Yh it's about being lost and at the same time anxious to move on to the next chapter as you currently feel defeated, but in the end you have to move forward and forge your own future even if you're all alone... right 😭? The song is also comforting in away that even tho you think you're alone, you're not bc most if not all of us go through this phase of uncertainty. So to anyone who doesn't know, because I'm always surprised people don't; "hakuna matata" is actually a Swahili phrase (and yes, it does in fact mean "no trouble/no worries"), not just something Disney made up. Maybe it's because I don't have English as a first language and listened to several languages growing up, but I actually thought most people knew this was an actual phrase in a legitimate language XD
Don't worry, I knew it too. But I think many people might only know if they heard it somewhere by coincedence...and if they just watched the movie they only connect it to that? Idk
I also thought most people knew this too, and imo Disney kind of took the profound meaning out of it unfortunately. When I learned to separate the phrase from the Disney connotations the words became a lot more meaningful, and I think if you can do this Wave becomes a lot more enjoyable. Ateez uses a lot of non-english or korean phrases in their discography too (other than their Japanese albums), especially Spanish, which I think is really cool. iirc Hakuna Matata was one of those first phrases.
I knew it from a Swedish comic from the 80's! A child in the story only says that and nothing else for years, and only one person in the story knows what it means (and we readers).
As a Kenyan, I'm shocked to hear that people don't know Swahili and that it's a real language like damn, is y'all knowledge about African languages that limited 😭
@@Re-bo2uo I've legit seen people online that didn't know that European countries whose languages are named after the country had their own languages so... yeah.
I love that you mentioned Mingi's use of a tag line. Mingi is a real FAN of hip hop (which is also confirmed by his song recommendations) and it shows in his deliver & lyricism as well. I appreciate that as someone who got into kpop bc of ATEEZ.
Ateez has no bad song. Some of us like the ballads other the hard hitting ones. And people like me love both. I cry on the start of Eternal sunshine. Seonghwa’s starting line is so deep, it makes your cry. Same goes for turbulence. Ateez is just perfect. They have a song/songs for every kind of taste.
About tag lines: Hongjoong's tagline is that little laugh/giggle he does before his verses. He doesn't do it in every song, but there's compilations on every single time he's done it and it's definitely most of them!
I've noticed the english translation on ATZ MVs have gotten better over the years, so im sure 'WAVE' isnt translated as great as it could be BUT it is pretty meaningful and genuinely makes me cry as a predebut tiny and seeing ATZ struggle from being from a small company yet still be so passionate on stage. (Also 'WAVE' got them their first win) Think of WAVE as representing a difficult obstacle in your life that intimidates you so much that you question whether to keep going. The lyrics are basically encouraging you to not be afraid (Hakuna matata) and face the wave even harder (try your best), you control your own time so sweep your hair cooly (be confident) because youre not alone. Thats also what Hongjoong meant by being like a fish, swimming in groups (doing things together) p.s. the melody at the beginning of wave is at the end of turbulence
Also when he mentioned crossing the Mississippi, it was like other telling them to take an easy route like "cross the shallower part"? and he rebuted with nah were fish we can take on the ocean.
It freakin cracks me up you call Mingi "Mingus". Also... I couldn't be happier that you are covering so much ATEEZ. They are seriously freakin amazing. Of course they have some more bubblegum songs - but I think those songs were much earlier in their careers. That said, I have listened to ALL their songs, intros, outros... and they NEVER disappoint. Yesss… I love them because of this versatility! Like not every artist or song needs to be deep or have some crazy beat. They’re amazing because each piece of their music offers something unique. Glad people understand that. Ugh love this group so much!
I love all these songs for different reasons... The Wave just emotes feeling good... swaying with the beat; sunshine on our face and a gentle breeze. It's like I'm transported somewhere peaceful and sunny whenever I listened to it. Turbulence is for my pity pot moments and feeling a little directionless. Eternal Sunshine for a little confidence/pep talk and someone telling me to not give up. Sometimes, it's just about how the song makes you feel and honestly, that's what music is all about. For me, all their songs are transformative and when music can do that... well, that's a win!
I’m guessing people thought you might not like how poppy and upbeat Eternal Sunshine is but in my opinion it’s impossible to listen to it without ending up in a good mood lol
Next I recommend *The Ring* and *Precious* (neither of them has MV's but they do have awesome live performances) Also this just shows how different people's tastes are, as my favourite of these is Turbulence, then Wave and the last is Eternal Sunshine😄
I'm not surprised Teddy liked ES, given that I like it and I usually am not a big fan of the poppy/bright concepts either. It's got enough Stuff Happening musically to make it interesting. "Hakuna matata" was popularized by The Lion King but it's just a common phrase in Swahili, not Disney-specific. So I can put up with that part (still don't love the song, but).

I was surprised when I saw you reacting to Eternal Sunshine on this video. My brother is a big rap (especially NF, he's the one who introduced me to him) fan and this is one of his favorite Ateez songs. We worked together last summer and introduced each other to our favorite music. I showed him all the Ateez songs that I thought he'd like: Wonderland, Guerilla, The Leaders, etc but when Eternal Sunshine showed up randomly on my playlist he fell in love with it and was insulted that I hadn't thought to show him it earlier. Since my brother and Teddy have similar music tastes, I figured he would like it too
Actually, the little cheeky laugh before his rap is Hongjoong's tag. Also "Fix On" said repeatedly and fast turns into "Song", Mingi's family name - he explained it himself in a predebut show.
In eternal sunshine technically ateez are high as they are hallucinating in a dream-like realm from the yellow smoke which is actually burnt memories that they inhaled in Deja Vu (all apart of the lore). And that's why the seasons are wack and they're happy and cheery and talking about memories and stuff. Ateez lore is the good stuff, one of a kind.
What an interesting idea for a video! There's a couple others you might not be fond of as they are more 80's jazzy'is, like a chill vibe. I cannot deal with those myself. On the other hand, I adore Wave, but I think the lyrics went straight over your head in your laughter over "Hakuna Matata" lol. They are Pirates, remember? Wave came out early, and was about how they were sailing forth through whatever hardship, and no matter how tough things became (how high the waves), they, like fish, swim together, hardship is like their ocean, their natural environment and nothing to worry about. They just face it, they take it straight on, together with Atiny. I'm surprised you liked Eternal Sunshine, as it's quite a cheery song and fairly chill. Took me a while to come around to that one actually. Also...there's a lot of lore on the music videos for all of these...Eternal Sunsine especially. Turbulence is pure reassurance. It came out at the height of Covid, and honestly got me through the pandemic, I'd listen to in on repeat in the car on my lunch break before facing the rest of my shift. It's about how overwhelming it is to grow up and to face expectations and to choose what you are and who you become. Mingi's lyrics were influenced by his hiatus and what let to him needing time off. Many of their songs are just encouragement and reassurance packaged in an intense build. :P Props to you for inviting this challenge!
Wave is actually one of my favorite choreographies from them you just didn't see a lot of it cuz it was cut out I think you should watch the dance practice
I was at work, trying to watch this quietly and not bring attention to myself, but your reaction to Hakuna Matata, the "fishy fishy" part, and then the Seonghwa-penguin hair comparison had me rolling! 😄 (I always refer to him as Angry Bird Seonghwa in Guerrilla)
Wave is a fun song & is basically Ateez acknowledging the journey they've begun. It came out with Illusion. I thought you'd enjoy Turbulence, just for because you're a JongHoe. Mingi & Joong's raps in that song just got so well too. Don't know who recommended Eternal Sunshine, but they were definitely a Loki. I'm going to say it was put on the list because of the name: Eternal Sunshine.
I was looking for someone to mention this!! I love the appreciation for Mingi using a tag line, but Hongjoong also deserves recognition. Both the laughter and "fix on" are so iconic and I love our rappers for it.
@@MossyBallerina Absolutely and it's so unique too!! ❤️ The concept of 'tag' lines in the widest sense does exist in Kpop of course. "Ateez present", "Black Pink in your area", "E-X-O", "Twice", "Say the name, Seventeen", "Stray Kids, everywhere around the world" "Everglow". But rap tags is something I haven't heard before and to go for something so unique is just so Hongjoong and Mingi ❤️❤️
rewatching this, i wanna add that changbin actually does have his own rap tag! i know he doesn't use it anymore, but back then it was actually that "yoh" thing!! it was his tag!
Remember that Turbulence is a farewell song to their youth or "fever" album! I saw somewhere that the end melody is the same melody as the beginning of wave, if that makes sense. In this way, with the melody of Wave at the end of Turbulence signifies this end of an era, and how that feels for them. It is also a song meant to comfort Atiny who are going through similar feelings of uncertainty in today's world!
@@keyphoenix9012 Yeah these are just the songs people assumed I wouldn’t enjoy! The thumbnail and title are exaggerated because obviously, I enjoyed them all 😂
There is something kind of therapeutic about sing-yelling Hakuna Matata while driving though. Turbulence is so beautiful and comforting. It really makes me feel understood, I guess. Eternal Sunshine makes me so happy!! Mingi's soft voice def threw me off at first and I love it. And of course Hongjoong's part is brilliant. One of my faves (I mean, they are all my faves really). Also, Woosan. This reaction is hilarious too. LOL!! Maybe people didn't think so because it's too cheery?
i'm definitely one of those who recommended eternal sunshine but i'm honestly so glad you enjoyed it! i feel like its such an underappreciated song in tinytown and maybe that's why a lot of ppl thought you might not enjoy it either but it's one of my faves from their brighter concepts also i feel like hongjoong's giggle is also bit of a tagline at this point since he does it on most songs and it's really recognisable :) but i love that they pay attention to the little details like that
I love your honesty...always! You're right...can't love EVERY song cause you'd be lying...PREACH!!! I also apologize for us & beg for your forgiveness LOL
No idea who said these were the most ‘unlikeable’ for Teddy! I have a similar taste and I really like all of these. Also, there are still some he’d LOVE like To The Beat which should’ve been among the first Ateez songs he heard about. I’d say anything from the Dreamers EP, Celebrate, Star 1117 Time of Love, Better would all be stronger contenders for Teddy’s least liked songs (no hate)
I always love your videos and your reactions. You are so entertaining and literally my fav UA-camr. I see you’re adding more things to your wall, can we get a mini tour of all your things? Also, congrats your UA-cam plaque! 🎉
About the tag lines: I mean Hongjoong doesn't have words as a tag line, but he always has his laugh in it before he starts rapping. Otherwise I only know that Suga before he raps or when he produces a song always has a whispered "Suga" in it.
I would suggest The Ring. Win. Rocky. Horizon. Sector 1. And if you listen to the beat, maybe live performance of The Leaders. All of the listed songs...live even better ;)
The choreo for wave is definitely not as intense as their other choreos so that it fits the song but it is still really complicated and very groovy you should definitely check out the dance practice. Their albums also tell their pirate journey in a specific order so it makes sense that wave would seem out of place to you without checking out the full albums lol
glad you loved eternal sunshine because it’s such an underrated song, ugh! ✨ also i don’t know if you have seen the movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, but it plays off so beautifully of what the movie is about, basically about forgetting past memories and the lyrics speak of treasuring memories and remembering them forever.
For rapper tags: I saw some people already mention Hongjoong's giggle, which is also iconic (you should look up a compilation). Other kpop idols I know have tags are Jooheon from MonstaX, "joohoney one hunnid", and IM, "I am what I am". In some of Stray kids older songs Changbin has his "Yoooh" as a rapper tag and Han has a noise I don't know how to spell, you can hear them both in District 9, but they are definitely not used often. Pretty sure there are others that I don't know of but I don't think many use them in every, or even most of, their songs.
Idk if someone has said it in the comments, but you've already heard Mingi's singing voice! In "Déjà Vu" we can hear him whispering, singing and rapping :)
lol fun fact: ateez are high off their rockers in the eternal sunshine mv because of their lore, thats why they look very happy and carefree. (also the song just gives off that vibe too and i love it)
I think you'll really like Paradigm and I can't wait to see you react to that one I also think you'll like Rocky Boxer's ver, though it has some rock elements that I know you typically don't love
👀 Sure looks like you liked all of them. 😂 Have you heard Hongjoong’s tag line? It’s a chuckle or a laugh. ATEEZ, have something for everyone. That’s what makes their discography amazing!!
honestly, i thought you wouldn't have enjoyed Eternal Sunshine because of the lyrics and bubblypop vibe(is that what it's called?), but glad you enjoyed it! not surprised about your feelings towards Turbulence, cause it's the song you hear at the end of DejaVu and you had already said that was a sound you may not have enjoyed, although for me I love lyrics and vocals here (not quite about heartbreak though?, but i guess it could be an interpretation) a little surprised about wave, but it's ok, it was a song that took some time to grow on me too, however, I'm surprised that you didn't notice that Turbulence ends the same way Wave starts? (just wanted to point it out)
Eternal sunshine is one of my favs , glad you liked it ! Something that came out today that I would definitely recommend checking out is agust d haegeum !!
Curious to get your thoughts on the following ATEEZ songs: Fever, Dreamers, and Illusion I think people commented WAVE because its a very bright, upbeat, and commercial song. It is fund to shout Hakunamata during their concerts, also the choreography does go hard they didn't show it much in the mv. They took inspiration from the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for both the song Eternal Sunshine and MV. There's a lot of mention of memory and remembering on the happy times not the bad times. Also did you catch HongJoong's reference to Peter Pan in his rap part?
Honestly thought Eternal Sunshine was going to be a bit too bippy, but it is actually sort of super dark in its place in the Ateez lore at least. Since we're getting To the Beat, I feel like the next one we should all ask for is Don't Stop. Precious is also great and an odd duck. Although I can't believe you still haven't heard Answer, which is one of their most iconic songs.
I have to say that I am quite disappointed about this video. I know it's jokes and all, but having the thumbnail be "The worst of Ateez" is just not it. Your attitude throughout this whole video rubbed me very much the wrong way. Just because this side of isn't to of your preference, lots of people love this side of their music. It's my personal favorite. You don't need to like it, but there is no reason to go about it like this. Wave: I'm surprised I have to say this, I thought it was common knowledge that this wasn't just something Disney came up with. "Hakuna matata" is not from The Lion King, it's an actual Swahili phrase that means "no worries". Turbulence: It's not about heartbreak. It's about feeling lost and alone in the world, wondering what road you're supposed to go and where you're supposed to end up. It relates to youngsters struggles with self-identity 16:14 - 16:42 Do I even have to begin explaining how distasteful this was to listen to?
Hongjoong also has his own tag! It's his laugh/giggle actually 🤣 sometime mingi and hongjoong don't find a place to fit their tag but you still can hear fix on and hongjoong's giggle before he raps in others songs 😁 so both of them have their tags in this one!
So wave is more like a summery song to let your worries fade away type of song. Fishy fishy like means to like avoid obstacles sorta. I don't know if I can explain it well😅 this song is actually pretty popular in Korea but not my favorite for sure. It actually got them their first win. Hakuna matata ya means to take it easy or no worries so it goes with the song. Turbulence isn't my favorite either but I love the meaning and lyrics. Mingi wrote it when he was on hiatus with anxiety. The lyrics are aimed towards younger people to comfort them that they're not alone in what they're feeling basically. And idk why anyone rec'd eternal sunshine cuz I love that song 😭 Also I would recommend good lil boy, to the beat, don't stop, and win next :)
The problem is Ateez has no bad songs 😂
Fck

(I always refer to him as Angry Bird Seonghwa in Guerrilla)
Never expected him to like one of favorite Ateez songs: Eternal sunshine ☀️ ❤👌🏻
I would like to recommend their song “Win”. It is fire
WAVE is my #1 favorite song and Turbulence makes me cry
Next one ATEEZ - Don't Stop
Just to make your day a little bit better: Hongjoong also has a tag line. It's literally his little laughter. And I think that's neat ❤️
So now songs that you probably like would be "The ring", "The leaders", "Win" and "Sector 1"
Turbulence is one of my top favorites.
Turbulence is the hug that I need every day♥︎♥︎♥︎
Eternal sunshine is one of my favs 😊 love that you like it!!
Do “To The Beat” and “Rocky”
To The Beat coming next 🍿👀
Man is trying to dance like them and partying with eternal sunshine. Eternal sunshine deserve this 🥳❤️
I'm wondering who are the idiots that submitted Turbulence, it's pure insanity to put that song into the "worst"
no, the vote was for songs that teddy would not personally enjoy, i mean the title of the video is kinda incorrect haha
@@cherie2861 Thx
@@keyphoenix9012 Yeah these are just the songs people assumed I wouldn’t enjoy! The thumbnail and title are exaggerated because obviously, I enjoyed them all 😂
@@TeddyGreyOS I'm glad that you enjoyed them all😂

There is something kind of therapeutic about sing-yelling Hakuna Matata while driving though. Turbulence is so beautiful and comforting. It really makes me feel understood, I guess. Eternal Sunshine makes me so happy!! Mingi's soft voice def threw me off at first and I love it. And of course Hongjoong's part is brilliant. One of my faves (I mean, they are all my faves really). Also, Woosan. This reaction is hilarious too. LOL!! Maybe people didn't think so because it's too cheery?
"This is so cheesy. I fucking love this." This guy is so hilarious and honest! damn I love your reactions!!
Thank you so much 🥲🤎
i'm definitely one of those who recommended eternal sunshine but i'm honestly so glad you enjoyed it! i feel like its such an underappreciated song in tinytown and maybe that's why a lot of ppl thought you might not enjoy it either but it's one of my faves from their brighter concepts
also i feel like hongjoong's giggle is also bit of a tagline at this point since he does it on most songs and it's really recognisable :) but i love that they pay attention to the little details like that
if u want some melodic Mingi, I recommend Light (it was this bside that solidified his position as ult bias), All About You, Not To Late, and With You
I love your honesty...always! You're right...can't love EVERY song cause you'd be lying...PREACH!!! I also apologize for us & beg for your forgiveness LOL
Hongjoong also has a catchphrase at the beginning of the rap it's a laugh which makes it sexy too.
About the tag lines:
I mean Hongjoong doesn't have words as a tag line, but he always has his laugh in it before he starts rapping.
I love wave and its entirely bc of mingis part
This was so much fun 🥰 Wait the #'s are great 🤣😂🤣
glad you loved eternal sunshine because it’s such an underrated song, ugh! ✨ also i don’t know if you have seen the movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, but it plays off so beautifully of what the movie is about, basically about forgetting past memories and the lyrics speak of treasuring memories and remembering them forever.
He proved me wrong, completely wrong, and I couldn't be happier for it
Fun fact the end of Turbulence is the beginning of Wave 😅
Mingi's "Fix on" business card, and Hongjoong's business card his laugh
Also hakuna matata is used by kpop artists a lot, its a swahili phrase, not exclusive to Lion King lol
Im glad you liked eternal sunshine, that shit hits me right in the soul man ;o;
Tracks you'll probably like?
Precious,Win,My Way, Rocky, and Answer
the sheer timing of the police sirens when ES played!
😂
Amazing reaction!!! Thank you and love you! Eeeeeeeee! Ateez forever! ❤
There isn't a song by Ateez that I don't like. When I first got to know them, the songs I liked less are really my favourites now. ♥
Thank you for this videos. Ateez is and incredible group and your reactions make us so happy 💯💯👏🏻
lol fun fact: ateez are high off their rockers in the eternal sunshine mv because of their lore, thats why they look very happy and carefree. (also the song just gives off that vibe too and i love it)
is this a theory or have they actually said this?? that’d be funny if it was canon hahah
@@emmylia I think it’s just a theory but it would make sense because of the yellow fog in Strickland 💀
@@xoxojongho ooo yea u might be onto something👀 this is all im gonna think about when watching this mv now lmao
@@emmylia lmao same it's all thats been on my mind since i saw that theory
I think you'll really like Paradigm and I can't wait to see you react to that one
I also think you'll like Rocky Boxer's ver, though it has some rock elements that I know you typically don't love
I LOVE THOSE SONGS!!!!
Especially when i'm reading :D
👀 Sure looks like you liked all of them. 😂
Have you heard Hongjoong’s tag line? It’s a chuckle or a laugh.
ATEEZ, have something for everyone. That’s what makes their discography amazing!!
Had me dying at the end bro 😂 Also I fing love Eternal Sunshine
Turbulence. Love that song . at the concert it's even better.
Wave actually won Ateez there first Music Show award.
Omg you need to hear Horizon
honestly, i thought you wouldn't have enjoyed Eternal Sunshine because of the lyrics and bubblypop vibe(is that what it's called?), but glad you enjoyed it!
not surprised about your feelings towards Turbulence, cause it's the song you hear at the end of DejaVu and you had already said that was a sound you may not have enjoyed, although for me I love lyrics and vocals here (not quite about heartbreak though?, but i guess it could be an interpretation)
a little surprised about wave, but it's ok, it was a song that took some time to grow on me too, however, I'm surprised that you didn't notice that Turbulence ends the same way Wave starts? (just wanted to point it out)
Eternal sunshine is one of my favs , glad you liked it ! Something that came out today that I would definitely recommend checking out is agust d haegeum !!
See this is what i meant! Even if it’s not your type of music just put Jongho, Mingi and Hongjoong on the track and you will love it😂🫶🏻
Eternal Sunshine is my FAV🙌🏻 I even have a tattoo of it! My favorite line, “ohh YUNHO it” 😂 Yunho bias here
looking forward to to the beat
Curious to get your thoughts on the following ATEEZ songs: Fever, Dreamers, and Illusion
I think people commented WAVE because its a very bright, upbeat, and commercial song.
I love your honest reaction^^
i feel like now that you've watched and listened to wave, you could go a rewatch the wave overture stage they did in kingdom. just for funsies 😭
“Maybe when I’m older…” me who mostly listens to ballads 😾
LA DISCOGRAFÍA COMPLETA DE ATEEZ >>>🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐
Amen🙏🙏🙏
WHAT WAIT I HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET BUT WHAT
edit: someone needs to tell him he won't enjoy illusion 😭😭
Mingi's FIX ON, Hongjoong's little laugh and Changbin's YOOOOOH are my favorite taglines ever
I might have to start incorporating “FIX ON” into my ATEEZ intros like I do with YOOOOOH whenever I do SKz content 👀🤔
@@TeddyGreyOS yes please 😂
@@TeddyGreyOS YAS TEDDY THAT'S A GOOD IDEA HAHAHA
It relates to youngsters struggles with self-identity
16:14 - 16:42 Do I even have to begin explaining how distasteful this was to listen to?
i like the idea behind this video! I'd like to see you do it with other artists as well! Not everyone can get behind every song
No you did not!!!! Happy feet??? 😂😂😂 OMG you made my day! Vibing to Eternal Sunshine 🎉
Hongjoong also has his own tag! It's his laugh/giggle actually 🤣 sometime mingi and hongjoong don't find a place to fit their tag but you still can hear fix on and hongjoong's giggle before he raps in others songs 😁 so both of them have their tags in this one!
You know Hongjoong is coming with his signature laugh
And idk why anyone rec'd eternal sunshine cuz I love that song 😭
Also I would recommend good lil boy, to the beat, don't stop, and win next :)
