  • I bought a few queens late season at a cheap price but paying the price later cause now the queens are going into winter very weak, I'm going to add sugar bricks to try and safe the queens. #beehives #bees #honey #honeybees #sugarbricks #farming

Yours bricks turned out a lot better then mine, I think a good bit of them are looking like they are doing well. I like lids with food space in them. After we get past this storm I'd like to check the state of my bricks. Have a great evening Brad.

Those are some happy colonies with that extra food.

I've got to do more Fall frames-brood equitizations. Good looking blocks.

Overall I'd say you're doing good from what you're showing Brad. Figure on a good year when we have a normal dearth and some good colonies in the fall, they'd be doing even better.

Depends on how late. I don't do any queen castles or rearing after mid July. 1 reason is? its to hot to mess with them. I like to get queens in early or late Spring Time. Up to Mid July

I like to requeen in august. my strongest hives do that on their own. if I made them in July, i had time to see how well they did before I put them in. if they fail to take I still have time in sept. to fix it. the difference is I need them to build up and be strong in January to go to almonds. I cant make queens early spring, no drones till late april, so I have to buy any spring queens I get. I just got into a disscusion with an older beekeeper about this today. He likes to requeen in the spring to control swarming. next year I am going to try to make extra queens in the summer, and send them to Rodney in SC to over winter for me, then he can send them back in the spring. that way I will have my own stock for nucs

@@KajunHomestead they need to be strong going into fall, then if they have enough honey, I just feed pollen. I had some last year with 18 frames of bees in double deeps in Jan. at that point they were out of honey, but if they go to CA we can feed syrup, or you better get sugar on them. it was a bad winter in CA and they didnt go till mid Feb, and they went down hill fast

Awesome, I didn't know you can add essential oils, like thyme oil, to your candy. Bee like making your own Thymol mite treatment. Politicians are professional shit dodgers.
