Hey Paul, I'm a huge fan! You have such a great sound. Been loving your videos for years. Will often watch product reviews I don't even care about just to hear them chops. Keep rocking Mc
Looks and sounds like Jason (one of my favorite pickup designer/builders ever) basically ended up with a z-coil, a la G&L. No bad there; it’s a great design. My Z3 is one of the best sounding guitars I’ve ever owned. But- let’s give the old man his credit once again for the original entry in the design category.
I have these pickups in a recent Gibson Les Paul Special and they sound wayyy different than in this recording. Curious about how this was mic'd/EQ'd because mine are a lot brighter and snappier than what I'm hearing in this video. It's a pretty dark guitar on its own before I changed the pickups. I don't really hear any of the top end or liveliness I've gotten used to hearing here. Maybe the pots have something to do with it?
The setup was a Supro 12” combo mic’d with a Shure SM57 and a Royer 121. The Royer was favored for this recording because of its warmer sound, however these pickups sounded brighter in person.

Yes dog ear is a must, my LP junior is crying in the corner.

They sound like muddy humbuckers. Nothing like a P90.
They sound good although they sound like theyre restricted by a 250K volume pot. Run em through a 1-Meg and i betcha they'll brighten up like P90s!
Not a new idea they’ve had stack 90s for a while a long while
He literally said that in the description of the development in the beginning of the video
Sounds NOTHING like a P90! Too dark!
MAYBE if it wasn't overwound so hot, the brightness might come back!
Agreed. Muffled wooly sound. Not impressed at all.
@@ChipMc Nope, more like a dark, slightly thinner sounding hum bucker!

@@guitarworld AHH, THAT'D do it!
Why I tend to not like them too much!
Not enough transparency!
Is this guitar a PRS ?
Didn't watch LONG enough did you?
So, basic humbs. 😆😆
