When the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake releases later this year, you HAVE to play it. Many people say it’s the absolute peak of the Mario RPGs, and for good reason.
it's pretty great but my nostalgia goggles demand I defend the original Paper Mario as my preferred game haha
TTYD and Superstar Saga are god tier

@@horizonbumpy2828 At least this game made up for it by being comically self aware to the point of it going from cringe to really funny (due to this being mario's very first RPG). Also, TTYD was never really that hard. It's more the optional challenges that make it far more difficult. In my opinion, the reason for fighting things being gone did a far bigger scar on the franchise than the difficulty as Paper Mario games were never really about difficulty for me, so I get what you are saying.
Super Paper Mario on the Wii is probably my favourite of the series

I love these long form, RPG focused videos. The retro games and storylines are great, and ConnorDawg Voice Actor is so good for voicing the characters
Capture card delay can be avoided by using a HDMI splitter, 1 cable goes to the capture card. The other one goes into a monitor.
Then play while watching the monitor, capture will be synced up fine, but you need to get audio from the monitor (either using headphones or speakers), using a headset on the Switch will prevent the capture card from getting any audio.
If he's using the Elgato capture cards there shouldn't be any significant delay unless he's using the new elgato software instead of the obs preview. There still will inevitably be SOME delay, but it's definitely not enough to make him constantly miss time stuff.
his VA title is still proved in this speedrun series, i really like that he makes different voice for different characters. its more enjoyable to watch his gameplay
Chrono Trigger is really good, it is made by the creators of final fantasy and dragon quest, the art is by Akira Toriyama the dragonball guy, and it has an interesting time travel mechanic. It also isn’t too long and is my favorite game.
Yea like you barely have to grind in that game outside like 2-3 places
Chrono Trigger is probably the best time travel RPG ever made with the best designed bosses.

The character switch-in mechanic reminds me of Mana Khemia. You generally only had like four characters in combat, but constantly had two others waiting. And instead of just doing a manual switch, they either defended from an attack or chained into a combo, and the ones they replaced were recovering mana and hp, waiting for their turn to come back to the front.
The new rpg arc has been killer content. The vods being uploaded is awesome as well.

The editing feels like a weird roller coaster. Most of the time it's chill and fun but occasionally it's just way to fast and you want to throw up. Besides that an entertaining video

If you want story rich, I recommend LISA the Painful and Omori. They take less than 20 hours. Really good rpgs

I don know if he has the patience for a stealth game. I do think his brain is perfectly suited to fighting games (former chess player, competitive, monke), I'd like to see him try those. I don't know what the best way to introduce him is tho, there's the content way and then the actual real way.

This game unlocked a personal spot in my heart and it’s pure rage.
I remember the Mario & Luigi games on the DS also being really fun, if you wanted to check those out. Though I'm not sure how well you could stream it since those games tend to use the touch-screen and your "DS" may not have one.

I am right now playing Digital Devil Saga for the first time and I am enjoying it a lot. I can recommend it if you are not afraid of harder JRPGs

Really love the Mary Skelter series as first person dungeon crawlers. For many reasons, Mary Skelter 2 is the best starting point.
Dragon Quest 11 is one of my favorite games of all time, and it definitely is underrated. Love to see Connor play it at some point.

Ahhh yes, the first rpg I ever played. I had started to think this game was a fever dream since no one really talks about it. Then my brother got the port to Wii U and now the remake came out. Laying the groundwork for the amazing Paper Mario on N64.

I didn't have a suggestion last time, but I may as well mention Chained Echoes. I just finished it this past week. Pete played it last year when it was pretty new. Very heavily inspired by the JRPGs of the 1990s and early 2000s, so you might catch a few references.
Depending on how much you do and how fast you are, you can beat it in anywhere from 30 - 40 hours.
But most importantly, Baki's in it. I'm not joking. There are enemies in the game that are muscly giants literally named "Baki".
After this my immediate thought was maybe that you'd love the first three or four mario and Luigi games. Only issue is that it would be hard to stream (aside from super star saga) due to DS/3DS controls at some parts

If you want recommendations I’d say the Golden Sun saga, being Golden Sun & Golden Sun: The Lost Age for the Gameboy Advance. (It’s technically one game but split across two games bc of cartridge limitations.)

Connor legit play a main line SMT like Nocturne. The boys keep trying to get you into Persona, but SMT has all the demons and creepy occult otherworld stuff, but none of the highschool bs
You should definitely play Chrono Trigger next. Very similar to this in that it's a nice tight story without too much fluff, and there's some sidequesty stuff that's worth doing to get the true ending.
Well, I think he should hold off the extra stuff for post-game (i.e. the Lost Sanctum and the Dimensional Vortexes) because of how repetitive they can be. The main story side quests are just fine, though.
