Well done Lonac I love the introduction. I support translation to English too. T Alaska, Mhangura and Shackleton.... these places made us and will always be home. A big thank you
Mhangura was previously owned by Messina Transvaal Development (MTD) then gvt took over just after independence through ZMDC after the former pulled out. ZMDC was tasked with rescuscitating closed mines and starting new ones. After independence, they opened new mines namely Sabi Gold, Jena Mines, Elvington and a couple of failed projects namely Bar20 in Gwanda and Pen East in Penhalonga Mutare.
I work in the mining industry abroad...ALL mines have a lifetime, it can be 5 years or 20yrs,60 yrs...eventually the ore will be finished. The problem in Africa is that the pple build permanent structures...without regarding the life span of the mine. These are the effects.
I was born there and still visit frequently. My father worked for Mhangura from 1975 to 1994. One major even precipitated the closure of Mine besides the collapse of copper prices. The SVR ore hoist failed and spares for necessary repairs weren't readily available. When the spares were finally secured after many months copper prices had plunged. Incredible enginuity kept the hoist running until it finally failed

Johannesburg was once a mining town yet it has become the biggest city in Southern Africa. Can you imagine if they had not built permanent structures?
