    What did y’all think about Davy Crockett national forest? How does it compare to other public land in Texas?

    @33.50 I was able to park a little north of the boat ramp today.8/19/23 336 yards in there is a big open clearing with downed timber. had the family and kids with me so couldn't do much scouting but going back soon and going to spend a weekend out there I have a handful of spots that looked interesting off onx i mapped out. I've never hunted before so I'm basically teaching myself through UA-cam and trial and error (1st season). thanks for your videos and others like yours.

    I have a question at time 30:06 yall are talking about the big slew wilderness more north in davey crockett nf...... but that is all Gov land , not public hunting!! so im curious can you hunt in all that green TX GOV Land even though its not on the TX public hunt area map layer??????

    • @TheElementWild
      @TheElementWild  4 роки тому

      Shoot man that’s a question for the GW. We didn’t check on all that... figured all that green was open, but either way, we were trying to give insight into how we look at maps, not necessarily exact spots. Call the GW and ask him bout that area and let us know. I’m interested now!

    Your pictures lacking any bucks is the same experience as mine.. It took me over 6 years to get a LEGAL buck deer on camera and that was at 2 in the morning! I'm excluding spikes when I say legal buck deers. I'm specifically saying bucks with an inside spread of 13" or more. 6 years... just one... yes, I know they are there, but they are camera shy, or just very rare.

    Wise words.. it does not matter how much sign you are seeing if it's all from NIGHT TIME.... FACTS! That's my experience with hunting public land.. You will see LOTS of sign.. but never see the animals that left those signs during the day time.

I plan to hunt both Davey and Sam Houston along with a few of the state parks. I am a new subscriber and am gonna keep following you guys.
    Does anyone have any suggestions for duck hunting on public lands?

      I can second what he said. The best thing to do is find and amazing area on the map! A spot that looks like it would be banging then find a spot about 1/4 mile away in a spot that has good sign! Most of the hunters will be in the spot that looks amazing on the map.

    Awesome video guys! I thought about checking this place out at some point in the season. I don’t know if it was mentioned( I may have missed it) but I think this place is open to rifle during the general season. With bucks moving great distances it might be a good opportunity to catch a buck crusin’

    On the app it shows "possible access " areas, how do you go about getting permission to hunt there

    • @TheElementWild
      @TheElementWild  4 роки тому +2

      Each one of those situations is different because it’s always a different entity who owns the land. If it is a timber company, there is a chance you can buy a permit to access their lands or lease a specific tract if you’d like. The Nature Conservancy lands are not public access and I’ve never seen one you can hunt.
      I’d say figure out the landowner and give them a call. Never hurts to try in the “permission” world!

    Great video, thanks for the help! Hunted public for just two seasons now but always out at the Sam because it’s closest to San Antonio. Been interested in giving the Davy a try.
    Were the map scout challenge points within the Alabama Creek WMA? Am I right in understanding that’s the only available spot to hunt at the Davy?

    • @TheElementWild
      @TheElementWild  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, I believe you’re correct about it being in the WMA. Truthfully I thought you could hunt the whole NF, but I’m not for sure on that. Definitely worth a call to the game warden before you go.
      How many hours from San Antonio do you have to drive to Hunt? I wish there was some public land closer for you!

    • @cottonwoodwatson1
      @cottonwoodwatson1 4 роки тому

      There are some dove lease parcels near by that I hunt, and there are some other places that would be opened up if I became proficient with my bow. It’s 4ish hours to get to my spots at the Sam. But I’m an Aggie so I get to drive through College Station and stop at C&Js BBQ each time so that’s good. Just limiting!
      Thanks again!
