Very helpful video! I've owned the V10 for a week now and am so excited to familiarize myself with the manual controls. This helped me understand them better! :)
Thank you so much for the information that you shared. It's my first time to own LG G5 and I am not familiar with the manual mode. Thank you very much for these tips and it's really helpful. I hope you'll post some other tips and tricks on playing woth the manual shooting mode. Thank you again!
+gbear12280 thanks! ND filters are great. I've been using a semi cheap circular ND filter on my DSLR for a while now and have gotten great results. Although having a graduated ND filter could be a bit more useful sometimes. I have used it to simply cover the lens on my V10 and try a longer exposure during the day. It works decently, but keep in mind that if you want a longer exposure during the day, the f/1.8 aperture actually works against you since it lets in a lot more light than you want. You will need a very dark ND filter if you want to use it with a phone. Something like a 10 stop filter.
Nice video, though there is one inaccuracy -- unchecking AE-L (Auto Exposure Lock) only resets the ISO and shutter speed. White balance and focus will remain the way they were -- either as you set it, or on auto. To fully reset, you need to uncheck AE-L, go to MF and click Auto, and to to WB and click Auto.
+Inquisitve m thanks for the comment. The two dashes are the level when they're straight it means your shot is straight. If they're crooked then your shot is not straight. Could you explain what you mean by showing manual mode in action? I think I've shown everything in the video
Hello man i have to say yout explanation was great! Although i tried to take a picture like yours in 04:57 but i failed! My room was absolutely dark except my pc's monitor! Shutter Speed 30 Secs, ISO 50! A little bit of help would be nice! Anyway greetings from Greece
watching the video, the G5 what is highest ISO that can reach ? i am considering move from an Lumia 950 to an G5 and am looking by something similar in terms of manual settings
+Fr g not sure about the G5 max ISO, but on my V10 it's 2700. But honestly, I would not focus on a max ISO since you won't get great photos at high ISO on a smartphone camera since the sensor is so small.
Hi DrumNTech, I can't seem to have shutter speed set to 1/20 . But when I enable auto exposure, I see that shutter speed can go to 1/20. But manually, I cannot set it to anything between 1/15 and 1/30. Kindly help.
+DrumNTech I can set to either 1/15 or 1/30 but not in between. there are prescribed shutter speeds that I can toggle between but can't set it to something else in between.
+Hassan Butt Unfortunately, doing night sky/star photography is fairly difficult unless you're in a very dark place. I live near a large city, so the amount of noise pollution makes it hard.
+DrumNTech some people said that when u record a video, the audio doesnt synchronized to the subject..example when u talking in the video the audio gets delayed..did u get what am I saying? sorry if u didnt understand im not good in english.....and does the v10 suffer from bootloop too?
+Omega King I see. I don't often record videos, I mostly just take photos. However, I haven't had that issue. As for the bootloop, there have been people experiencing it with the V10, unfortunately.
+Omega King I do still use a V10. The experience is fine. It does lag sometimes and the battery is very poor. But I like that I can replace the battery. However, I do like having an SD card and the manual camera is still one of the best.
+DrumNTech thanks dude, one more question. The camera mount you used looks awesome but the one in the link is orange. is it possible to get it in the same colorway as yours?
+Donovan Ingram not sure. I would just look around. There's a ton of different models that are similar. The one I bought was 20 dollars. You can probably get the same one for 15 to 20. I wouldn't opt for something below 10 dollars though because it might be too cheap and will break easily.
+Carlos Felipe Araújo Yeah. If you press the AE-L button it will reset everything except the white balance. In order to reset the white balance, you can click the "auto" button at the top of the slider.
+mike cummings I think if you pull manual focus all the way up to the icon of the mountain, it focuses to the farthest point which I believe is the same as infinity.
+Jaco San what's the fastest speed on the G5? You'll almost never use 1/6000 anyway. It would result in a very dark image unless you're in extremely bright light.
+2225thechad I can't remember the name of it, but if you look up smartphone tripods on amazon you'll find a lot of different ones. Get one with flexible legs.
+David Spadaccia if you click the MF (manual focus) button, on top of the slider on the right hand side you'll see an "auto" button. Click that. That's the only thing in manual that can affect focus.

This is ,by far, the best video about the lg v10's camera that I've watched.
+Jay El Thanks! Appreciate it =)
Very helpful video! I've owned the V10 for a week now and am so excited to familiarize myself with the manual controls. This helped me understand them better! :)
+Jenn Jackson glad I could help!

Thank you for explaining what my phone camera is capable of
Awesome explanations man.. Thank you for doing it in a very simple, layman way.. You just got yourself one more subscriber..!!
+shreyushah Thanks a ton! Glad you found it helpful!
Great explanation of manual controls. Thanks.
+Greg Sherman Glad you liked it!
Extremely useful video, thanks a lot.
+jerc18 thanks for the comment! Glad you found it useful.
I love your explanation, I have the V10, even though I have a DSLR, I will be shooting more with the V10
+Sub Sonic Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I do shoot more with my DSLR. But its handy to have the V10 for quick shots.
Excellent review.Simple and on point.
+Cristi Soare Thank you!
been looking for a way to take trail shots and I thinku helped me understand the settings on the v20 thank you!
+smith tyler glad I could help!
DrumNTech yea people don't really get into it in any videos took me a lil bit to find this lol
Hello. I have the LG V20 phone. Shoots well, but is the F-stop(aperature) set at F1.8? Or, is there a way to change it? Another app maybe? Thanks.
Thanks! My dad just got a pixel phpne with night vision camera bit seems you can do it manually on lg g5 ?
This is exactly how I like things explained, thanks so much.
+Kop185 no problem!
Great job, I'd be curious to see your take on ND filters I've been getting into that myself.
+gbear12280 thanks! ND filters are great. I've been using a semi cheap circular ND filter on my DSLR for a while now and have gotten great results. Thanks for the video man, hoping to see more tips for the G4/V10 camera :)
+Alejandro Gonzalez Thanks for the comment! I will try to put some more out. =]
nice explanations... got my LG V10.. this helped a lot
+denzel casabuena glad I could help =)
The AE-L is not a rest button. It is Auto Exposure. Notice when you turned it of the grey out on the manual exposure was usable.
+Chris Barr yup, thanks! Someone pointed that mistake out before and I believe that I fixed it in an annotation.
+Chris Barr yup, thanks! Someone pointed that mistake out before and I believe that I fixed it in an annotation.
While the G5 does fall short in some areas, it's camera specs & features are quite impressive, even for being a couple years old now.
Please DO make a detailed video on manual capture and video for LG v10 :)
Ah you're right. Thanks for the correction.
I wished you would explain the two dashes that stick out in middle of frame and show us manual mode in action
+Inquisitve m thanks for the comment. The two dashes are the level when they're straight it means your shot is straight. If they're crooked then your shot is not straight. Could you explain what you mean by showing manual mode in action? I think I've shown everything in the video
Awesome video, very helpful.
My question is, does the LG G5 come with the same manual controls as the V10 and G4?
+Stephane Mendes Thanks! it does come with the same manual controls for photos, but not videos.
This was very helpful. I have a G4 that I am going to try take a lot of similar shots with. thank you.
+Ma Nam No problem, glad it helped =]
hi can I ask if you can change the aperture during manual mode. thank you
+july baldoza phone cameras have a fixed aperture, so that is not something that you can change on any phone currently.
thank you.
+Juniorak1 I'm glad you found it helpful! How was the picture different? Was it too dark?
TOO DARK actually.... i am a little bit dissapointed to be honest!!
+DrumNTech does the lg g4 have a hdr option on the camera.
watching the video, the G5 what is highest ISO that can reach ? i am considering move from an Lumia 950 to an G5 and am looking by something similar in terms of manual settings

well never use high ISO unlesss be using tripod either on windows phone but always is handy to have high iso althought the iso noise is what can occur
Is this lg could take a great dynamic range as pixel if lg set to manual mode???
+zul piz no, HDR is not an option in manual mode.
How about on lg g6?
Got a new subscriber mate!
+Jesus Jackson thanks so much!
Hi DrumNTech, I can't seem to have shutter speed set to 1/20 . But when I enable auto exposure, I see that shutter speed can go to 1/20. But manually, I cannot set it to anything between 1/15 and 1/30. Kindly help.
+Sunny Sawrav hmm that's strange. Are you sure you're in manual mode? It should be the second button down on the side panel.
+DrumNTech I can set to either 1/15 or 1/30 but not in between. there are prescribed shutter speeds that I can toggle between but can't set it to something else in between.
Thank you so much :)
Manual camera rocks!
please do some night sky photography with g4/v10
thanks
+Hassan Butt Unfortunately, doing night sky/star photography is fairly difficult unless you're in a very dark place. I live near a large city, so the amount of noise pollution makes it hard.
does the video doesnt sync in audio when video recording? hope u reply sir.
+Omega King sorry, I'm not understanding the question. Can you rephrase? Thanks.
+DrumNTech do u use v10 until now? and hows ur xperience?
+Omega King I do still use a V10. The experience is fine. It does lag sometimes and the battery is very poor. But I like that I can replace the battery. However, I do like having an SD card and the manual camera is still one of the best.
is it ppssible to change the aperture?
+Pradyun Setti No, 99% of smartphone cameras have a fixed aperture lens. There are no moving parts.
Great video! I learned something from it and that's always a good thing. Very much appreciated. (=
+David Septimo thanks for the comment! Happy to teach =)
I'm going to need the name of the editing app you mentioned in the video. :\
+Donovan Ingram snapseed and lightroom mobile.
+DrumNTech thanks dude, one more question. The camera mount you used looks awesome but the one in the link is orange. is it possible to get it in the same colorway as yours?

amazing and helpful video. thank you!
+Jorge Garcia thanks! Glad you found it helpful!
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you!
+John Lester Bumanglag glad I could help!
is posible reset the manual settings?
+Carlos Felipe Araújo Yeah. If you press the AE-L button it will reset everything except the white balance. In order to reset the white balance, you can click the "auto" button at the top of the slider.
should be easier lol but its for professionals thx
DrumNTech is it possible for infinity focus
+mike cummings I think if you pull manual focus all the way up to the icon of the mountain, it focuses to the farthest point which I believe is the same as infinity.
lg g5 manual mode has no record button, just photo button, why?
+EpicPlayer I believe the G5 doesn't include the manual video unfortunately. Just a feature for the V10. Not sure why they removed it.
:/ ok ty
great video
+Joey J Thanks, man!
my g5 don't have the 1/6000 option for fast capture
+Jaco San what's the fastest speed on the G5? You'll almost never use 1/6000 anyway. It would result in a very dark image unless you're in extremely bright light.
1/3000 I think
1/3200
+Jaco San I see. Well that still shouldn't be an issue. It's plenty fast.
Oh OK just getting used to these phone and need to try it out on manual
please mention the names of the apps in the description
+Anand Sunku snapseed and lightroom mobile.
what tripod do you use?
+2225thechad I can't remember the name of it, but if you look up smartphone tripods on amazon you'll find a lot of different ones. Get one with flexible legs.
+DrumNTech thanks for the info. I ordered a 50" tripod to use like a traditional camera set up. was there any reason you preferred the bendable legs?
+2225thechad it's just more portable. And you can attach it to poles by bending. Although I don't trust it too much to do that.
!Great video
I do astralphotography and my lg g5 does really good for a phone doesn't compare to my dlsr but still good
very useful! Thanks!
Thanx DrumNTech! Nice video. Hope it would work for moto phones too because i just bought one.
+vivan garg glad I could help!
Will help me alot .. Thanks mate... :)
+M Taaha Habib (Cray Xee) no problem, glad it did =)
Very useful. Thanks
my camera doesn't focus as well as it used to after messing around in manual. can anyone help?
+David Spadaccia if you click the MF (manual focus) button, on top of the slider on the right hand side you'll see an "auto" button. Click that. That's the only thing in manual that can affect focus.
+David Spadaccia if you click the MF (manual focus) button, on top of the slider on the right hand side you'll see an "auto" button. Click that. That's the only thing in manual that can affect focus.
+DrumNTech it still won't focus on a cable box maybe 6 feet away
+David Spadaccia does it work in auto? Manual can't affect anything in auto.

the only camera smartphone feature that you can't manually control is aperture 😆
