I agree with everything you had to say. I've had my Laredo for a year now. It does take a long time to get up to higher temps, but I must say mine holds a temp like a champ!
To each their own. I'm very happy with mine. The S setting is where it's at. All grills have hot spots. Good tip with the reflection plate though. Im not saying there's not better stuff out there but my stuff is bomb and I'm happy. I've only had mine a few weeks we'll see.
Thank you for making this video. I bought my Laredo 1000 in Nov 2021. My Temp probes still work good. I have cooked on it at least 60 times since I have had it. Pit Boss has great Warranty for 5 years, they should replace those for you. keep grilling brother!!
I just purchased this for my son. He is not a avid grilled and definitely no experience with a smoker but he's wanting to learn as that's why I got it. What would you reccomend would be a no fail easy thing to cook on here first?
Wonderful review man. This was very helpful to me in making a decision. I was considering the pit boss pro series 850 at lowes but seems like it shares some issues primarily not enough smoke. I have a Green Mountain Davy Crocket and it currently isn't operating correctly, but when it does the flavor is amazing. Sounds like Pitboss doesn't do that without adding a smoke tube.
Here’s my review. I’ve had the Laredo 1000 for almost 2 years now. The probes are junk. Ash tray is hard to remove. Takes a little longer to reach higher temps. And the wifi/app isn’t really that fantastic. But it’s still not to bad of a smoker if you’re doing quicker cooks. Wouldn’t recommend for longer smokes bc 1) you’ll burn up pellets and 2) holding temps can be kinda wonky… but for me, I mainly use it on S mode or 150F for longer cooked meat just enough to set bark and flavor in and then I usually just transfer to oven so I save pellets. Other than that I usually open the fire box to sear steaks/chicken breast etc but even that is limited to such a small sear area. I like pit boss but honestly if I could start over I’d get a traeger or a smaller pit boss barrel smoker and just have a grill and offset smoker separate. Just my opinion
The smoke stack is exactly what it sounds like I've found with my pit boss brunswick if I keep it mostly closed for the first 2 hours or so of the smoke it will have a better smokey flavor because it holds most of the smoke in then I run it wide open after that
I turn mine up to 500 and it still takes over an hour plus to heat up. I do need to buy a deflection plate and a cover for the heat probe. Also I need a good after market heat probes
I really wanted a traeger and looked everywhere just didn’t wanna pay 800+ for a smoker. I ended up at Walmart and bought one of these for 500. I thought that was a decent deal until I came here. Still I don’t think it’s a bad price.
Dude, everything you said is exactly how I feel about my Laredo. I’ve had it for about 2 years now. But man I have not been able to smoke much on it because my grill will not home temp. I can set it on 180, 225, 250, 300, etc. and it will run all the way up to 400 degrees or more. I can not for the life of me figure it out and get it to hold a temp. If you have run into this problem, or maybe know a solution, I would really appreciate it brother.
I’m thinking my problem could be with the auger. It continues to dispense pellets. It will dispense them for about 10 seconds, take a break, dispense again, take a break, and keep doing that as long as the grill is on. Is it suppose to do that? Or is it only suppose to dispense when I hold the prime button?
Great review! I just purchased the 1000 at Walmart for $265 w/tax included. Box was damaged..not grill. These were $345 clearance. Not sure if I want to keep this or sell it for a profit. I'm hearing that the 'wifi enabled' feature is only for updating the firmware. If so, this means I can't use wifi to monitor my grilling?
@@patiocooking Great news maybe I'll keep it after all. Another review I was reading, stated that wifi was only to update firmware or something, and that only the Bluetooth app would monitor & control this model. So this means I can use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.. Sweet! Thx for yur prompt reply!
I just bought this the other day and have that really bad hot spot as well. Seen a page that offer the 2 hole heat deflecter or 3 up to 4 holes cut out.. which would you recommend for displacing the heat best? This is my 1st smoker so new to everything
My husband has the right in 1000 pit Boss grill. We plugged it in 2 days ago and the power board did not light up at all. We checked the outlet it was fine. How many fuses does it have? As well as were they are at. It is only a year old. I really want to get this thing running again. Please if you could help. To Hank you in advance.
I'm not sure about where it's fused on the A/C side, but you should have a black and red wire going to the control board I would check to make sure you had 12v DC in those wires and if you do the boards probably faulty which will be covered under your 5 year warranty
Just grabbed one on clearance at Walmart for $160+ tax... I couldn't pass it up for that price. Thank you for the very informative video, I will definitely invest in a smoke tube and heat deflector. Keep smoking brother!!
This one seals it for me. I'll wait before I pay $600 and see if my local Walmart drops the price even remotely close to this jewel! $160, I'd jump all over this item for that price.
@@Backnine59 My local Walmart has them for about $350 right now, but the garden guy said they'll drop them even more as it gets later into the season. So I'm just going to keep checking the store every few days.
Please provide me your opinion. I am in the market for a pellet grill and I found this model that seemed to tick all the feature boxes. Ash clean out, hopper window, wifi pid controller, good size for two people (we're retired), sears as well as slow cooks but then I saw your review. So my question for your opinion, if you have to use the smoke tube that I already use on my gas grill and you have to use a deflector, and as you put it, it's more like an oven, then what is the point to it vs using my Weber gas or my Weber Charcoal grill if I still need a smoke tube? As far as wifi, I also have a Weber 4 probe portable wifi system to probe 4 different meats or 3 meats and use the 4th for grill temp that'll notify me. I can't adjust, but I can monitor. Other than I like new toys, is there anything I'm gaining before dropping $600 on this? Thank you for your time.
No problem Rob. I had the same thoughts when purchasing this grill, as I am a huge fan of the weber kettle and weber smokey mountain, and truthfully if it wasn't such a huge pain in the butt to box it back up and take it back the store I wouldn't have kept it at the time, but now that I have smoke tube and heat deflector, I'm some what of a fan of it, but I never had a gas grill like you had mentioned. I would say the biggest advantages I see are over a gas grill would be a slightly different flavor when grilling over the direct heat, you have more of a wood flavor vs the gas, also my wife uses it all the time because of the ease of use and pouring pellets in a hopper vs swapping a propane tanks just seems easier. If you need more specific answers let me know, I would be happy to answer any questions that I can.
@@patiocooking where can I purchase this smoke tube or heat deflector? I just bought this grill yesterday and after seeing it in action I am disappointed. I need to by a cover for it before I set it up outside. Been waiting for the price to come down on them. They want 60 for it. That's the gray one. Thanks for all the information. One thing I cant stand about any of these grill reviews is, that every one says its got a hot spot in the center. Well NOT SHIT you have a hot spot in the center, the fire pot is built dead center of the grill, that is where the fire directly is, so of course that is going to be your hot spot. until you have a grill with 2 augers, or a hopper and auger on each end,, youre always going to have a hot spot where your fire is
@patiocooking so there temp sensor is either not that good, the temp guage doesn't go as high as the temp the pellets can produce, or, you're taking a temp reading in a different area of the grill that their temp sensor is located?
This grill is very ify! If it decides to work it's great! Most of the time it doesn't! Will not warm up or hold temp. Cheap build for wally. Pitboss needs to replace them with a grill that is not an "exclusive"! This grill is junk! They should stick with their original plan and build quality.
Your video could be summed up in about 20 seconds by saying this f*ing grill sucks balls. I bought one of these used but it’s already for sale again. I’ll stick to my vision kamado
Yah I'm going with my Oklahoma Joe offset smoker. Pit boss is a gas grill. I have tried everything and it sucks and waisted time and money on meat. Grill hot dogs or chicken that's it.

For the price it's a good grill in my opinion!
on the Temp settings thats not a 5, its suppose to be a "s", for extra smoke feature.
I agree with heat in the center being too hot, I had the same issue. Thank you for the heat deflector device.
