It’s all about the intake/payout ratios. If machines are paying then the casino has to disperse in order to meet the overall payout percentage.
That's not true in the slightest. Each slot machine has a set payout percentage its meant to payout over its several year long lifetime. It does this by having x% of outcomes paying back nothing x% of outcomes hitting smal and x% of outcomes hitting big. Within the slot machine there is a random number generator spitting out one of millions of combinations, thousands of times per second.
Whatever randomized number you hit when you click the "spin" button determines what your result will be.
Well regulated Casinos don't change the payout on a whim because one is paying high. While they technically could do this, NV and NJ have a lot of laws about how often and by how much they're allowed to do so. For example, Casinos have to file paperwork on every machine they change. If the NV gaming condition finds even a single machine that was "tampered with" and not reported, the casino could lose its gaming license.
