For me apprenticeship is the way to go. Im from Germany and I make my A-level right now which is usually what people who want to study aim for. People who make apprenticeships usually have a lower valued graduation, so with an A-Level the companies I will apply for apprenticeship will accept me 99%. While all my friends will go to universaty and look how they can find a part time job and study at the same time, I will have a secure wage by my employer with no worries about the bills. I will probably finish my apprenticeship after 3,4 years and start working for normal wage. By the time my friends finish their universaty degree after like 6 years I will have already made a lot of money. And because there are so many people with degrees in our times, a degree is valued a lot less. 50 years ago a degree was sth special and was always guaranteed to be top paid. Now it is different and with a good apprenticeship I make more or the same amount of money than sb with a degree. In my opinion only the really gold subjects like Medicine/Maths/Engineering/IT/law are worth studying because they will reward you but the other 90% are not worth studying.

Getting young people to look at apprenticeships is great because there is so much out there than just university education and debt. If someone knows what they want to do, I say sprint in that direction and dont look back!
However, a lot of people don't know what they want to do with their life. If someone is unsure about what they want to do, I personally dislike the apprenticeship option. University education teaches you to think, to be smarter in the decisions that you make. This can improve all aspects of your life professionally, socially and personally. I say 'life skills' obtained in an apprenticeship can follow later if someone is unsure about what path they want to go in. Young people need to cement a solid educational foundation before they grow professionally. This will provide the best chances to succeed. HOWEVER this is not the best route for everyone, most of the very wealthiest people in the world do not have degrees...

Wogierp No if people still do not k o what the fuck they want to do, then you just financially fucked them in the ass with debt the smarter choice is trades.

I'm 18 just finished my A levels and I considered both UNI and Apprenticeships, and opted for a higher apprenticeship. I got 2 offers, from BAE systems and National Grid. Both companies pay for all the learning you will do and offer a starting wage of over £21,500 which is over £11.16 an hour. This is available to students coming straight out of college or sixth form. Of the two offers I choose National Grid I start my course next MONDAY. Btw BAE Systems' course sponsors a full UNI degree completely paid for not a foundation degree its the whole thing... and National Grid offers a company car
In summary you can not compare a uni courses to top higher apprenticeship courses like those two, its not a fair comparison, most comparisons you will see use advanced apprenticeships that are around the £5.60 per hour mark, there is a difference.

+XiLeFFeLiX Hi, if you dont mind me asking, how is the Apprenticeship going now? Im currently in Year 12 and would honestly rather do an Apprenticeship but I feel like if I get really good grades it would be a wasted opportunity to not go University (at the same time I really dont like studying at all, I love working in part time jobs due to the fact im getting paid to do something while I somewhat enjoy it).
How many years does a Higher Apprenticeship go on for?

+RetroPlaya786 Its a good time to be thinking about it mate. ok so my course is going really good so far, im with National Grid. I got an A* in yr 10 for maths and A* for design tech gcse. took maths, further maths, design tech and physics for A level and did decent. I thought the same as you wouldn't I be waisting my intelligence if i don't go to uni. Well i do NOT regret it one bit. im 18 driving around in a free 65plate £16k car that i don't have to pay for nor even feul or insurance. I earn just over £450 every week and im garunteed a job at the end of my 3 yr course. which shoots the pay up even further. whilst the guys that went to uni in the same time have collected a whole load of debt and no garunteed of a job. in 2 yrs im planning on putting down a deposit for a house with the money ive saved. So it was a no brainer to me. oh you also wont miss out on night life believe me

That sounds sweet! I read that you took a Higher Apprenticeship? Is that the type of Apprenticeship I should be aiming for if I were to finish Sixth Form? I'm currently taking Maths with Stats, Politics, Business and Law and im hoping for at least minimum B for results. I did decent at GCSEs, (1A*, 4As, 4Bs and an E). The only problem I have when trying to look for Apprenticeships is finding one that somewhat fits into those area of subject im taking at A-Level. Do you have any recommendations of sites I should be looking at regularly to keep an eye out on Apprenticeships (if im fully settled on going for one), especially during my second year?
The Careers advisors at my College seemed suprised that I said I would prefer to go onto an Apprenticeship instead of Uni and definetly felt like they were pushing me to that route after looking at my grades.
      Thanks for that quick reply!

+RetroPlaya786 Haha they were like that at my school it makes there statistics look better the more they get to uni. But now theyre are apparently mentioning me a fair amount as someone who did very well i am mentioned in the same sentence as people that went to Oxford and Cambridge. yes definitely only settle for a higher apprenticeship because you can do advanced ones straight out of yr 11 its like you would've waisted a whole year in yr 12. They are not easy to get so apply to many of them and for search tools there isn't a set website I just regularly looked for names of companies that looked good and then went onto their website to look and see if they took on higher apprentices.

Thanks for the info! Definitely cleared up some doubts.
Now I just need to find a good company that offers Higher Apprenticeships and hope they will still do so in two years while I search for some Unis I *might* be interested in going.

I think apprenticeships is not for everyone including myself because I will be doing computer science and I will have to go to Uni to get a solid foundation about it... sucks but I think it's true :p

I would say do ur A levels in 3 easy subjects nothing too difficult like maths , and then after that u can get into a degree apprenticeship and even if u don't end up finishing ur apprenticeship at least u would still have the A levels to fall back on .
