- Out and about Walking in Castle Combe.
Today's walk is from the small but beautifully formed Cotswold village of Castle Combe in Wiltshire. This village is said to be the prettiest village in England - It is definitely a contender for sure! During the walk I only seen one cyclist & one car. You can clearly hear the birds singing welcoming a brand new day.
I very much tried to make this walk an unhurried one, slowly & deliberately taking in the wonderful architecture of the village whilst immersing myself in the dawn chorus. The one thing that very much stands out about this video is simply the fact that there is no one around, such an unusual experience for a heavily visited location.
It was also fairly windy (as most of my walks usually are) which did result in some rubbing of the microphones cables which makes for quite an unpleasant sound! I think it does spoil the video and I very nearly scrapped this video because of this! I am currently experimenting with setting the mics up differently to hopefully eliminate this ever happening again.

I did feel extremely exhausted during this filming as I had been up all night as I was doing a film at a known haunted location which I started at 1:00am. Then drove to Castle Combe afterwards. That video is on its way to this channel, so please subscribe so you don't miss out on must watch videos!

Thank you for this achingly lovely walk; it was Castle Combe as I have always hoped to see, but never managed. I visited in autumn 2019, and it was still so crowded that it led me to wonder how it is to daily live in these tiny idyllic pockets when they become so popular... I see the key is to be the early bird!
Hello. Thank you so much for commenting. Like you say, it is difficult to get to see these beautiful places without them being fairly crowded (although tourists bring in essential and often needed trade to local B&B’s, Pubs & shops etc). So with this in mind, that’s why I go out so early to catch these locations before they get busy, this way viewers can experience what it is like to see & hear such places at the beginning of a brand new day which is often welcomed in by the wildlife. As far as I am aware, there are not too many videos on UA-cam featuring Castle Combe so early in the morning, so maybe this video is a rare one currently? I am out on location early in the morning filming another Cotswold location which should hopefully be fairly quiet too. All being well that video should be up in the next couple of weeks. I also intend to revisit Castle Combe in a couple of months time for an autumnal early morning walk. Thanks for watching.

I lived for a short time 2 miles from Castle Combe in Grittleton, it is such beautiful, peaceful areal, I still miss it very much.

Thank you for providing this thoughtful content especially for the elderly and infirmed. I know some that are no longer able to travel due for health reasons that truly miss travel and exploring on foot. Travel vlogs just aren't the same as a leisurely walk around a neighborhood and you make it feel almost real.

What I loved about your video of Castle Combe - we visited the village many years ago and loved it - you took your time filming and didn't rush through the lanes, so we got to see so many of the charming details. Loved hearing the birds cooing. And it was also lovely that you visited when there were no tourists around, so the village seemed as it must have done a hundred or more years ago. Perfect. Thank you for helping to bring back so many wonderful memories of the few hours we spent there. This was a peaceful way for me to end my hot summer afternoon today in July.

It's absolutely amazing that we are looking back in history to the MEDIEVAL TIMES and nothing has really changed in 400-500+ years.And yes the cottages have had an upgrades but you'd expect that but it's been done very sympathetically...

Thanks for your video, it reminds me the time I spend in Castle Combe whilst I worked as f&b manager at the Manor House in the 80's. I was very lucky to have a flat who was located next door to the White heart pub. Since this time I came just one more time to CC about 10 years ago and again was thrilled by the beauty of this place. CC will always have a place in my heart. I have to admit that I am CC addicted.

Well spotted! Glad you enjoyed this early morning walk. It is unreal how busy Castle Combe gets which can start from around 8am! I have to say tho, that from an artistic point this video is not so good as I was swinging the camera around left, right & centre (due to my at the time inexperience & some degree of too much excitement!) Also nowadays I wouldn’t be so keen on adding wording like the way I did in this video, I’m cool with adding my logo into my videos as long as it done in such a way that it would not cause any offence or distress. A few months ago I did think about deleting the video but on reflection I’m glad I kept it because at the end of the day it is still a good insight into what the village looks like with no one else around and an important time stamp in the village’s history. @@OutandaboutWalking I’m glad you didn’t delete the video because even if it isn’t up to your standards you have now it is still a great video with relaxing scenery. You should always keep your old works to be able to look back and see how things started and how they are now. I enjoy every video I watch and so far I’ve not been disappointed 😁

What a glorious walk! Yes, I did spot your clever sign by the manor house entrance. I have never seen Castle Combe in such tranquility. That must have been a wonderful experience to see everything in detail without the crowds and traffic. I find peace and calm in your videos; thank you so much for sharing them with us all. Beautiful video! I could live there in a heartbeat. Visited the Cotswolds a few years back, but not here, I feel intimidated by the lack of parking and I don't want to intrude on those who live there. I also love the Wood Pigeons, what a melancholy sound they make, but so enchanting at the same time.

Such a pretty walk. A suggestion - you may want to pan more slowly. Those of us on treadmills, and those with vertigo issues, could be taken for a ride otherwise. 😅😬

@@OutandaboutWalking You probably are familiar with "Dave's Walks", who over the years must have created over 100 videos of walking, no talking in various picturesque sections of England. Many are over an hour in length.

Is Castle Combe still owned by the English people or has it be bought up by the Saudi.? I asked that because I was in an English village , a beautiful village and was told the whole village belonged to a Saudi prince.

This was the 1st video I clicked on, skipped the "city ones"... it was getting cheek carressed by grass fronds at the onset that intrigued me and the gorgeous wisteria encrusted building, the closeup of a pot plant...in fact you, suggestion, should add a few closeups each video, it shows a unique personalization and bit'o humor that you're full of which sets you WAY apart from other walkers who have zippitygo and commercialized themselves. Who doesn't like home movies vs ads. But, I quickly refreshed my reason for stopping our walk at the statue gazebo, I was getting seasick which I never do in a car, plane nor boat...only spinning festival rides🤢🤮 and apparently spinning cameras. Welp, you asked of my take which I left unsaid cuz of "if you don't have anything nice to say..." Good thing I haven't had breakfast yet. I'll just set here on me porch, breathing deeply CUZ IT'S RAINING! and weatherman promises 50°s after cold front pushes through. Yeeeeha!

I did actually think about removing this video as the camera work was so shoddy, but as someone else said in a comment, this video still has it's historical value despite the spinning camera (sorry it made you felt sick BTW). Funny you should suggest closeups as I have been doing a bit of that lately. I feel that even now after nearly a year & 3 months, I am still developing my camera work. Oops, forgot USA = world oddball in measures (and which side of road to drive on, 😁I do confess I push me grocery cart or walk on wrong side in stores, parking lots, stairs etc which gets me in jams alot), that's 50° range in Fahrenheit. To answer your next question, nope, never'd an urge to nor ticket given for being vehicle hazard. Welp, your lastly reply asked ifn I'd liked or not the first video me watched... there are a couple more oldies-goodies am rewatching to correct me lack of gabbing on those also ... however don't fret of i'twas a similar quirk on me part 🤯, not yorn, that I couldn't watch it for a second time😵💫.

The reason for not having people in the video was because the video was filmed very early in the morning so most people are usually sleeping at that time, also during the daytime this particular village is packed with tourists so some viewers might like to see what it looks like at a more quiet time of the day without all the people. This is what I try to do on most of the videos on this channel, so viewers can see what popular villages look like with very few people or even sometimes with no one around, which can give a feeling of peacefulness & tranquility with just the sound of the wildlife. Is this a retirement area where there is a huge amount of retired people living because I am wondering how they take sure great care of the plants around the area, Every Shrub is neatly trimmed and the flower pots are so fresh and fully flowered and the Ivy is so nicely trimmed around the homes and even in the public areas like on side of the road and such. I am wondering how they can work and still keep their flowers and gardens so nicely done?

A lot of the villages are places people retire to so yes a lot of old people live here.But people with families live here as well or they are 2nd homes for some people
A lot of towns and villages in the UK enter the best village or town competitions ,so a lot of the people have pride in there town spending a lot of there spare time and money keeping them looking like this also the local councils do a lot as well 😊
They are wealthy they have gardeners !

I know it is 5 am but is there no inside lights on, no one on the streets taking walks and no one up with lights on. I think I could get used to a place like that real quick.
