It's so weird to see Miriam be the one that's shocked for once
Hahaha i agreeee!
Hahaha YES!
C, now that's really great😳 🤣 , to hv that effect on a comedian
Maybe she was like "huh, that would explain a lot"
As a Korean, I can confirm that it is a common Korean proverb. “울다가 웃으면 엉덩이에 털난다“. Although I must confess that I haven’t thought of it in such philosophical, historical manner!
LOL! I thought she said _"apple"_
{:o:O:}
I wonder did someone manage to get it into a 4 syllable phrase "울웃 엉털".
@@michaelcorbett4236
I can get it into 4 in English, not in Korean:
웃고, 울고, 털이 많은 엉덩이
{:o:O:}
Omg that’s amazing!! I wish I knew how to say it because I would say it all the time!!
Then what does it mean?
Miriam's facial expression was gold!! 🤣🤣
Love Miriam's face as Greta explains her grandmother's quote. She literally looks like she's figuring it out if it it's real.
Greta. Need not to worry. She sounds like an. American. ..oh forgot south korea is an American state.
I haven't seen Miriam this confused since Dominic Cooper lol
It's actually a common expression. This is used to get children to stop crying.
OMG that is nuts 🤣
💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣
That's actually genius. It's confusing and hilarious enough to make you forget whatever was bothering you.
It usually used to mock or poke fun at kids who were crying but suddenly smiling or laughing because they got icecream or something 😂
You know you're doing well when Miriam Margolyes looks shocked at what you've just said!
0:44 That grin... she was proud of that statement.
As a Korean, I can confirm its an actual quote. When I was a kid if I cried after being disciplined by my dad. He would tell a joke right after to make me laugh and then hit me with that quote which would make me laugh even harder while still sobbing.
What George says is interesting. Crying is healthy release/processing, but what about laughter? You laugh when you're suprised, happy, but a lot of people might also laugh when they're nervous. I've noticed doing that myself, sometimes. So yeah, I think it can be release, but not of pain, more of nervous energy.
She’s my pick for favorite of the year for Best Actress 🧡
Is Greta having her career ghlow up? She is PHENOMINAL in The Morning Show. I mean just like... wow!
In Past Lives as well!!
Love her in TMS! She’s so eloquent too
George quoting Joni at the end FTW
I believe it's about having mood swing. One minute you cry and the next you are laughing. It's like teasing gently about swinging mood specially you are a kid as if they are changing mind all the time. I am born and bred Korean btw, now aware of anything to do with war...
Miriam's face @ 0.44 !! she's shookethhh 😂
Greta Lee is so naturally and effortlessly interesting and funny in this clip!

I love these shows, I have lived my life mostly in UK
So I love the sense of humor of the British much, The Graham Nortons shows, makes me laugh aloud, thanks for showing them on Utupr❤
I'm from the UK. Not my favourite place. Have been living elsewhere for about 20 years now I think. But still, the British sense of humour - and, to be honest, it's evident in pretty much everybody over there - is something I absolutely love and am proud of.

Seeing Miriam shocked is quite wild
IT IS A TYPICAL KOREAN EXPRESSION I AM NODDING MY HEAD
Damn I don’t think I’ve ever seen Miriam shocked before. 😂
It's a real saying in Korean. I don't know if it has philosophical meaning, I just remember using it to make fun of other kids during my kindergarten years.
It IS a common proverb. I always took it as- don’t take yourself too seriously.
Boy George whips out the perfect Joni Mitchell quote 👍
Indeed, the true professional singer who knows his lines, including those of his idols😃
Sam Smith
Miriam Margolyes reminds me of Spirited Away's Yubaba
it'll be interesting to know how many times miriam margolyes and kylie minogue have been on the show. they seem to be the show's favorite guests
She seems to be in the top ten according to IMDb. Dame Judi Dench and Jack Whitehall holding the record.🏆☺️
I loved Olivia Colemans dig at Jack Whitehall. She seemed really annoyed at his appalling attempt at an American accent. When he was in clifford the big red dog. They play the clip and graham set it up asked about his American accent and Olivia Coleman acidly asked where in the clip have you got an American accent?
My parents used to say that to me.
That’s a real saying in Korea😂 I’ve heard of that when I was younger before immigrating to USA. I don’t really know what to make of that saying though🙄
It implies that inconsistency doesn't suit you. Stay true and avoid being fickle.
1:35 it's a typical expression, yes. someone in korea is now nodding and just shocked wow I've just heard the sentence in english
I know another version of the proverb: 울다가 웃으면 엉덩이에 뿔난다
That is one hell of a saying.
It felt like that could gone furder. Been even better
Takes a lot to get Miriam to go 😯
Greta Lee has the same voice as Kirsten Dunst, hasn't she?
울다가 웃으면 엉덩이에 털난다 is the word she was trying to say
- we do say it a lot, but not in a serious way
I think growing up, we used it to make friends feel better and make them laugh more when they cried, then laughed bc they felt better
"See, we don't speak Korean." Yes, Miriam, just let her talk and she'll translate it after...
I think she was just trying to say she didnt need to quote it verbatim cause we wouldnt know the difference anyway.no need to get salty
LOL! I thought she said _"apple"_
{:o:O:}
To *actually* give more thought to that "saying" - and, *trying* to give it some, 'context' - a melodramatic series could evolve out of it - *but* "They laugh and cry at the same time!" that's why...- let's keep Graham Norton's level-headed agreeableness!
Very rare to see Miriam tongue tied.
She is very careful what she says after blunder on the today program at 8.30 am. On radio 4. As much as people loathe Jeremy hunt. You cannot swear on British radio at that hour of the morning. She is still morto about it
Halmoni!
Greta is so beautiful ☺️
Pearl is checking her's now...
Its a saying. Its like how comedian Bobby Lee tells the story of how his mom was walking with her 5 year old sister to school after the Korean War and realized that she forgot something at home so she told her 5 year old sister to wait and she'll run home and be right back. When she ran home and came back her 5 year old sister was was dead and in pieces on the road bc she had been hit and run over by a US miltary jeep that used to tear around Korea back then. So she went home got her parents who came and had to pick up pieces of their daughter. Out of that trauma you somehow have the their sons who are f'ed up but hilarious.
Wait! Shiv is aussie or something?
I thought it was a joke to make kids stop crying...
South Asians are famous for laughing and crying. So its true 😂😂😂😂😂
Rolly Is NoT your sEX SLaVE
Is it growing hair? Thought it was a horn to grow...
Well that was 2:44 minutes of my life wasted... Miriam was looking like "please shut up"
Man, I need a Korean girl... 😍
Who else is stuck in the never ending loop of The Graham Norton show 👀
Oh dear. This? This is what now constitutes a highlight from the Graham Norton Show? How the mighty have fallen...
Due to wga strike and sag aftra. He cannot get the guests on like he used and I have noticed for the first time ever I kind of stiffness Laura linneys appearance was weird. Asking graham not to mention her other work was very odd. What was up with that
Not Sarah talking about russian playwright/writer in times when EVERYTHING RUSSIAN is rightfully ostracized! How out of touch these celebs are? Sarah, Checkov did not invent crying through laughter, ffs, it's a common expression, and it's a truth of life!
You know, now we can tap on a profile and see the comments that someone has left. Based on your comments, you’re either a troll trying to bait people, delusional, or yourself hopelessly out of touch
shut up
Right, that's Russian literature and music out then. Borscht and blinis too. Now that France is back in the good books, time to ditch the Freedom Fries for some proper frites and a side of snails.
@@colnag2158Her name is Evgeniya Leshchenko. She is either Russian or Ukranian. Based on her last name I would bet that she is Ukranian. Still not sure if she is serious, or trolling
@@colnag2158 HOW! HOW CAN WE DO THIS?!?!?! There are so many times I'd like to know if a comment is representative of a person or just a mis-step!!!
Absolutely a racist statement. Many Koreans are VERY RACIST. I know because I dated one.
so one Korean person = all Korean people, good to know Marian, very cool, thanks for sharing
maybe she also met his family and friends, and observed a common life stance among those aquaintances.@@h0lly_blue
What? How is it racist?
Marian, babe, what are you talking about?
@@monicad99Yeah, I met 20 English they were all Racist. That makes whole English racist. Yeah, it's like that.
It's a common expression. Not sure if there is any meaning behind it. It's just something said a lot to stop kids from crying.
