    It is a shame the world lost Karen Carpenter so young. Her doctor did a poor job managing her anorexia nervosa diagnosis and treatment that caused her health to fail. This did not need to happen but all water under the bridge unfortunately. Thanks for posting this video!

      @@doctorrobert60 Much was still not known about anorexia… I’m sure in retrospect, even the doctor may feel he was mad at certain aspects. Phil Ramone’s wife, “Itchy” (Karen Itchiguma) was forthcoming about a lot of the details happening at the time. Levenkron had a great BS detector and didn’t let Karen get away with much. Roy Coleman’s bio is a terrific source- as is the more recent “Little Girl Blue” by the great Randy Schmidt (which got more people close to her, to open up… And something about the statute of limitations for her ex-husband, could reveal new details now…. ) Best, VJ

      Karen constantly sabotaged her Dr's orders & treatments. She walked or jogged to & fro his office for her appointments, rather than using public transportation while In NYC. In addition, she hid Dulcolax™ Tablets in her Hotel room, taking 18 pills per Day! She was honest as the Days are long, but when it came to her health, lied like a rug!

    I still say that if Karen had not allowed her family to force her to give up the right to do what she loved most which was drumming/singing she might
    still be alive today and I think Richard will be haunted by this to his dying day whether or not he admits it.

    • @Boondoggle6969
      @Boondoggle6969 8 місяців тому

      I think it's easy to just blame Richard for getting her off the drums and putting her up front, and that's probably what set her eating disorder in motion, but that sort of thing doesn't just come out of nowhere. I'd blame her parents most for prioritizing Richard and his music career so much growing up along with whatever else her mother may have said to her

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown 6 місяців тому +1

      She destroyed herself. Nobody to blame but her. You can not force a self-destructive person to change. How many mothers in the world are imperfect? Richard tried to help her, he tried everything he could and he has his own life to live you know. You would not have done any better, so stop blaming people you don't even know.

    This comment is for the man who says he’s not “religious;” well...GOOD FOR YOU!
    In the Old Testament of the Bible, the Savior of the world is prophesied. His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus, the Son of God, exposed the”religious” people of the day: they were arrogant hypocrites, who put more faith in money
    and in their “good works” which they would pridefully announce in the public square. This is how sinful “religious” people can be. “Their hearts are far from me,” the precious Lord would say about these kind of people. Please don’t confuse “religious” people with “true believers.” Just believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved!
    Jesus saved sinners (we all fall into that category) by dying on the cross in our place! As we put all our lives into His hands and walk by faith, not by sight, we can join Him in Heaven one day! All who are not saved by the blood of the lamb are, unfortunately, headed for Hell.
    I sang the entire “Close to you” album in 7th grade and my brother jokes that I am Karen Carpenter to his Richard!

    Yes, finally released on “As Time Goes By” in 2001 in Japan and internationally 2 years later, rectifying a huge oversight. The song was written by Al Anderson when he was a member of The Wildweeds (No Good To Cry), a group out of Connecticut that should have been more successful then they were. Al went on to play lead guitar for NRBQ and his songwriting credits includeTim McGraw's #1 song "The Cowboy in Me", Vince Gill's "The Next Big Thing" and co-writing"License To Chill"and "Trip Around The Sun" with Jimmy Buffett.
