Let Sharyn show you how to count cells in Excel - count cells including text AND values, how to count cells with only text, and how to count the number of times specific text occurs in a range
Thank you for sharing this video, very helpful. I have large number of rows and the list contains 1000s of employee names and I would like to count them. How do I go about doing that?
Hi there! The COUNTA function should help with this! If you're having no luck I'm happy to take a look at the file for you. Please ensure there is no confidential information in the file and send a copy to ask@excelatwork.co.nz 😊
@excelatwork Is it possible to count where there are multiple values in a cell, ie if you had “paid, outstanding” in one cell (I know it wouldn’t make sense in this particular example, but I have a sheet where an action owner sometimes has one name, which is fine, but sometimes 2 or more names against it. I want to count how many actions each person has! Including those shared actions)
Thanks for the video. Suppose you have the following text in a cell "ex123 and ex234" and you want to calculate the number of times "ex" appear in that cell. How is it done.
Hi there. If the ex is in the same cell it isn't easy in Excel. You could try copying the content of the cell into a new Word document, then place your insertion point at the top of the document, press Ctrl + F to open the 'Navigation' pane. Type ex into the 'Search' box and press ENTER. Word will show a 'Result' below the Search box. This will show how many times the ex was found in the document. I hope this helps.
