volume is low is fine, but you don't have to be a prick about it.
This is by far the easiest way to build a base. Thank-you
My pleasure.
This is a great video! Thanks for putting this out there for all of us for FREE!

You saved my life!
Lol. Happy to have helped!

I extruded and did the plane cut but am getting the hollow model, may I know where could I have possible gone wrong.
Search for my MeshMixer Dental Advanced playlist. There are 2 videos that cover this that will hopefully help.

I appreciate the video from an educational standpoint, but the audio is horrible

Tried to watch. The volume is extremely low. Could not continue. Sorry

Baron Grutter DDS. Thanks for answering. I didn't realize it was an older video. I will check out your other videos. Thanks again!
Can't hear clearly..
Old video. Many for more current ones with better, more efficient workflows at this point.
Volume is too low, makes video useless. Or else SPEAK UP!

Nah. Volume is too low and makes for a shitty video. But thank you for trying anyway.
Huh. I'm hearing it fine. But hey, if you're unhappy maybe you should ask for you money back. Oh wait....
