This perspective on the 'art of lingering' feels like a breath of fresh air in a world obsessed with speed and productivity. The idea that true leisure is not just a break from work, but a chance to inhabit time and reflect, really resonates. It makes me wonder: how can we reclaim those quiet, meaningful moments in our own lives amidst all the noise?

3:30 LOST was the last show that with a cult following and released weekly creating this exact thing he’s referring. It's easy to feel empty when everyone tries to tell you who you should be and how to act, we are so focused on pleasing others that we forget about ourselves and what makes us happy or even who we are. Everyone has a purpose I believe, but we are all told that whatever purpose we seek or want isn't good enough or natural etc, so sooner or later emptiness seems much easier to embrace and accept.
One another side effect of this infinite "task mode" life is the destruction of nature, questioning the habitability of our planet... This feels completely absurd and tragic. Thanks for these precious reflections 🙏
I have literally been thinking about this exact topic the past week & you upload this video, perfect timing / synchronicity ! I appreciate your work, thanks

All the people around me run as if they were in a race where there is no finish line... They run and run, they suffer because they don't have enough time Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing things wrong, but then I tell myself that I'm very lucky, because I have time, because I have peace of mind and nobody can take it away from me I don't have to compare myself. Even so, social pressure is very strong.

Such a profound content! Thank you so much for this valuable piece of wisdom. We all need it as we contribute to the endless cycles of grinding our lives into what we falsely believe to be life.
We all see on social media "influencers" who make it seem like they're having the best times of their lives and it makes the viewers question their own life and question themselves feeling unfulfilled
This really touches my heart. It teaches us the drastic importance of slowing down in this drastic fast paced and almost, suicidal exicistance. Life of the past was slower and more absorbable.
depression is one of the main disseases of our time. The reason for this is systemic - we as a society have to change our perspective on life or we will suffer. I am glad you could change your path, I am in the process to do so, too.
In comptemplative times , we relax , allow thoughts to float , reflect and refine or restructure even ... A balance or harmony between work and life ...
There is no solution in this world. To fully appreciate comes from deprivation. In a world that just wants to fill your head with some kind of task or knowledge. It becomes nearly impossible to find center unless you cut ties. This is the touture of the human condition. It's the inability to truly enjoy the present moment in this dizzing, fast-paced world.
I think the problems we face today have a root in education too. Now more often than not parents don't spend any meaningful time with their kids, taking their time to teach them about life trough stories, games and experiences. Is juts a matter of scolding or throwing some recycled words that they might have heard in past form their parents or others, lacking any meaning. Even worse now young parents are simply giving phones, computers and consoles to their kids more as a form of escapism. To escape from the responsibility of having to deal with it, to take your time to understand your own child. Back when I was a kid even console games or technology were meaningful, there was no chase to finish a game as fast as you can or anything close to that. You were enjoying the game and it would connect you with others as well. Friends would come over and we would play together, having fun and then we would go outside talking about it for a bit. We would just walk around without a defined purpose just enjoying the moment. Almost everyone now has this mentality of pushing harder and chasing success and material gratification that in turn attaches to you a sense of greed. Once you have the power and resources to get what you want you will want more, because you never took the time to appreciate the small things in your life. There is no destination to arrive at in life, is like a school trip the best part of it is the company that you have at your side, the fun moments where you act silly with all your friends at the back of the bus. And once you arrive it might not be as incredible as you might have imagined. I think this is where the secret lies the people that we surround with and our minds, with the right person you can have fun and make a mundane activity something out of an adventure book. I will give this last example to conclude my take on this. I used to go with my cousin when we were kids in nature, around a river and explore around it looking for cool rocks or sticks, making all kinds of stories using our imaginations actively as we were experiencing things in real time. We would create stories or legends about things that we might have though we would have saw or pretend that we have legendary swords and powers. And if you would see the reality of how that place was, it wasn't amazing at all no crazy sights or things to do, but there was no need for that we had everything we needed in our brains. So as long as you learn how to be bored, how to enjoy small things in your life and apply some shift in perspective to see life rom different points plus the company of people that have similar visions as yours, I think you could spend time in an empty boring room and have the time of your lives.
Reminds me of the The Frankfurt School. And I think that the issue is that we must fix ourselves, through self actualization, in order to succeed in a society where life milestones don't exist, so our labor, and our lives, become wrapped around becoming a brand of neoliberal perfection instead of flawed humanity inside a community of other flawed humans. Of course this causes a whole host of issues including a lost sense of time, but I don't think that transcendentalism or neo-traditionalism are the answers because I'm inclined to agree with Fisher in that we've lost, and there is revolution that. However, those of us that live outside of the system, by choice or because we've been forced to, understand that the only option is to join or fail in this society, so there really isn't an answer or a revolution, other than the one that produces the most money, coming.

Isn't it, maybe, because 'time' also feels like moving faster, that we're persuing to go along with it? At the other hand: i really feel that so much comes to me naturally, from 'not pursuing' or 'chasing goals'... 😮 My need is to stand still, in quietly seeking my own way to heal, to thrive and to explore this world. And most of all, it lies in the attraction to nature! 🥰🙏🏻❤️🔥

Massive shoutout to 15:01. I serioiusly wish more youtube essayists would say "In my own words..." to ACTUALLY prelude them. Too often people attribute the things they say to a thinker they are looking into, and while 'in the ballpark' mostly - these constantly slight (and sometimes large) distortions do unfortunately erode the most substantially precise reading of a work. So while its a small thing, I actually really respect you doing that - claiming your own words is powerful and even more so when spoken elegantly and accurately. (Loved your book btw!) Keep up the great work! cheers!

There's a lot here similar to what Alan Watts was writing and talking about, the division of work and play in particular, and curious synthesis of work and play, so that you can work in a contemplative way i.e as if playing, if you're employed with a boring job in particular, I suggest taking this experiment. We are depraved to the degree we're invested in time, or future, so the less we are here now, the more time and future we desire, unaware that one second of being fully here can feel so enough, that you may say "alright, wow I can even die now and die happily for this is IT".
I would say there is too much coherence, direction and meaning in regards to time. There is TOO MUCH of those. I feel best when time is directed towards nothing, when time serves no purpose, when meaning isn't fulfilled or acknowledged. I'm a hobby photographer. I take photos for no other reason than that I enjoy it. It doesn't matter how many hours, it doesn't matter how many I take, it doesn't matter were I go and take them, it doesn't matter if I get right just the way you could imagine you want. I'm taking photos. That is all.

We have been conditioned to being kept busy in order to earn the money to afford happiness. While I agree that a planet with aimless souls is a very dangerous idea, nobody needs to put on an apron and serve fast food at 7am. We are better than a lot of what we diminish ourselves to - in the perpetual cycle of 50hrs of work for 48hours of rest.
@comradestannis The framework was made with the industrial era and what they thought began as a way to make their lives easier, it only ended up increasing the demand from each of them because now all the tasks from before became automated. It logically should have gone the other way and freed us up for creative and intellectual or industrial endeavours, but instead we're on forklifts loading millions of dollars of goods for a country we've never visited.

It's "Running the streets." People can't stay home and just mind their own business. Gotta run from person to person, activity to activity, shopping here and shopping there. Gotta be in everyone's face.
Keep in mind that it was emptyness that gave birth to richness and fullness because it could not contain anything less than perfection itself because in its inner core emptyness is perfect and perfection is empty.
Actually, relationships today often aren't serial but non-existent. So, not just lower birth and marriage rates and later start in these areas but low rates of sexual activity. Japan is an example.

We would have viewing parties growing up for tv shows and of course LAN parties. I miss that…
lol I remember, that show was my redpill into Hollywood garbage, and the hackfrauds that create the shows.
✨Thank you Einzelganger!✨
I have literally been thinking about this exact topic the past week & you upload this video, perfect timing / synchronicity ! I appreciate your work, thanks
I very much liked the vita contemplativa vs vita activa conclusion of the video. Very good advice. I wish I could live this way. This world just won't let you slow down....
Informative as always.
Beautiful. I love to contemplate in nature. Meditation helps me to let go of time. Your video reminds me to make more room in my life for contemplation.🙏🏼
Thank you for this. it's one perfect video added to my favorites as usual from this channel.
All the people around me run as if they were in a race where there is no finish line...
They run and run, they suffer because they don't have enough time
Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing things wrong, but then I tell myself that I'm very lucky, because I have time, because I have peace of mind and nobody can take it away from me
I don't have to compare myself. Even so, social pressure is very strong.
I’ve been chilling my whole life youth was good but now I’m stuck in a low wage job. Should have kept myself busy with studying and internships …
I’m always wondering if you don’t run run run, don’t you have to work, study or feed your kids…. Is it all about the money?
@@lobiaking8318 don't take that as an excuse to don't work at all, what that mean is you don't wanna sacrificing your inner peace to endless works that lead to burnout, some amount of work is necessary but anything that is too much is bad (like wise work and leisure)
@@lobiaking8318 In my case, I rest, but I focus 100% on studying. I think we have to find a balance... I don't want to sacrifice my mind or my body
I want to find a well-paid job, but I know my limits and I know my capacity, I can't study and work at the same time... It's about not letting the system corrupt you and exhaust you. There's plenty of time ahead.
@@dutchdude123 That's what they want you to believe
So enlightening, thank you for sharing 🙂
Such a profound content! Thank you so much for this valuable piece of wisdom. We all need it as we contribute to the endless cycles of grinding our lives into what we falsely believe to be life.
I needed to see this today. Thank you
I find 3 most interesting points from the video: 1/ The Modern Sisyphus 2/ The Temporal Crisis 3/ The Art of Lingering. Thank you so much!
Funny how so many of us will find it difficult to stop from watching another video after watching this.
I.e. using time vs contemplating
We all see on social media "influencers" who make it seem like they're having the best times of their lives and it makes the viewers question their own life and question themselves feeling unfulfilled
Truly amazing. Thanks for sharing the wonder of this existence.
Great as always
Thank you for motivating to start my UA-cam channel I appreciate you a lot ❤❤ I hope everything goes according to plan 🤞🏻
Good luck!
@ Thank you Comrade
what a great video and content, it gave me new perspective in life which i impossible to think by myself.

05:20-06:32 fear of missing out and the experience of long duration of time
This comes just in the right time. Thank you.
Every video is thought provoking. Thank you
This really touches my heart. It teaches us the drastic importance of slowing down in this drastic fast paced and almost, suicidal exicistance. Life of the past was slower and more absorbable.
The only thing I can say is to just do what fulfills you. Mental collapse has made me realize this. I am over the whole (society). Be you and do you.
depression is one of the main disseases of our time. The reason for this is systemic - we as a society have to change our perspective on life or we will suffer. I am glad you could change your path, I am in the process to do so, too.
Meditation guys. Meditation.
There are lots of artists who put their blood, sweat and tears into their work and yet that effort rarely pays off. 😥
Yessss! Love this, definitely need to check out his books
In comptemplative times , we relax , allow thoughts to float , reflect and refine or restructure even ...
A balance or harmony between work and life ...
The more you work on yourself , the less you care about others.
The more you work on your goals,
the less you care about your doubts.
I see what you did there at the end...
That's the gist of it! Love it❤
Just what I needed right now. Thankyou 😊🇦🇺
Thanks!

I've studied philosophy, theology, and various scripture for decades. BC Hanh changed my approach to many of these texts, enriching them. Plus, I utilize his thought in my Zen priest practice. Thanks for the video.
What a great video brother🙌🙌
Isn't it, maybe, because 'time' also feels like moving faster, that we're persuing to go along with it?
At the other hand: i really feel that so much comes to me naturally, from 'not pursuing' or 'chasing goals'... 😮 My need is to stand still, in quietly seeking my own way to heal, to thrive and to explore this world. And most of all, it lies in the attraction to nature! 🥰🙏🏻❤️🔥
Hit 350k today. Thank you for all the knowledge and nuggets you had thrown my way over the last months. Started with 14k last year 2023, God bless America ❤️🇺🇲

Thanks to my co-worker whom God used to give a great opportunity of crossing paths with 'Mrs ANGELA MARIE BROWN'.
She's a licensed broker here in the states🇺🇲 and finance advisor.
YES!!! That's exactly her name (Angela Marie Brown) so many people have recommended highly about her and am just starting with her Brisbane Australia🇭🇲
I have heard a lot of wonderful things about Angelia Marie Brown on the news but didn't believe it until now. I'm definitely trying her out
I lived more in the past 6 days than I have in the past 6 months. Only difference "Viva Contemplativa".

We are on Hedonism grounds!
(Loved your book btw!) Keep up the great work! cheers!
Excellent video. As for actual human connection, we are extremely isolated as a whole. People get wrapped up in the News, Politics, fear mongering, etc, which leads to hatred and violence as a result of the fear. Vast oceans of information across the world with those images or images due to having access to all of those adult websites were not meant for us. They've proven to be destructive and have divided people and human connection. Even making friends or looking for romantic partners has devolved into "Look at some pics of them, then swipe left or right".
English spoken with a Dutch accent sounds so nice. Content is great too.
If there is anyone who is truly picking up what is happening with our society, his name is Han Byung-Chul…
Needed this video.Thank you for uploading
Thank you for this video. All of my 3 channels are subscribed to your channel.
I took a sabbatical when I was 42, the best moments of which were aimless bike rides through the trails behind my childhood home, no job, no car, no phone on me, no camera, not really sure about any purpose other than to find a certain place in my mind
Tolle Arbeit! 🌟 Absolutely love this!
i have found a way to carry vita complentiva into work. for vast tracts of my work i simply meditate. its similar to the type of meditation you can do while mindlessly dancing yoga. i mindlessly dance my work. feels good.
I liked how The Penguin was done. New episode every week. Would watch it with family. Gave us something shared to talk about.
Appropriation of time and life in shared ritual is the freshest philosophical idea I have heard in a while.
After reading some of Han's work and now listening to this very neat summary, it has become clear to me that this is exactly what is wrong with my life. I am making this the foundation of my new year's resolution to put quality over quantity and to try and live the "viva contemplativa".
This video sparked new ideas for me. Could you explore the parallels between Stoicism and the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi?
This video should be required viewing for everyone in the modern age with a screen and an internet connection.
In my experience Ramadan is a month of test for your physical and mental toughness.
It's not for the weak.
You must give up food sex and drinks or any thing that is against God rules.
Ramadan makes you strong from inside out.
Exceptional video, I have no affinity with modern "rat-race" life with all is stupidity. Thank you.❤
I would say there is too much coherence, direction and meaning in regards to time.
We have to remember that we are all children inside that long to be friendly to one another. If you remember that and you just confidently go for it out in public. I swear everyone out there loves that sht. Every last gangster or old lady old man. Country dude. They are all just a friendly little child inside. When you invite tbat part out of everyone and let them know right off the bat. Your friendly. They really lighten up. No "appearing hard" no playing it cool. Just genuine being friendly. Its all what we want.
Thank you so much !!! ❤🙏💐
Feeling empty and stoic is the best approach in life you will never be disappointed
Great video.

We need to unionize, tbh, but even then, it's not a panacea, and work culture entering your own leisure is not good.
@@CraigStCyrPlus yeah, agreed.
That's why we have to organize, but again, no sure fire way to deal with this problem. We live on a surplus of materials and wealth yet most people won't have or enjoy it.
@@comradestannis Humans driven by either their fragile egos or mindless greed who make too much impact on society have always been society's cancers.
This road has been driven by us for so long that the vehicle we started with no longer resembles anything recognizeable.
If you are buying happiness, than you don't understand happiness.
It's "Running the streets." People can't stay home and just mind their own business. Gotta run from person to person, activity to activity, shopping here and shopping there. Gotta be in everyone's face.
Sounds like a you problem
@Random-ne3ed Nah, not my problem. You sound personally offended.
@@EarthWindFireable Your comment is you getting personally offended at everyone, "your problem" is you're projecting.

This was such a beautiful
Keep in mind that it was emptyness that gave birth to richness and fullness because it could not contain anything less than perfection itself because in its inner core emptyness is perfect and perfection is empty.
Completely loved it
Actually, relationships today often aren't serial but non-existent. So, not just lower birth and marriage rates and later start in these areas but low rates of sexual activity. Japan is an example.
Monogamy is not a precondition for meaningful relationships, or even quality.
