- Figure Skating Layback Spin Level 4 +/-GOE
JGP Budafest, Ladies SP
GOE=Grade of Execution
From an international skating competition, so the levels should be accurate.

anastasia kononenko had a super biellman like julia lipnitskaya
I just found out that Julia Lipniskaya did a similar spin to Anastasia's.
Thank you so much! This was very educational! And the Biellmann variation by the first skater was really interesting.
@ 14 sec. WOW....This is the first time I have seen that done!!!
@Figureicee a sideways + haircutter is a level 2, i was never able to do a biellmann and those were my levels i always did. if you hold one of those positions or a normal layback position 8+ revs together with the others it's a level 3. biellman is a level 4.
@anubethc45 no, i think it is a variation of a bielmann spin, with the leg held behind, just she's grabbing her thighs to hold her leg higher, rather than grabbing her skate.
the first girl - Anastasia, had a really good biellmann position, her leg was like straight!!!
I would agree with the first one beeing good, she increases speed after a while. The other ones might get a level 4, but not so much in GOE.
that last position on anastasia: ouch!!
that first biellmann was crazy... and these might be level 4's but they didnt get a very big plus...
the one variation you were forgetting is called a hair cutter.
Anastasia. O___O and I thought regular Biellmann spins were crazy.
Do you HAVE to do a Bielmann position to get to a level 4?
@isadoracherie I was going to say the same thing. 'Cause I was kind of confused... they held each postition for like only 3 revs...
Is there any way to get to level 4 without a Biellmann position? And Kononeko should get that final spin position named after her, I think it's different enough from a Biellmann.
usually, the absence of a biellmann is compensated by a difficult entrance of the spin (ex. windmill entrance), assuming that it was not done in previous spins
this is how you get level four... one position for 8 revolutions + sidways position + hair cutter (half-beilman) + full beilman. Holding a normal layback for less than 8 revolutions wont give you a level and neither will holding the entire spin for more than 8 revolutions. Holding a single postion for 8 will though.
@ThatsJustLardy
tanto, gotan project buenos aires
putting the first girl aside, those bielmann spins at the end of the combinations were pretty poor: no center, no speed, too few rotations. Congrats to the first one! :D
@ThatsJustLardy
im sorry is maxwell's song this xD
@5UP3RV4MP I bet that she could easily do a pearl spin!
One question: what's the bielman position that Anastasia Kononeko does? Like, what's it called?
This might not be helpful cuz Im replying a decade later. But it is call a Needle.
ビールマンスピンはすぴんしている勢いで足をグッと持ち上げる。体の柔軟性だけで持っていくのではない。勢いを使わないのだと本家のビールマンだってできないと思う。
Caroline Zhang and Mirai Nagasu had better laybacks than what we see here.
what music is kononeko skating to?
you know, i really think execution should determine whether or not a spin achieves a level 4 or not. some of these skaters are holding for 8 revolutions and hitting more than three positions but the spins are UGLY. i'm so sick of seeing poorly executed bielmann spins and horrible layback positions...a lot of the beauty is missing from skating because skaters are so busy cramming multiple positions into one spin to get points, they're not even bothering to do them correctly...ugh.
herm712 That's why Grade of Execution exists, grading the execution of the move and adding and deducting marks in the process.
a normal layback doest count as a variation!!!!
ugly free leg positions except for number 2.
