I spent some time in 1961/62 in lynton and lynmouth. Uncle Bill worked for the electric construction company and was installing the generator at Lynton. I was with mum who was keeping Aunty Connie company (mum and dads friends not a real aunty). We stayed in a caravan at a site in the valley of the rocks no planning issues then. I remember Bill tickling trout at waters meet then they had to be quickly cooked and eaten to get rid of the evidence.
There are many gas turbine "peaking" generators around the UK and elsewhere, they are not cheap to run in comparison to regular power stations so they are only used when necessary.

These should be dotted all over the UK, could be made to run on hydrogen gas.

There is one fully working unit at the Internal Fire Museum of Power at Castell Pridd in Tanygroes, Wales. I don't know of any other preserved units.
