The guy always loved Futaba, waited years to meet her again, noticed her in the hallway first, started the story, flirted with her (even named his cat after her) and did everything so she'd fall for the new him not the old. He's really obsessed with her, wanted to be with her but thought she didn’t like man at first and that he didn’t deserve to be happy, to cry or move on from his mothers death. It's thx to Futaba he realised it was fine and it was all going good till Kou heard that Narumi was all alone like he used to be. She manipulated him thought his trauma and he saw "little Kou" in her. He fell into a state full of self-doubt, fears, self-hatred and guilt, guilt for moving on from his mothers death, fear of hurting futaba in a relationship (explained in the manga) and doubts of being allowed to become happy. It's thanks to Futaba his hero, he could finally see clear again that being around Narumi will only harm him and that time was standing still. In the manga he even tried to talk to Futaba but she pushed him away after Narumi got into her head despite Futaba's impression being true. She drags Kou down into his past not the future.
We then see Kou trying to fix everything but Touma rushed Futaba and demanded a yes because he was afraid of losing. Now kou isn't perfect but neither a bad guy, he is imperfect, a flawed teen that tried to do his best.

It's saddens me how people don't understand Kou yet glorify the Pick Me who manipulated Futaba into a relationship whilst she was vulnerable.
we understand that Kou made a choice... and that's to hurt her... He can tell her everything why he needs to accompany the other girl. Why ignore her? 🤷 i don't glorify the new boyfriend. She deserves to be happy.

@@jinky_solomon You did not understand and the drama didn't properly explain it but Kou heard Naru i was all alone which triggered his trauma. He saw himself in Narumi, wished someone would've been there for him and gave up fighting. Kou was trapped on self-doubts, self-hatred and guilt, felt that he didn't deserve to be happy, that a relationship would hurt futaba and that he wasn't allowed to be happy. Thx to Kominato and Futaba they pulled him out of it and he realised time wasn't standing still that it's fine for him to move on from his mother's death. Kou then finally could see the sunset in colors and appreciate it's beauty.
@@jinky_solomon As for Narumi, if you see your friend who helped you fit into your new school sad wouldn't you try to be there for them or feel as if you own them smth? Kou tried to be the emotional support he never had but it backfired and dragged him down into his own misery as the girl manipulated him through his trauma. It was more about Kou and his own trauma than her.
As for Touma yeah people and perhaps the drama itself glorify him compared to the manga. He made mistakes like Kou, dragged a vulnerable girl into a relationship and rushed her because he knew Kou at that point was trying to fix everything. He himself admitted it and o/c Futaba deserves to be happy.

@@jinky_solomon But Kou didn't act as her boyfriend, in the manga he made it clear that he has 0 interest in her and he knew that a relationship would harm Futaba whilst he helped her. It was also more about Kou himself, his depression, self-doubts, fear, anxiety and trauma. She triggered his PTSD and he simply gave up on moving forward because of the guilt he felt towards his mother.

Kou never avoided Futaba, I don't know where you get the ghosting part from? They still talked but she pushed him away after he gave her the rejection she wanted.
That's not a nice thing to say, depressed people deserve love too and anyone even the most perfect boyfriend might be hit by it. Like look at Robi Williams, the man was known as the happiest man yet took his life or the lead singer of Linkin Park. Trauma can always relapse and Kou tried to do his best. I think many of us would've acted the same way he did in his position. He wasn't undecive nor easily swayed (idk what u mean by that) either. Kou always and only ever loved Futaba/wanted to be with her but he couldn't let go of the guilt he was feeling for moving on from his mother's death. It's only thx to Kominato and Futaba he realised time wasn't standing still and before Narumi showed back up in his life he was set on being with Futaba.
I think it was good that Kou faced his trauma before dating Futaba, he is a good guy just imperfect and owns up to his mistakes. It's smth not many ppl do. Tbvh I think you should try understand him little more and look up mental health awarness. I had depression too due to bullying I received but thx to my boyfriend and family, I got better.

I agree! Kou is so indecisive. It's like he likes her, but doesn't really want to date her. His hot and cold behaviour is really getting on my nerves. And the way he's so often mean to her... Friends say mean stuff to each other all the time, but not the way he does it. Also his actions; he does something to keep her by his side romantically and after successfully confusing her heart, he shuts himself off again and keeps her at a distance, hurting her along the way (and it's not only her feelings for him, but her as his friend as well). Can we call it gatekeeping at this point?
Touma manipulated the girl into a relationship whilst she was vulnerable, kept pressuring her to get his way and couldn't accept a no as an answer. He rushed her after he saw Kou trying to fix everything and only ever cared about winning. He isn't the right 1 nor cared about her happiness or wellbeing.
As for Kou he always put efforts into it, he saved her multiple times, flirts with her, hoped she's like the new him not the 1 from the past and was the 1 who noticed her in the hallway.

He fell into misery, thought a relationship would hurt Futaba and felt guilty for moving forward with his life. It's thanks to Futaba, his hero, that Futaba could see clear again but then Touma rushed her into a relationship because he saw Kou hugging her and trying to talk with her. He knew he was losing and it's Futaba who distanced herself from Kou.
As for him being mean, he apologised for it and realised it's better to be honest with your feelings. That's why in the manga we see him praise her several times. For him she is perfect the way she is.

Personally saying i don't think he deserves her she is happy with someone else and he should accept that and move on like she is doing no hate just my personal opinion. And hopefully she will not end up with him at last , i just saw 3 episode of season second.
