- In this video we look at the Marco Tribute Master Collection Colored Pencil agains the Phoenixcolor Colored Pencils. Whilst this is a comparison video of both pencils, if you would like to know more detail about each pencil, you can follow the links below to my individual reviews of both pencils.

I have the Phoenixcolors. I haven't used them much yet. The boxes are what really reeled me in - as well as the beuatiful designs on the pencils. (I know! I know! Sheesh!) I do have Polychromos as my 'fine art' pencils, but having these was kind of a novelty. I ALWAYS enjoy your videos. They are helpful and informative. Have a great weekend.
So glad you came back. I think Europe takes better care of their disabled than the USA. But I think nowadays people are either rich or poor, the middle class has disappeared.

I know exactly what your talking about with the prices going up. It is true that when a company realized people are buying their product and there is a so-called demand, they jack the price up as quickly as possible. I think it's becoming the normal practice for an awful lot of companies now.
Harry please do not be so hard on yourself. We love you and your videos no matter how you view them. I think you have trepidation or apprehension these days and that's OK but don't be quite so hard on yourself. I have been watching your videos for years and will continue to watch as I appreciate you and the information you provide us. Thank you again for another great informative video!!!❤

You are, and always will be, the best British colour pencil reviewer. Even though sometimes you get in your own head. The best videos are the most human ones. When the reviewer goes off on a bit of a tangent, or cocks up a bit.
Everything is getting more expensive mate that’s not your fault. I love watching. Just do you and you can’t go wrong.
Because of you, Harry, Lyra Polycolors have been the best "alternative" Polychromos that I've come across. I absolutely love them.
I have 3 sets of Polychromos, a full Derwent Lightfast and Caran d'Ache Luminance & Pablo's.
Because of the cost, my practice for Polychromos artwork, is completed with Lyra Polycolors. I practice work with Luminance with Royal Talen Van Gogh's. And I practice Pablo work, with Koh-I-Noor Polycolors.
You've helped me love lower priced quality brands who really are underrated.
I actually enjoy playing with the Koh-I-Noor Magic pencils too.

Missed you so much. These look so beautiful. Sweetie don’t think that you need to justify yourself to us or anybody else. We don’t care what’s going on in the rest of the world. We care what’s going on in your heart and that’s it. And the pencils, of course lol. The second pencil companies see they got a review from somebody as cool as you is they jacked the price up because they know we’re gonna be looking for it.

Harry would you please review the Amazons Basics coloured pencils. They’ve been compared to Prismacolor and I’d love to hear your view of them.

I have been trying to get these for years, but they are really difficult to get a hold of outside the U.S. I live in Australia but they might be just as hard to buy in the U.K.
Also the Artist Gear products from Michael's. I've heard similar from them.

Glad to watch your videos again. I think you haven’t reviewed the derwent inktense. Probably you can make a video about them. I liked them, but my set came with a repeated color.
Thank you for this. I love the packaging for Phoenixcolor and have been very curious about them. Although it appears that I do have much better pencils, the packaging is so tempting. I also liked your honesty about value for money, and trying to find inexpensive alternatives to things like Polychromos. And don't apologize for telling people to go out and buy things soonish if they want them. Lots of UA-cam artists do the same, and it's a helpful reminder, particularly when things are new to the market. 😊
This was a great comparison, thanks! I have the Phoenix color set and I admit I bought it solely for the beautiful packaging and presentation. I’ve used them a bit too, and they’re nice for light sketches.
I love my Phoenixcolor, and as you said, you need to use a pencil for a while to get the best out of it. There is a new set on Ali that is a dupe of Polychromos, its a 120 with a green card box, 5? tiers of pencils each in a cardboard slide, parrot and orange pencil on the front. Andstal is calling it "Master" and Lindsay Weirich has done a review. I have alot of Chinese sets and enjoy them all...they're a fraction of the cost of "proper" pencils here in NZ, and more easily available.

Comparison is a good thing. So helpful to many when deciding what to purchase. I don’t have either set, but the Phoenix are absolutely gorgeous. Since I do small living I don’t have room for such things. If I had a conventional lifestyle , the Phoenix set would be so tempting due to the beautiful packaging and barrels. Happy you are back and hoping you recover your mojo soon.
So glad to see you back. I've missed your videos so much. I totally agree with what you have said about quality brands. There is no comparison. That doesn't mean you can't make great art with the cheaper ones as you have done many times. You need to understand as an artist that paper makes a big difference. I find cheaper pencils actually work better on some papers. For example in Kirby Rosannes colouring books my favourite pencils are the Nyoni, I found Polychromos tore the paper. Knowing how to display your work and when you need to use prints over originals also helps.
If you really want the expensive pencils the joy is that they are available individually. There are videos around showing that 12 Polychromos can make many colours with proper layering, Buy 1 or 2 at a time. Start with primary colours and black. If buying Lightfast or Luminance get a white. If buying Polychromos get a Lightfast, Luminance or Holbein soft white.

I follow an amazing artist “Amie Howard Art” and she is just one of the most amazing pencil artists I have ever seen! I believe in today’s art world with digital scanning and reproduction the ease of use is more important than just about anything else! With UV glass in frames to protect original artwork and high quality prints anyone can create museum quality art. If you want to use the easiest even cheapest brands just protect your finished artworks! Scan immediately and backup your digital files!! If you only care about original artwork? Mat and frame using quality supplies. I am a fan of your videos and how you present these art supplies as they are used! Brilliant sir! Thank you. Stay safe and be well 😊

Very informative video thanks Harry 😊 I have the Phoenixcolor set which I don't use to colour. They are purely for me to admire their beauty 😍 I have plenty of other pencils to use including my much loved Polychromos. Im looking forward to you future comparison videos. 👏 😊
Haha! The same with me! :D Phoenixes are for display and Faber Castells wait for my improvement, I bought them only because they were on sale. For practice I have Kalours (pretty much the same as Brutfuners) and Prismacolors, although these are expensive in my country.

Same. I have the Renoir ones and love them, thinking about the Tribute ones. They even have 300 colours.

YES! I have the Renoirs, I bought the 100 set, and later fell for the 120, so I'm very reluctant to buy the same colours again in the Tribute range lol
Estos 2 conjuntos son lapices con empaque muy bonitos, la verdad le eche al ojo al conjunto de Marco Tribute desde que vi su revisión en este canal; sin embargo, importarlos desde China aun estaba muy caro hace 1 año , ahora el costo de envió ya no es tan costoso y he pedido el set de 160 lapices. Je, je en algún momento comprare los Phoenix. 😅😅😅

Just so glad to see you! No one is perfect. Sometimes it helps to see a mistake and what could you do about it. Spending hours on a picture and then accidentally making a mark or picking up the wrong color is devastating. What can we do? Also, I'm wondering if you are not feeling the joyful creative spirit. This is supposed to be fun, not a job. What helps me is to, for instance, do an apple, buf do it in purple or lovely pink-leaved trees. Seems to give the break the rules mindset.

Also the wax bloom does matter in mixed media, expescially when water based products get involved, as well as for display purposes, but thats really the extent of the relevance.
I watched your video on the Marco Tribute pencils from a couple of years ago when you said at the time there was no open stock, so I only just came across these pencils by someone on one of the colouring groups on Facebook and I’m wondering if you have any idea as to whether they have since brought out open stock. They are expensive at almost $200 Australian, I have a lot of pencils sets and don’t really NEED them but am fascinated by them and tempted. Hope it doesn’t give you too much time and trouble to find out but you might just know. Thanks for coming back btw I do enjoy your videos.
I can’t find them open stock anywhere Angela, this is why I don’t really use mine and keep as a display set. Also you are right about the price, when I first got these they were nowhere near the price they are now, but everytime reviewers like myself find a set of interesting pencils on AliExpress or any of the other obscure sites in different countries, it gives them exposure and they tend to increase the price. But I don’t want to do a review and advise people to buy them ASAP because it sounds like I am getting a commission and that’s not the case. But at the same time, I don’t want what is happening to you to happen either. I don’t want people paying more than I paid for a set of pencils.
You see big companies like Derwent, Faber Castell, Prismacolor etc, they set a price and that is it, they might run a sale price but a price is set. With these other sets found on Etsy, AliExpress, Amazon, EBay etc it is really difficult to pin point who makes them and there in lays the problem. You have to really dig about and find out who makes them, which means they can set prices to whatever they fancy.
They are a gorgeous pencil but I can’t advise you on whether or not you should get. Colored pencils are not supposed to be displayed, they are supposed to be used and had fun with, but with these, once they run out, they are gone.
Can you do a new review of the Arteza Expert color pencils? It seems that they might have changed their pencil formula. Thanks.

Harry have you ever reviewed the Colleen colored pencils? I here they are nice, but a bit hard to get?
I think out of all the Chinese pencils, the marco tributes are the best. They are also the most expensive Chinese pencils. I like them better than polychromos and i have the 160 set. If the 300 set came in a tin and was cheaper I'd probably buy it but i really don't care about fancy boxes.
Have you looked into the Colleen's or the Master Art Master Series? They're not too cheap either but I LOVE both of them really. Colleen's have a soft buttery core where MAMaster Series has a harder core.
@Jana Mac I have the Colleen's, but I still like the marco tributes better. I haven't heard of the Master Art Master pencils.
@@angelawossname The Colleens have different sets...the newest being 120 colors that include pastels, however, i'm speaking of the 72 set that has 10 neons included. Set 775. Although I do have the older sets along with all the newer sets. I think 775 is the softest. If you have FC poloychromos or have used them to know how they feel/color, the Master Art Master Series isn't very far off from them. They range from 12-150 color pencils.
Harry, I think you haven ´t rewieved the Derwent Inktense yet? Or Giotto Stilnovo? Just an idea ;)

I did the math on the 300 set for me abd it works out to be BARELY cheaper than prismacolor premiers per pencil and id rather just stick witj those
I feel like you don't always have to explain about pricing anymore. If people want them they can do their own research and make the decision for themselves

I've noticed the trend when reviewers like you introduced a product demand increases and alas...so does the price. Sigh
Telling people to buy the pencils immediately does seem like you're in a quandry, your brilliant videos promote the product and the company hikes the price, just goes to show they watch your videos, you have influence worldwide, it makes perfect sense but it is annoying but not your fault
I really want to buy these, but i do not want to do it through Aliexpress 🫤
