Thank you! Can you do one for Ship Creek about what gear and hooks to use? We went down last week to Seward and the pole I brought was wayyy to heavy for me to jerk fast/hard enough. Only caught one! Haha.

Good video. Haters gonna hate. My son and I were in Seward last week and went snagging 2 nights. I wasn't sure what to think at first, but we had an absolute blast and brought home a lot of good fish. This is hard work and not as easy as some would believe. I imagine they have never tried it and are just busy judging something they have never experienced.
We felt the same way when we did it. But it is so much fun and a lot of work, A couple of days of snagging and my body was sore. Felt like I just got beat up lol.
Hey loved the video. We have never fished like this before. We are coming up from Utah from May 16th to the 27th 2021. Will the fish be running or around? I know it’s in Seward but can you share a location with us and what size hooks and weight? We would really appreciate the info. Thanks in advance.
What was your inspiration behind this video? I swear I've seen a video almost identical to this, everything from the drive down, to explaining the technique...
People asking questions how to do and what is needed. Also just enjoy showing people what we do here in Alaska. Going to have more vids coming- Russian river, Kenai, ship creek ect.
I'm sure if you look hard enough on here you will find similar videos of almost every type of activity uploaded on UA-cam. Looks like a well done, helpful " How to " on an activity that a lot of Alaskans enjoy doing up here. Nice work!
Great video! We plan to vacation in Seward the first week in August. Do you think the silver salmon could be in that time? And is fishing for silvers have the same rules.
Reds still may be trickling in and silvers will be starting to show but will be slow. Usually silvers will be in hot towards end of August. Snagging is still legal but check the refs on the limits. If you take a charter out of Seward at that time will probably be catching a few outside the bay. Good luck and good fishing!
RScottsman I like the braided line. It can cast further, cuts through the water better and better hook sets, but I would recommend a barrel swivel then a mono or fluorocarbon leader about 24 inches than the snag hook. I have had issues if using straight braid to the hook and the barbs getting stuck around line and then cutting it causing you to lose your hook.
@@preyonadventure good thoughts. It looks like you are using white braid. Wasn't sure if that is preferred to prevent spooking fish. What are your thoughts on using a steel leader to minimize line failure instead of mono or fluorocarbon?
Yes this is in Seward. Run of reds is probably slowing down but some people still catching a few if you put the time in. Silvers should show in a couple weeks.
@@krooks1 4 hours before hide tide. The tide starts pushing more fish in and will increase hook ups! Nash road in Seward has the access points. Good luck! Fish on!
There is an abundance of fish and people the use the fishery. Like mentioned in the video it's not finesse fishing but a good way to stock up on fish for the winter. Not the only way we fish up here in Alaska but an example of one way.
Prey On Adventure: Alaska Fishing & Hunting I know why you all do it. There’s too many salmon and you couldn’t possibly catch them all so they allow snagging. Doesn’t make it cool or fun. I’d much rather spend my time fishing for them but whatever floats your boat.
You’re an idiot. People in Alaska don’t snag for sport they do it to fill the freezer. This isn’t for fun it’s for food. You obviously don’t know so educated you self before you look dumb. Also these are red salmon who don’t bite on anything though I wouldn’t expect you to know that.
@@ikennaeckrich5332 You're an idiot. His point is that if the fish are still that abundant, you should have no problem using sport methods and it's way more thrilling to actually entice a bite. Sockeye also do bite when they're in the ocean and one can still coax an aggression strike in rivers, you're just too much of a fucking googan to figure out how.
Ethan Smith they are still running through June and early July then fishing slows down towards end of July but fish can still be caught. Then in Mid August silvers should be in!
Totally depends on where and when. In Seward the fish are released by the department of fish and game. These are hatchery fish. They come back from growing up in the ocean but there really is no place for them to spawn for the most part. These fish are meant to be caught by tourists and locals to put fish in the freezer and food on the table. This technique is completely illegal almost everywhere else in the state. There is a daily limit on whatever species is running at the time.
Plenty! Check out our hunting videos. Not another soul for miles. Fishing is a little more accessible so if people can get there and the fishing is good, there will be competition. Thanks for watching!
