good explanation, but for me as a beginner got lost, cause I can't read anything from your screen 'cause everything is blurry. I'm trying to do interior ship-lap and I can't find the way. any help?
As far as the video being blurry..make sure you click on the gear icon on the UA-cam screen (bottom right) and select "quality"...and make sure you pick the best. There are a number of ways to put ship lap on the walls...so, if you send me an email to: steve@mychiefskills.com I'll make you q quick video showing a couple methods.
Awesome channel. I've used CA for 20 years and love it. Been looking for a way of showing a 3D Spanish tile roof. Any suggestions or referrals? I've only seen the pain staking method using sketchup. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Cannot get my doors to cut the molding using Molding Polyline like yours. Was thinking of then converting my windows to Door Symbols so that they cut the molding, would that work?
Well - it’s a work around. If you move a wall or change the design you will have to edit the material region. It’s a way to get some depth to show in a render view. I think a better way would be to locate a decent texture and save it as a material and use it as a siding.
Just did a test run. The wall can be moved and even broken and turned. However, the length of the original material region will remain. So if you lengthen it the new wall area will not have the material region. Conversely, if you shorten the wall the original material regions will remain where the wall was previously and you will have to remove them. Side note, I did this vertically to create an authentic looking B&B siding, it looks great! But it's definitely something you want to do when you know the exterior walls are completed. Thanks again!
Yep - using a MR for this is a work around and you’d only want to apply them when the plan is basically done. Kind of like using P-Solids for some custom trim...then you change the design and the solids no longer work.
Nice technique. I might try this for board and batten. Unless you have other recommendations
Seems to me that the simple way to create true board and batten is to use material regions.
I’m going try this for board and batten. The material region can be textured like the siding, yes? Will try on the morning.
Material regions can be any material…
Great job
I think you could use this technique to make square logs for cabins too.

Nice! Does the wall retain the material regions if it is edited, say lengthen or moved?
