Why make such a fuss about "6 centimetres" each time when you're using the ruler the wrong way for accurate measurements anyway? When you mark across the end of your ruler like that, you add the thickness of your lines to your measured distances - 6cm might look okay, but if you put the ruler beside it, the lines should match up with 0, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30cm ... and the way you're doing it, they don't. You need to mark off the side of the ruler, and don't move the ruler any more often than you have to.
