What a lot of people tend to forget that, once upon a time, Bret and Shawn were pretty good friends. If they hadn’t gone to Wembley for Summerslam 1992, they were gonna have it in Washington DC and have a ladder match where Bret WANTED to drop the IC title to Shawn. And even when you have a falling out with someone, you can still respect them for their talent
Bret said in his book that the plan was to have a 3rd match also and for Shawn to get the belt back. I'd have not liked that but a 1997 win for Bret would have made me able to live with it more.
I don't give a shit what anyone says. Bret Hart is the best I've had the good fortune of seeing in my lifetime. His matches were unparalleled. From his match with Davey Boy at Wembley, Owen at WM 10, Curt Henning, Roddy Piper, Shawn at Survivor series 92, Austin at Wm13. No one had the same caliber matches he's had in his career. It's a god damn shame it all ended the way it did, because I believe he had plenty left to offer the business. One of the greatest minds the business has ever seen.
His matches with Taker in 1997 were great too. The summer-slam match, One night only in UK were some matches. I liked the Final four a lot. Not the greatest match of the yr Bret had had, but still close enough. With opponents like Steve Austin, Vader and Taker, I don't think it could have been better.
Thats the difference between Bret and other wrestlers. Idiots don't understand why hes so great they just focus on his rants and shoots. Bret has extraordinary ring telling skills and spends his offtime visualizing whole matches like the one he had with Davey at Summerslam 92.
He and Owen worked out what they were going to do in their Wrestlemania match and ended up scrapping that whole idea because they figured it would end up making the fans cheer for Owen.

Man, I just gotta say. The Iron Man match at Wrestlemania 12 is my all-time favorite wrestling match. It's a shame it's been overshadowed by the screw job.
I gotta be honest, i think The Screwjob Match was pretty good for what it was. If there had to be an actual Clean Finish or Bret had to do business or whatever and no Screwjob ever took place, i think it would have been just as good as their WM12 match or better

I think Bret has leaned towards both Austin and Michaels as his faves to work with. I still kind of treasure the match he had with Shawn at Survivor Series 1992 and the one with Steve at Survivor Series 1996, partly because they're not necessarily the best remembered matches between them.
What is amazing is the importance of Bret Hart v Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series 92. Because of the BS that was going on with Hogan, Savage, Flair, the Ultimate Warrior and Sid Vicious (Sid Justice in WWF) Bret Hart and Michaels sort of got pushed into having to be main eventers almost over night. If you so remember, it was a champion v champion match, albeit only Hart's world title was in the line. Both if them had won the title devoid any build up to their title runs. Bret Hart out if nowhere beat Flair in a house match, and Shawn beat the British Bulldog on Saturday Night's Main Event for the IC title. There was something special about them. Because they rose to the occasion and out on a match that was amazing, even better than anything Hogan ever out on, especially both of them headlining a PPV for the first time in their careers. In 1990, I saw the Rockers v the Hart Foundation, and Demolition came out and a melee broke out. Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were going at it just five feet from. I would have never imagined those two would dominate wrestling and put on historic matches in just a few years.

It’s funny how Bret and Shawn were supposed to have the best matches of the year against one another in 1997. As it turned out, they would, but not against each other. Bret had his career match against Austin at WrestleMania and Shawn the best of his first run against Undertaker in the Cell.

That would've been cool. Before they fell out, Bret really wanted to make Shawn a big star. He knew that he was a bit younger and that Vince wanted him to be at the top of the card. An angle like this, where HBK gets a kayfabe broken leg/foot and then rehabs until he can come back and regain his title (maybe with a Bret heel turn) would've been great. Bret could've had the whole, "I beat you last time, and I would've won the Iron Man match if we didn't hit the time limit" schtick going on, with HBK vowing to come back stronger than ever. Still, I'm kinda glad that things went differently because Bret made Austin instead, and he got more over than any wrestler could dream of being.
Would probably been an amazing match but I wouldn’t trade Austin and Bret ‘s match for any other match in the world .. Greatest match of all time was given to us that night in Chicago 😍
Would've been cool, but Shawn would've deliberately ruined the match since he wasn't going over. That's why Shawn wasn't worth the time as a wrestler. You could never tell a good story with him because he would throw temper tantrums and lose the crowd as a babyface, and he would refuse to job or ruin the match deliberately when it was time to pay the fans off by losing as a heel.
@@EGarrett01 Shawn was a cancer in the company that needed to go. His backstage politics, him sabotaging other wrestlers and getting them fired and him refusing to do business the right way was really hurting the company. What I respect about Bret is that even when he hated Shawn at his most he has always talked about how he was one of his greatest opponents he’s ever faced!
I like Bret's idea but I would change the shoot hold to a sharpshooter with the tapout. But have Bret keep it on even longer just to the point where the officials are just about to reverse the decision before Bret lets go. Have Shawn out with a storyline back injury for abit. Have Austin feud with Bret then and during their match just as Austin has Bret beat Shawn comes back and attacks Bret while getting Austin disqualified. Then you have an issue between all three of them. Maybe have a SummerSlam triple threat match where Shawn goes over on Bret. Then Survivor Series have Bret and Austin one more time and have Austin go over clean, then win the rumble and beat Shawn clean at Mania 14. After that Austin be done with them both and move on to McMahon. Shawn and Bret could still feud for years after that.
The part that's left out is the Bret wanted to have a third match with Shawn on PPV where he would lose the belt back to Shawn and then he would finally shake his hand and acknowledge that Shawn was now the top guy. Not sure why Shawn hated the plan.
Bret forgot to mention it was going to be a hair vs. hair match at Wrestlemania 13. I wouldn't want either of these guys to lose their hair at the time, but it would have been interesting.
I don't think that the shoot hold would be a good idea. He should just hit the sharpshooter and go overboard with it, pretty much like he's punishing Shawn out of jealousy after he's already submitted and have Shawn sell a back injury for half a year.
Shame that it never happened, I did read rumors that it was down to Michaels not wanting to work with Bret and that the whole knee injury thing was a shtick so that he got out of wrestling Bret.
I wish we got more hbk and Bret matches before their relationship went to shit. I also would have loved to see hbk vs Austin when hbk was healthy and not just at kotr 97
I hope this is just a "dream scenario" that Bret envisioned to himself and not something that he legitimately thought would happen or pitched because if he did than he is crazy. Listen I'm about the biggest Bret fan there is but this would just be ridiculous and I wouldn't blame Shawn for "losing his smile" if this was what was pitched to him. This would just be the ultimate burial of HBK.
That doesn't sound like a burial to me, sounds like a huge heel turn for Bret and setup for HBK to come back as an even MORE over baby face looking for revenge.
@@rootzmagazine7119 That's exactly what was supposed to happen but we got the double turn with Austin vs Bret instead. Either way Bret was going to turn heel at WM13, it's just a shame that Shawn didn't want to do business and 'lost his smile'.
As Bret saw the story unfolding between he and Shawn is that after the "leg break" incident, later down the road (likely Survivor Series '97) HBK would get the win, the title, and the acknowledgment that he wanted from Bret. Unfortunately, that era of Shawn Michaels was too far stuck up his own A$$.

The part that's left out is the Bret wanted to have a third match with Shawn on PPV where he would lose the belt back to Shawn and then he would finally shake his hand and acknowledge that Shawn was now the top guy. Not sure why Shawn hated the plan.
That would of been a crazy ending to Wrestlemania 13.
Not gonna lie that would have been really cool
That would have been amazing
So, Shawn didn't want to lose the World Title in the ring? I'm shocked!
Bret Hart a true wrestling Legend much love to you my friend the best there is the best there was the best that will ever will be.
Shame that it never happened, I did read rumors that it was down to Michaels not wanting to work with Bret and that the whole knee injury thing was a shtick so that he got out of wrestling Bret.
the other 3 guys were doing mannequin challenge while bret talked
bret hart was one of the best.he worked with all the Greats in the Business and make them look good.Period.
Break boy toy foot. Make boy toy tap out. lol
Goku = Shawn Michaels, Vegeta = Bret Hart
No need for a writing team this guy could do it all himself
I wish we got more hbk and Bret matches before their relationship went to shit. I also would have loved to see hbk vs Austin when hbk was healthy and not just at kotr 97
And there you go, Bret was tryna do good for business. It was supposed to be HEAT
2:47
Could have had so much great content if those two would've put their pride aside.
Jealousy of Michaels is unreal
Jealous? He acknowledges HBK is the greatest he's wrestled
Bret is the 🐐
That would have been interesting. Lol
Have you ever seen Bret smile? Na, me neither. Lighten up pal
That would have been a great ending
is that a 7up JC is drinking?? wtf
That would've been sweet haha
I loved Shawn as a kid but I never understood the stripping
Bret lost his image about praising hbk as he always beaten him only once hbk won .....
Bret is making his own image down
Bret, i am so sorry. You were a great wrestler and an even better character.
But.......
This clip is less tham 3 minutes long. I nodded off somewhere between 1:10 and 1:30.
We all know you were the perennial baby face. But your mic worked peaked in 1997, with nowhere to go but down. Please accept the advice of a true fan: Hire aomeone to help you punch up you interview skills. Perhaps....Paul Heyman. Just watch him. His voice has range of volume, tone, and inflection. He works the crowd. He makes the story fun to hear.
He was the best on the mic in 97
Bret was at his best in '97 what the hell are you talking about? His promos were realistic af and him "snapping" on RAW and cussing out Vince was awesome. That was what really kicked the Attitude Era off before it officially began.
@@KB-hh8rt Eh..... I have to; respectfully, of course; disagree. Maybe its because i can appreciate Shaun's sarcastic as all hell persona.
Like Nash said in an interview....its great that Shaun found God and has settled down. But i miss him in the old days. That cat was a lot of fun to be around.
While that is paraphrased, i think the jist of it is still there.

Bret hart ist der beste
If you listen closely it almost sounds like Bret is whining, which really surprises me
Bitter Bret.
would have rather seen that ending, then some of the trash wwe sold us at that time
It’s 2019 and Bret has still not gotten over Shawn refusing to put him over.
Would you?
vik saggu at the end of the day it’s a job, I mean it might be a fun job but it’s a job nonetheless and you do what you’re asked in exchange for money. He ended up going to wcw for something like a $10m contract and the Goldberg incident aside that’s pretty good compared to what would’ve happened if he stayed in wwe
@@aaronneville1164 Shawn was a druggie douchebag that went into business for himself and 'lost his smile'.
Disrespect to put cross leg and your foot and shoes in Bret Hart face he is older than your father
the BEST!!! 🖕
LOL
Lol.
Yeah, because babyfaces maim their opponents in cold blood and them use a four-letter word on them WWE has always feared.
Some bitter for a guy who left cus he was greedy for more money plays the victim really well
Lol he left because Vince told him couldn't afford his contract.
@@nohbuddy1 yeah so he says in his non WWE filmed documentary lol he also was on a legends contract with Vince too yet daddies lil billionaire bitch paid him a lump sum much larger to be in a show that will be off air in a year lol I guess sting made the right move too looks like he took a page out of Bret's book go to aew do nothing get paid millions seems right
@@despicablemonster What do you mean so he says? That's what was reported and that's what indeed happened. Vince signed him to a 20 year dear in like 1996/1997 and then said he couldn't afford it and allowed Bret to go negotiate with WCW.
Yeah Sting also can't bump due to his neck and is 61 years old. Would you turn down $2 million a year?
@@nohbuddy1 omg clearly the point went way over your head you literally just quoted dude from an episode of the Monday night wars BUT anyway Bret lied Vince lied about the contract thing to save face if you actually did some digging you would probably find out that Bret turned down the 20 year deal cus it was around 10 mill less than what "he deserved" vice ain't dumb well sometimes he would of signed that first title loss Bret would of jumped to WCW regardless for more money and a way shorter contact just like Tony , Eric Bischoff likes spending someone else's money on bullshit shock value content that never lasts
@@despicablemonster No you fucking idiot. Read the damn Observer or listen to any interview of anyone who was there
Be cool as long as it was a good match n they had a 3rd match to where hbk got the belt back. glad it didnt happen tho, n bret n austin happened. While i like hbk better the hart n austin match made austin in my opinion n won the Monday nite wars
To me Bret heart was not the best owen was when he was alive
Anthony G and that’s why Bret was 5 times WWF champion bs Owen who was not once....#fact
J Crash yep.. as real as Bret knocking out Vince McMahon.....#notsosadperson
J Crash nope....HBK was clearly a work in ‘95 but who cares about that, besides you, in comparison to Vince in ‘97.....Vince walking out groggy from the dressing room AND he couldn’t walk right because Jerry Brisco fell on top of McMahon’s ankle....the last think Vince wants is to look weak, that’s why he wanted to buy the rights to wrestling with shadows, which he could not....you will never be able to disprove Bret knocking out Vince...
J Crash that’s your best response? Calling me dumbass?!? Yep Bret winning all his titles was scripted but Bret knocking out Vince was not.....Like, I said, you can’t change my mind by your childish digs....
Sounds so bitter and twisted
Best there is, best there was, best there ever will be.....except for Taker and Shawn obviously
stfu
Bret is one of my favorites, but LOL at that idiotic idea for the finish of wm 13 vs hbk
