Norway, queen of last places in the grand final😂 (so undeserved) and truly unique winners😍. 1995 and 2009 just scream winner, this is exactly what is Eurovision winner for me: something we haven't heard before, some great idea behind and an amazing live performance (especially 1995, it's really timeless at least because we'll never see something like this again with modern Eurovision rules)

Guys 1978 is one of the most iconic moments in Norwegian Eurovision history with Jahn Teigen’s _Mil etter mil._ His zero points is iconic and how he managed to leverage an entire music carrier on iit and then get sendt back to Eurovision twice more (82 and 83) I will never know, but that song hit gold and platinum in Norway and Sweden. He became a national treasure until his death earlier this year. Also _Voi Voi_ is a significant song. Dolli Delux Is a pretty famous band too, they famously combined Opera and Rock in their album. There is actually lots of iconic moments you didnt get simply because you don’t get the culture. Mostly though Jahn Teigen. When England got 0 points a few years ago they reffered to Jahn Teigen and Norway, and how the rolls were reversed. Please you must understand.

The girl from 71 is Hanne Krogh who came back in 85 as half of Bobbysocks, and won ( the other girl in Bobysocks also became nr 6 wit duett in 94, and nr 2 in 96 with i Evighet). Another fun fact: The winner in 85( La det svinge) and the winner in 95(Nocturne) is both written by Rolf Løvland, who also wrote the world monster hit You rais me up.

15:20 The Norwegian Eurovision style is something us Norwegians don't understand either. Eurovision is a great opportunity for us to make fun of ourselves. ;-)

For your information. The singer from 1971 (the young girl with the umbrella) is also part of the Bobbysocks (their first win) and came back in 1991 with Just4Fun. Also Norway had the first person in drag on stage as backup dancer for Romeo in 1986.

Fun fact that dancer Jhonny Nymonen is my Uncles childhood friend and I love the Song and it should have finisht much higher than 12th place out of 20

-Norway has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 58 times since making its debut in 1960 and has only been absent twice since then. In 1970, the country boycotted the contest over disagreements about the voting structure, and in 2002, they were relegated.
-Norway finished last in the final for the 11th time. Norway has the two dubious distinctions of having finished last in the Eurovision final more than any other country and for having the most "nul points" in the contest, failing to score a point four times, in 1963, 1978, 1981 and 1997. Austria has also scored "nul points" four times.
-Before 1985, Norway had only reached the top five in two out of 24 attempts and had finished last six times. In 1985, Bobbysocks gave the country its first victory.
-Norway has a total of 11 top five and 24 top ten results in the contest.

As a Norwegian, I must say I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Every year in the competitions to select who's going to represent Norway in Eurovision there is a wide variety of acts and genres; good, bad, weird, fun, it's all there. And somehow, most years some boring ballad ends up winning the national final. It is infinitely frustrating!

  • @sikksnakk

    This was funny.
You so live up to the stereotype of eurovision nerds. A gang of happy boys dooing hands up and uladoola singalong while commenting on costumes and stage performances.
And you hit the nerve of eurovision spot on.
I love this reaction. You got a new subscriber.

Alot of the older songs that sound the same to outsiders does indeed have a very special place in our hearts, theyre inside jokes on many levels and have ironically gone from being bad to just. Eh fuck it this shit is a bop now. I have had my cowoker and my brother (neither have ever met eachother) both just run around sining on "JOIIIIK HAAAR STØRRE KRAAGT EN KRUUUUT" For literally weeks. ITS 2020

It was mine comment and yes it is true. All the tapes of 1964 contest were disappeared as a result of a fire at the studios of Danish broadcaster DR in the 1970s and the fact that none of the other broadcasters recorded the entire show.

The late 60's and 70's was a time of huge economic boom in Norway, going from a relatively poor rural country to one of the wealthiest and most progressive nations on the planet.
This period was though also a time of great recession............
in the arts. Especially in pop music. This is basically a nouveau rich kid from abroad trying to be like the cool english speaking kids.

as much as i love fairytale and i was absolutely obsessed with alexander rybak back in 2009 i do agree with it sounding a bit dated 11 years on so i dont think i can call it my number 1 norway favourite anymore, also love silent storm 2014 but my number one has to be keiino it'll never get old

  • @twostepcub

oh man, Norway had some great songs but were so overwhelmed by rubbish. I LOOOOOOVE KEIINO (I was rooting for them to win that year), but they actually come in second here behind "I Feed You My Love", which is in my top-5 Eurovision songs of all time. "Silent Storm" comes in third. Cheers (catching up, missing Joy!)

  • @MouseGuardian

The 1980's one that was a bit funny is actually nice to see because it is a more or less indiginous people song, the sami people are included that year. Keino in 2019 too, but it wasn't that much of a big deal anymore then.

    Norway was/is always iconic
Their first winner Elizabeth i think (1985) she represented Norway in 1994, 1996 as well +she tried also represent Sweden in 2011.
    I love their 1995 entry (i think that song was in Shrek but they changed a bit the song for movie) +also like 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2013, 2006
Btw the guy who participated in 2015 co- wrote Ulrike song as well.
Agnete (2016) should've been in the final, sadly she had a bipolar illness😥

There are a lot of us in Norway who say that the Eurovision song contest isn't about the music, it is all about the circus. Good songs don't belong in the contest, only the circus and the crazy performances... So why we give you all this boring shit, I really don't know!

  • @Vinterloft
    @Vinterloft 4 роки тому

I disagree that "nothing in the contest makes you feel like Nocturne does" because I get a similar feeling from Bosnia's *Lejla* - Nocturne is better though I guess.
Also I voted for Karoline Krüger 1988, best lyrics in a Eurovision song ever but they're in Norwegian so

Now my personal oppinion about these is that 25% was pretty bad 60% was decent and 15% was good.
However I have a fucking bone to pick with icebreaker because it started good then this m.night shamylan looking plot twist happened early on and ive hated it since. The part after the twist is good on its own. The part before is really good if it got a full song. But as it stands ITS JUST TWO FUUUUCKING SONGS AND IT PISSES ME OFF

I love Norway in Eurovision.....well at least for the last 20 years anyway!!
I could pick so many as my favourite...Nocturne in 1995, was fabulous as was Bobbysocks " Let it Swing", "Silent Storm" is gorgeous, Tooji I loved etc etc......but for me Keiino has the quintessential Eurovision magic sprinkled all over it........👌👌👌
(By the way guys, if i remember correctly, you weren't exactly gushing when you reviewed "Spirit In The Sky".........how you have changed!!)...😂😂

Oh, the same feelings about 2014 and 2015. Silent Storm absolutely doesn't sound boring and whiny, it feels like a really genuine song with a personal story. Moreover, he sang it without backing vocalists, it sounded amazing. Along with the instrumentation and kinda unique structure it was a really good ballad that even I like it very much. But A Monster Like Me... the lyrics are not even whiny, it's a pure disaster, it seems like a story about a relationship between mentally ill people. This story literally sounds like "girl, I want to break up with you right now so that you don't live with such a monster like me, because I did something wrong when I was young"... What? But the worst is "just go to find your prince you thought you found in me"... Yes, "find your prince" in the 21st century... And the schmaltzy duet on the stage, a cheesy structure of the song... no, big no.
